I prefer the SPY, RUT and other well known indexes. As you even stated, your goal is to beat the indexes. I say the goal is to beat the s&p and that’s the index to be in if your in growth mode.

Born, raised and live in central PA. -
They are unmanaged indexes and Fidelity hopes their subpar performance makes clients move to the more costly managed funds. Advisors sell them because they can charge a fractionally higher “fee” since the underlying index doesn’t have one. Or it can be used in a competitive situation where cost over performance is a client’s priority. See above, it’s all about cost not return.
