What? He's asking fellow geeks how to make his dog more comfortable while they travel. Maybe he doesn't want to leave his dog in the hands of strangers he doesn't trust. Maybe his dog, however uncomfortable she may be traveling, is less uncomfortable traveling than being left behind with strangers. I think you're out of line here. He knows what's best for his dog. Clearly, he thinks bringing the dog with them is the best choice. Maybe the dog is attached to his daughter and he wants to reunite them as a surprise. Maybe he doesn't want to be apart from his dog that long. If he didn't care about the dog, he'd just leave it in the backyard and ask a neighbor to maybe stop by and throw some food and water at it every couple of days.

Have you looked into boarding her locally? My folks take their dog everywhere but when it doesn't make sense, like a long trip, they board her. Granted, they know and trust the place and only do it if they have to but it's an alternative. Might be better than keeping her in a car, depending on how hot it will be in May where you're heading.
