I remember during my college psych days that pedophilia, child sexual abuse, etc is one of the mental illness issues (if you want to refer to it as that) that's nearly impossible to get therapy or rehab for. Nearly all of them reoffend, or never really get past being "minor attracted persons." That's why it's probably the one offense I believe they need to be locked up for life for. Castration, chemical castration, or other medical/medicinal therapies don't work; it's in the brain. I think it would be very difficult to be a MAP and NOT assault a child; I mean....what's a MAP if you don't sexually desire a child? Gross.

IMO, they learned more about it and expanded the criteria for diagnosis to include more individuals. It's also a spectrum, so there are varying degrees. I've met a LOT of those on spectrum and they seem just like normal people, then I've met others who clearly have a disability.
