    Morency or Jackson?

There's a difference between 'no concern' and where I'm at. This doesn't appear to be something that will linger. And frankly, Jackson hasn't exactly been lighting up training camp proving that he's deserving of a starting spot. They have seen Morency in the system. They know what they have. Whether or not he plays in the preseason is irrelevant in this case. When they go live for the open, my money's on Morency starting.

    Morency or Jackson?

Yeah, well, yeah. I think Morency is getting overlooked by a lot of people. Looks to be a strained tendon, not tendinitis. http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/sports/ind...381&ntpid=3 In any case, don't overlook Morency. That's all I'm saying.

    Morency or Jackson?

Wrong, wrong, wrong. They have more than enough defense to prevent the need for throwing. They have as deep a D line as I've seen in Green Bay in a long time. They have good young linebackers. Not to mention, they have pretty good corners. Safety is the only questionable position. Heck, they're returning just about everyone. And Cullen Jenkins is going to surprised a lot of people this season. As for run blocking. How many teams in the NFL are returning all five starters to the same system this season? My guess is that's a low number. This is a young, talented group. They will be much better than last season. As for the starting back. It's Morency. If this was really an open competition do you think Morency would be sitting out training camp because his knee is sore? Green Bay has said all along that they know what they have in Morency. It's the young guys who need to prove themselves. And, this doesn't help Jackson's case. He been lambasted in blitz pickup drills pretty much all training camp. He will not start if he cannot pass protect. Pretty simple to me.

    Packers RB situation

Not me, but to each his own. I thought Harrel was a fine pick. Turner is just as much of a risk in that trade scenario. And if you know anything about Ted Thompson, he's building the team through the D and O lines. A fine approach, and one that will pay dividends long term. As for the situation at hand. I firmly believe this is Morency's job to lose. He has a year in the system, and the coaching staff has said all along they know what he's capable of. They aren't putting any timeline on his return, and I think that's on purpose. They want to give the rest of the young backs the preseason to establish pecking order. If Morency was really in danger of not being the starter, I think they'd be rushing him back for the competition.

geek club hall of fame criteria

I'm past my prime and steadily declining. But I did have some glorious days here at FFT.
  6. I've been a Packer fan my whole life, but I'm just sick of the way this is going. We have Favre. Rather than just stepping up and telling the media one way or another, Favre plays games and goes back and forth on the whole retirement thing. He's done that two straight seasons. In addition, either he or his mouthpiece (agent) have made demands about who should be on the Packer roster, and have openly questioned Thompson's moves. That's nice of Brett. You can spin it as "show me a quote", but we don't need to see one. It's very convienent for Brett to have his mouthpiece spout off on his behalf, without putting his own ass on the line. He's playing it well. Push your thoughts through the rumor mill, let the press go with it, then step and smooth it over after the fact. Shows you how much power the guy actually has. Hell, didn't someone from his own family spout off on his behalf this offseason? Then we have Ted Thompson. He inherited a team devoid of any talent, and is building it back up his way. Well, that's not fast enough for Packer nation is it? They'd rather see them chase the ghost of Randy Moss or bring in some other washed up veteran. That's not how you build a team. So here's where I'm at. I defended Favre hardcore during Javon Walker's holdout, as questionable as Brett's decisions were at that time. But now, I just can't do it anymore. He hides behind his agent, family, and the press, rather than manning up and going straight to Ted Thompson with his greivances. He knows he has the fans, and is using that to try to force the hand of Thompson. Total bush league crap, in my opinion. So I say again. I'm done with the guy. This is one lifelong Packer fan and former Favre defender who just doesn't want to hear it anymore.

    Brewers!

The Cards do suck. This team is at least one year away. This article pretty much sums up the attitude in Milwaukee right now: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ...cubs/index.html 'A panic zone' Brewers get antsy as Cubs close in on Central lead Posted: Thursday July 26, 2007 1:12PM; Updated: Thursday July 26, 2007 4:05PM Johnny Estrada ambles into the Brewers' clubhouse on a recent afternoon in Milwaukee, takes a brief look around and, with a sigh and a shake of his head, considers right then and there to ... oh, maybe take a pair of needle-nosed pliers and pull out his eyebrows or something. Hair by single hair. On a big-screen TV at one end of the clubhouse, a baseball game is being played. On another massive screen, maybe 20 feet from the first one, is the same game. On a smaller TV above the first one, that same stinking ballgame drones on. Throughout the room, a few Brewers' players, in a classic pregame scene repeated in clubhouses everywhere, are lounging on couches or casually sitting on chairs in front of their lockers. They're all just watching. Just watching that stupid game. Seems like everywhere that the Brewers look these days, the Cubs are right there. "That drives me nuts," says Estrada, the veteran catcher in his first season with the Brewers. "I know people are excited around here. And there's something to be excited about. But we just got to kind of keep plugging along. We can't concern ourselves with the Cubs." Everyone in Milwaukee with a pulse and a layman's knowledge of baseball is aware of the Cubs these days. It's hard not to be. Chicago's lovable but usually laughable Cubs are 31-15 since early June, when they were a decidedly laughable 22-31. Since late June, when they were still seven games below .500, they are 21-7. They are 9-3 since the All-Star break. The Brewers' one-time cushy lead in the National League Central, 8 1/2 games barely a month ago, on June 23, has dwindled to a mere two games, which is as close as anyone's been to them since April 22. Are the Brewers, who haven't managed to make it into a postseason since 1982 -- that's before their first baseman, their second baseman, their third baseman and their shortstop were born -- a little concerned? Well, yeah. Wouldn't you be? "We've been watching. We're in a pennant race," admits Bill Hall, the team's 27-year-old extraordinary jack of all fields, a shortstop last year and a center fielder this one. And then, in nearly the next breath, Hall says, "But we also know we have to go out and do our job whether they win or lose. We can't start watching what other teams are doing yet. It might cause a little bit of panic." Nobody in Milwaukee will admit to full-fledged, flop-sweat panic just yet. The Brewers are still pulling in good and vocal crowds (more than 34,000 fans a game this season, up nearly 6,000 per game from last year). They're still the talk of the town. It's not quite Packers season. Not yet. But the puffed-up confidence that the fans and the team showed earlier in the year clearly has been deflated. Questions about the team's makeup, which first surfaced during a late May slide in which the Brewers lost 13 of 17 games, are growing more urgent. When the Brewers went 2-6 in July, just before the All-Star break, people wondered more. A 7-6 run since the break hasn't calmed the fears. If it's not an all-out sense of paranoia yet in Milwaukee, it sure smells like that storm's gathering. Estrada worries that all the worrying and all the distractions -- including those cursed Cubs games on TV -- will eat away at the Brewers as they head into the toughest part of the season. "It's unbelievable, the mentality here. When I was in Atlanta, they won 14 straight championships. We could lose eight straight and you'd get the same response: 'No big deal,'" says Estrada. "When you're used to winning, it's a different attitude. A different feeling. A different mentality. Here, it's like a panic zone. 8. The fact that Favre has the balls to question Ted Thompson at this point is extremely irritating to me. Favre is not even close to an elite QB, yet he wants Thompson to mortgage the future. Well, I'm damn glad Thompson ain't taking Favre's advice. Favre has called out Thompson several times, and frankly, it's over the line. Anyone else tried to pull this, and they'd be getting a media induced ###### slap. But not our Brett. And whether he admits it or not, I'm pretty sure Mr. Favre did indeed demand to be traded. He can spin it all he likes. I'm just sick of listening to his whining.

    Green Bay Homers...

And Morency hurt already... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/foot...ckers.favre.ap/ MORENCY HURT AGAIN: Running back Vernand Morency didn't practice Sunday because of a knee injury he suffered in the first camp practice Saturday. McCarthy said the status of Morency, listed as a starter on the depth chart, is day-to-day. "I go back to what he's done in the offseason, I'm actually a little surprised that he's had an injury this early," McCarthy said. Durability has come into question with Morency, who's in only his third NFL season. He suffered a lower-back injury against Arizona on Oct. 29 last year and missed the next two games. Morency and rookie Brandon Jackson are the top candidates to replace Ahman Green, who signed with Houston as a free agent. "I'm not concerned," McCarthy said of Morency's latest setback. "We talk about it over and over again -- if it takes one guy to do the job, we'll do it with one guy; if it takes a committee of backs to do it, then we'll do it by committee."
  10. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=639355 Switching places Rookie running back Brandon Jackson found himself in an unfamiliar position during practice - fullback. The Packers' second-round pick is supposed to be competing with Vernand Morency for the starting halfback job, and he is. But McCarthy wants to develop diversity with his running backs and thinks there will be times when he can use two running backs in the same backfield. Thus, Jackson lined up in front of Morency on several plays. "I laughed when they told me to do it," Jackson said. "I was like, 'Hey, whatever it takes, whatever it takes for the team to get better.'" Asked if he had ever played fullback, Jackson said, "Have I? Yes. In middle school." Short yardage Rookie running back DeShawn Wynn was put on the non-football injury list because of illness.

  12. Where there's smoke there is fire. Favre lost me about two years ago. I can't even get excited thinking about him breaking some records this season. If it's so damn terrible Brett, then hang'em up. We're pretty sick of listening to you.

    Koren Robinson

According to the article I'm quoting there, he can apply to be reinstated Sept. 18 of 2007, which is one-year to the date that the NFL decided he should be suspended. That article was written after his appeal was denied, so it appears accurate to me.

    Koren Robinson

Robinson will be back. The only question is, will he make it the whole season without getting arrested. A valid question. I tend to think he makes it at least the rest of this year, which is the remainder of his Green Bay contract anyway I think. After that, who knows.

    Koren Robinson

Not true: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=519830 Robinson can apply for reinstatement on Sept. 18 of 2007, which is one-year to the date that the NFL decided he should be suspended for violation of its substance abuse policy. Now, I don't know how long the application takes to review, but if Robinson does it immediately, it is possible he could be back by game three, September 23 vs. San Diego. And considering the youth at Green Bay's receiver position, and their need for help in the return game, I definitely think Robinson has value here. I say take a late flier and see what happens.

David Beckham could do a lot better than Posh Spice

Really? I watched that show for about ten minutes and could not stand her. I realize most 'reality' shows are scripted, but she appeared the fakest of all. I just couldn't get past how much acting she was doing. Pretty terrible show.

I'm not sure I'm following that quote exactly. And maybe I'm just ignorant. But doesn't that say "global economy." Are you now telling me that globalization and the 'flattening' of the world is due to GWB?

    Anyone read...?

Oh. If you click on my username "hoffdaddy", you have an option to send an email. I sent one to you, let me know if you got it. It should come to the address you used to register on this site. A podcast is simply an audio recording stored on the Internet. It got its name because it is often downloaded to an ipod to listen. However, to be very clear, you do not need an Ipod. The name is misleading. If you have Windows Media Player, you can download and play the file with Windows Media Player (or any other player such as Real Media, or QuickTime). It's kind of a radio style show, without being on the radio.

    Anyone read...?

Not only did I read it, I co-hosted a podcast in which Randy Giminez was a regularly appearing guest. I'm not going to promote it on Mike's site, but if you're interested in hearing where the podcast is at, send me a message through the site. All in all, a great read. It really makes you re-think the way you play fantasy football. Obviously, you can't apply every piece of advice to every circumstance. And you do have to mix in your own judgement. But, both myself an my cohost applied some of his principles and both of us were very impressed with his strategies. Plus, he's just a really good guy. Very interesting to talk to. I give the book
