Thank you for this response. I think in your example, murder for money shows that there is mental illness, and that's probably where the slippery slope is. Murder - the ability to kill another human being without caring about the consequences TO ME means that there is something seriously wrong with you. For recent events sake, let's say that the the Kirk shooter isn't mentally ill. Never shown any signs of mental illness, got good grades, had a good paying job, contributed, and let's for the sake of argument say he had a family of his own. One day he just decides he's going to kill this guy. Is he only evil? Or is the fact that he had the ability somewhere in him to plan, pull the trigger, and run NOT a sign that maybe he really isn't mentally well?

What makes the evil person evil? What makes a good person good?

But even in the definition of evil, psychopathy (mental illness) is mentioned. Lack of empathy is present in several mental illness symptoms.

That's why I am curious. Mental illness doesn't need to exist WITH evil; plenty of people have a mental illness (depression, anxiety, BPD, bi-polar), but where does the evil come from?

How so? I mean, it's possible to be mentally ill without evil, and it's possible to be evil without mental illness. I am willing to learn more about this. In the case of murdering someone for money, that seems mentally ill and evil to me. But, if we are talking about someone who is mentally ill and say...self harms like cuts themselves or goes into fits or something, they aren't evil. What's an example of evil without mental illness?

Both. Anyone that thinks it's' okay to kill another for some kind of gain is mentally ill...and evil. Would it be nice to have a million dollars? Sure. Would I kill my husband or even someone else for it? No. Because I am not mentally ill and/or evil.

Are mentally ill people more likely to be blithering idiots that just lay there and wait to be caught? Or they cannot figure out how to load, aim, and fire? Meh, not the same, IMO. Markos changed political parties after a time; and did so during the time he was in the military. He also calls himself a recovering Catholic. Bernie has always been an "independent" however, I think he's a democrat. Changing ones political view point or party is not the same as talking about how men and women feel about sexual experiences and advances. They actually have ZERO things in common. I've changed my political party as well a few times; but I will still never say that as any point have I thought about getting railed by four different dudes is a fantasy of mine - never has been in all my sexually active years. I don't even like smut books about reverse harems or anything like that. So this is really not the same, but thanks. ETA: Sexual drive is actually really hard to change; as well as "what we are attracted to." Without getting into that can of worms it's something that's developed VERY young in our 'lizard' brains. Read up on brain development and sexuality, sexual preference, etc. Do you think Jeffrey Dahmer just woke up one day and decided to kill and eat young men?
