In college I managed a small convenience store (The Den @Engorgeous George). Over the Thanksgiving Holiday there were only 3 people who were in town, me and two other guys. Me and one of the other guys show up on Friday, third guy isn't there doesn't call nothing and he lives within 100 feet of the front door. Saturday, same thing, I'm ticked and call late in the day, get the answering machine and leave a message "If you aren't dead and don't show up tomorrow, find another job". Sunday, people are filtering back into town but he still hasn't show up to work. Around 3PM, we see an ambulance and fire truck outside his apartment building. Wasn't but a few minutes later, a cop comes in to tell us his roommate found him and that he had died. He'd gotten a hold of a tank of nitrous oxide, was filling up plastic bags, sticking his head in them and suffocated. Always felt bad about leaving that message.
