It's the "exit" tax, being proposed. This proposed “Exit Tax” is part of the California wealth tax proposal wherein new rules are established for those individuals or businesses with over $30 million in assets for a tax year.

Hmm, this is an interesting new user; seems eerily similar to someone from the old days. -
Ex-NHL player Adam Johnson dies after reportedly suffering neck injury during game
TheNewGirl replied to kilroy69's topic in The Geek Club
I would think so. At first I thought maybe it was someone who had it out for Adam and told the dude to kick him, but that doesn't make a lot of sense. I watched the video, and the guy KICKS him. It's not an accident, IMO. -

Kind of like the women who walk home late at night after clubbing, right? -

SHEFFIELD, UK — Police in England arrested a man Tuesday in connection to the death of Adam Johnson, a former University of Minnesota-Duluth men's hockey player and Hibbing native, who died after getting his neck cut from a skate during a hockey game in England. The South York Police Department said the man was arrested on "suspicion of manslaughter." -

It's posts like these that just make me think of the "NOT ALL MEN!!!!" comments that dudes make when it comes to objectifying women. Not ALL men...but MOST men. -
Perhaps it's not "funny" because there is likely an element of truth to it.

San Francisco: People are pooping more than ever on the streets...
TheNewGirl replied to posty's topic in The Geek Club
I am surprised that you were in those areas and didn't see the homeless issue, regardless of it being a touristy area. Many of the larger stores have pulled out of Union Square due to activity of homeless, crime, drugs, etc. Chinatown is frightening, has been for a while, and Pier 39 is just meh at this point. Tourism doesn't necessarily mean people keep things cleaner. I dunno. I don't think you're being entirely truthful about what you've seen in those areas, given my experiences there as well. But whatever. We see what we want to see. -

YAY! https://babylonbee.com/news/newsom-assures-homeless-they-can-resume-pooping-on-streets-once-his-boss-leaves?utm_source=The Babylon Bee Newsletter&utm_medium=email "Please, we need to try and keep the place clean just for a few days while my boss is here," said Newsom in a press conference surrounded by a horde of angry homeless people. "Please don't mess it up for me and President Xi. I really want to impress him. Please hold it in for a couple of days. Just clench or something. After that, you may poop to your heart's content. Thank you." "Please," he added. "If I play my cards right, Xi may even let me become President. This is huge for me."

Was talking about this with a friend recently. The last four years have really taken their toll. Aside from Covid, my son graduated in 2020 which was a "drive thru" graduation and I really don't think he's been the same since either. My mom has had serious health issues (strokes, Parkinsons, etc). and watching my dad go through her basically dying has been much tougher. I was hospitalized twice (2020 and 2022), due to surgeries that didn't go as planned. It's just been one hard hitting thing after another it seems and getting closer to 50 is kind of like...where did the focking time go?! I think out of ALL of this, being my kid grow is one thing (21 and 18 now), seeing my parents enter their last decades of their lives is a whole other thing. its something that doesn't really cross your mind much as a child, or even into our 30s. Anyways, YAY! Hahahahah

Interesting turn this thread took! Need to clarify - I don't have blue eyes. Sux comment "5 foot 2 and eyes of blue." No, they are like a hazel/green/brown. My breast-age. Used to be a 32F but had a reduction in summer of 2022 due to shoulder and back pain, etc. So, apologies to the GC. Bunny, please be careful mixing booze and meds. It isn't shameful to reach out for help if you need it.

I think he started on My so Called Life in the 90s, but I never really caught onto that show. I remember seeing him for the first time in How to Make an American Quilt and I thought he was extremely good looking. His band is pretty good, but I see him doing a lot of the "let me do this whacky shiiit and wear these whacky clothes" to try and get attention. He's very talented, for sure. Never saw him in Suicide Squad tho. I don't like the make up in that movie, the silver teeth and all of that isn't my mental picture of the Joker, and I find Harley Quinn extremely annoying. But I am sure he was a good Joker.

So to the bolded. I do think that some environmental policies are good. Consequences will happen and perhaps job opportunities. However. CA already struggles with its power grid. We have blackouts, brown outs, rolling black outs ever single summer. Some people have to get generators (but now they can't be gas powered - which if you have no electricity, then WTF? And solar? We ALL know that solar doesn't produce NEAR as much power as other options, but I digress). My in laws have a ranch/farm. The amount of food that was wasted during a random black out a few summers ago is just astounding. And the cost of buying a generator that CA approves of is just NUTS, it literally gives people ZERO choice on what they can do to stay afloat. And now they also want to take away gas stoves and other gas related household appliances. Electric vehicles get their own lane on the highways, and sure you can maybe find a charging station, but you can't go more than 300 miles...and if your charging station is solar, then you charge the car and drive at night? There are just too many "what ifs" that I think SOUND good, but the infrastructure and feasibility is just way too expensive to implement without jacking up taxes and gas prices. let's just say a state like Iowa suddenly decides to go green, how will farmers stay in business if they have to go solar, can't use gas powered equipment? They have yet to really build a cost-sound solar/green tractor that has a great ROI for a farmer. If they use gas powered, taxes will be jacked up so much that now gas is twice as much per gallon. Those costs will again be passed onto us; making our food even more expensive. It just doesn't make sense to pass these laws to save the ENTIRE planet, when other countries (like China) get to actually build MORE coal mines and facilities. I do believe in the environment and doing what we can to save and help it. But I think the ROI and expense is just TOO much for our society to handle. There are very few who can afford an electric car. And when that car battery dies, you have to get a whole new car. And the batteries are just thrown into the ocean or some ditch somewhere for the future to deal with. And Gavin an't that environmentally savvy when the state burns down every month and creates air that literally NO one can breathe. He's not that much into the environment. ETA: I actually think that if people want to see what the world will look like when the environmental or dem policies are put in to law, just look at CA. Sure people say that we are the 5th largest economy in the world. BUT...our homeless is out of control. Crime is horrid. And less than 30% of CA residents can actually afford to buy a home - and most are being priced out of their rentals. And it just keeps getting more expensive.
