I think it's funny that people keep referring to Republicans going the route of the Handmaid's Tale. When Biden literally referred to women as "menstruators" in his "Menstrual Health at Work" advice. The word woman was mentioned once. You know, to be "inclusive." https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2024/may/30/menstruators-joe-bidens-administrations-workplace-/#:~:text='Menstruators'%3A Biden's administration's workplace, menstruation doesn't mention women&text=First there were “birthing people,to the gender-identity movement. So, the Republicans will refer to us as Breeders and the Dems refer to us as Birthing People or Menstuators (which isn't even a real word). Fock I love being a woman right now. If you ask me, no one is focking paying attention.

Restaurant chain shuts down nearly 50 locations in California following minimum wage hike
TheNewGirl replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in The Geek Club
I imagine the bankruptcy was possibly due to Covid and the Trump era closures or whatever you want to refer to them as. They filed for Chapter 11 twice in four years. They filed once in 2020 after closing about 12 stores due to pandemic, and then again just a few weeks ago after closing up to 50% of their stores; stating that it was due to an increase in wages (25% increase in wages for them). So you can blame it both on Trump/pandemic policies and minimum wage increases. Both appear to be true as there were two Chapter 11 filings. WALLAH. -
I hate cigars. I hate them so much, I think they are just so freaking disgusting.

This is what I think happened as well. They were already in trouble and then adding the wage hike just made it worse. Which, given the fallout from Covid and other restaurants and businesses, kind of makes sense. -

Perhaps at the time they got their loans and credit they could, but with the slow increase in prices and loss of jobs, now they can't. Banks don't lend like they used to in terms of 100% mortgages, or ARMs and things like that. They are still out there, but not like they were in the early 00s. There are more rules and regulations now to try and prevent what happened before -

Not where I am. I have family that's had property for sale for years, and it's still out there for sale. And I do mean YEARS. Maybe it's just too $$ or not the right location. It is more rural, but you'd think a lot of folks would want to move to more rural places. Anyways, a while ago, I had an acquaintance who had some issues with her Big Bank, too many fees, she was overdrawn and they charged her, etc. So, she posted on social media that she wished that this bank would "fail." This is the THIRD largest bank in the US. I asked her if she realized what it would mean if that bank actually DID fail and what she was asking for. Of course, she just thought it would mean that they'd "no longer do business and couldn't screw their customers." Unfortunately, this is what most people think when they talk about the Big Banks going under, they don't realize what it means. But I digress. I work in banking, I could have told you that the writing is on the wall months ago. My husband works in the car industry (no he's not a sales man), and he could tell you the same thing among banks/lenders, manufactures, dealerships, and auctions. People can't afford things. -

I am not disagreeing with you or anything else in the thread, just bummed that something other than a drive thru is gone. I am not a fan of food trucks; despite people saying they are good or whatever. I am not a fan of wondering if I am going to get food poisoning from what I had for lunch. I refer to them as "roach coaches" for a reason. -

Yup. What do folks think happens when people can't pay credit debt or mortgages? Banks make their money off of the interest on this stuff. If people aren't paying....welp....people will almost always choose to feed their families over paying a credit card, car loan, or mortgage. And when food is still expensive and people can't find decent jobs... But the economy is fine. -

I liked Rubios. They weren't terrible, but probably your slightly above average fast food chain. We had two near us, and we live in a more affluent suburb of a larger city/county, so I am not surprised. One was located in a shopping center where the rents are known to be astronomical; they've had other restaurants close there recently, too. -

I am more upset about the Rubio's closing around here. They made good fish tacos. -

I imagine a lot of people will feel as if the country is in distress if he wins; so yes, please fly it upside down if that's your feeling as well. It's a lot better than looting and destroying cities as I imagine some on your side will do. I'd rather them fly their butt hurt flag than go out and destroy peoples businesses and lives. -

I am not sure if I'd qualify this as "being in their feelings." But if you'd like to say it is, then cool. If quietly flying a flag upside down at your house is being in your "feelings" vs disrupting a city parade, or rioting is what we are comparing, then give me the upside down flag feelings any day. -

This is correct, the proper way to retire the American flag is to burn it. -

Perhaps some feel as if they are in distress. Who am I to judge? -
Same goes. If you let your personality change to where you're a "mean person" for 4 to 8 years because of who the President is? That's still a mental illness/personality disorder. You're literally saying that your character changes depending on who the President of the United States is. That's cuckoo.

Flying the flag is not disrespectful, it's a sign of distress. According to United States Flag Code, a legally non-enforceable set of guidelines that establish rules for display and care of the country's flags, flags are not to be flown upside-down except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property. -
I am sorry, but I think it's sad if anyone lets the POTUS change their character and who they are as a person. I mean, if you go through that much of a personality change every four years, that sounds a wee bit psychotic, IMO. "I didn't USED to be a serial killer, but then that ONE GUY was President for four years and WHOA-NELLY!!!! I had to kill 21 young men and bury them in the crawl space under mah house!" Yeah, that's sane.
