Domestic Muslim Terrorists try to blow up Fox 13 Utah truck
TheNewGirl replied to jerryskids's topic in The Geek Club
Because I don't know enough about their culture to claim that "it's fine." I am not Catholic, and my experience that I have had has been just "events." I have read plenty about corruption within the church, pedophilia, money laundering, among other things. Should I judge that experience and say that the culture is "fine?" My basic point is that you can't claim a culture "is fine" when all you've done is go to events at their places of worship; you know nothing about their culture by just doing that. Would you say that Satanist culture "is fine?" If it's not fine, what exactly do you know about it? -

Do you ever go to a mosque for a non-special event? One or two visits for "events" is hardly being a part of their culture and understanding it. Fasting until 6pm everyday during Ramadan to show support does not a Muslim make. I don't go to a wedding at a Catholic Church and then claim that their culture "is fine." -
What's with all the conservatives cancelling people?

I have to agree. -
I just spent some time reading about Groypers, sounds like a very scary group, IMO.

I take issue with health care workers and educators who wish death or cheer the death of someone. If I go into the hospital with a critical injury and they find out who I voted for, are they going to refuse me treatment? "They supported Trump, sorry no life saving treatment for you." If my son is in your class and you find out that his family supports a specific candidate; will my son be treated differently? "His dad is a Trump supporter; fail him on every test." That's what those posts and vibes give off in my opinion. If you feel the need to shout it from the rooftops that you're glad Charlie is dead, don't do it on your social media account, IMO. You're still a reflection of that career choice or company that you work for. -
I have never heard of this group. What a terrible name, tho.

I have certain activities where I reach flow state; one of them is writing. It started happening in junior high but then progressed as I went into high school, and then more in college. I would just get into this state and write for hours. If I had a paper due, I could whip it out seamlessly, plug it into the online proof reader/plagarism tool and be done. Even now, when I write short stories or novellas, it just kind of....happens. Before I know it hours have passed and I feel amazing. Not tired, not emotionally drained or anything. I love being in that state. Wish I could bottle it. -
Might be a moon landing, but I read that he threatened to kill himself after his father confronted him. Father recognized him from the FBI photos and videos. Then father convinced him to meet with the youth minister, who doubles as a US Marshall Fugitive Task Force officer. Oof. I am sure that the two of them together really made sure to talk to this kid before turning him in.

Also, he's 22. Forget to change his voter registration? Maybe. It's more likely that he's 22 and just didn't give a shiiite what the paper said. He's a 22 year old dude playing video games. And, what you're registered as really doesn't matter. When the ballot and polls are here, you just go vote for whomever you want.

How are any of us to know what his parents (or any other shooters parents, for that matter) did or didn't do? Maybe his dad didn't hug him enough.

It's actually also very pre WW2 Germany.

100%. And it's not about "taking the guns away." IMO.

It starts at home. Very young.

You're either for current party or against it. There's no other way to vote.

If you watch toddlers with little verbal ability react to situations, you can see how and why we become stunted by the lack of actual social interaction. Toddler doesn't get his way? He hits. He screams. He bites. He throws things. Without proper emotional development, this toddler grows in to a person who has no idea what to do with how he feels. It just amplifies. There are SO many having mental health crises, it doesn't always end in shootings or whatever. But it's because they just don't have the emotional where with all, and sometimes the support around them to try and help them understand.

Guns are a problem, but not THE problem. The issue is emotional intelligence and the ability to react appropriately. Lots of people with borderline personality disorders and other types of mental issues that deal with emotions. What exactly is "gun culture?"

There are so many layers to this, I had a huge response typed out but I really don't want the backlash. Our young mens brains (or just young people in general) are just being screwed up from the age of 2 and older. Give 'em an iPad. Don't teach them what it feels like to lose a game, or get bullied. They have a complete lack of emotional intelligence. You can't figure out how to discuss or debate? Call them names. That doesn't work? Beat them up, or go destroy something, that will make you feel better. That doesn't work? Go kill someone just because. Go make a name for yourself, etc. It ALL starts with young brain development and emotional intelligence. Add feminism, social media, health care and lack of other resources and there are a lot of people out there who just do NOT think about their actions and consequences.

Ok, I see where you're coming from.

This could be true, however, the left is more likely to down-play the violence from their side. This has been show in media.

If you need it to be categorized, more philosophical. Is there science around good vs evil?
-
Thank you for this response. I think in your example, murder for money shows that there is mental illness, and that's probably where the slippery slope is. Murder - the ability to kill another human being without caring about the consequences TO ME means that there is something seriously wrong with you. For recent events sake, let's say that the the Kirk shooter isn't mentally ill. Never shown any signs of mental illness, got good grades, had a good paying job, contributed, and let's for the sake of argument say he had a family of his own. One day he just decides he's going to kill this guy. Is he only evil? Or is the fact that he had the ability somewhere in him to plan, pull the trigger, and run NOT a sign that maybe he really isn't mentally well?

What makes the evil person evil? What makes a good person good?
