    Minimum wage

Moreso than the minimum wage folks, I thought the "pay your fair share" crowd would love the tariffs. Keep in mind that it's the government collecting the funds.
  2. You do realize that the time value decay of those type funds means even if you go a week at Dow flat or even slightly negative, you're going to be way behind? Those are geared for intraday and 2-3 day trades mostly. In short, whether bull or bear, they won't deliver 3x results short or long over time, but much less. The costs of the daily resets are quite high.
  3. Surely everyone realizes all these takes are already known and baked in to the market. If someone wants to make some trades on this and post scans of their trade confirmations that takes some balls, but otherwise I suspect everyone here is rocking on as we always have been and it's just political posturing to support our political views. I've said it before, if someone is just sure in their mind we are headed for a cliff, that's a hard way to sleep at night and should adjust their position now. I wouldn't advise it, but people do it.
  4. It's a circular firing squad that is inevitable. Once you hire someone like Reid, Maddow, Olbermann, you are going to be some kind of "-ist" when you let them go. They pander to that kind of thing so of course in the case of Reid you have the likes of Maddow and Olbermann suggesting or outright saying that the very company that employed them for years and let them spew that nonsense is now racist against Reid. If it were Maddow it would be homophobic or that and that she's a woman. Meanwhile, people are let go every day around the country when their unit isn't performing well. If Joy Reid were making MSNBC money, she would still be there.
  5. I was on a plane with Angelina Jolie from LA to Dallas maybe 20+ years ago. I wasn't all that impressed. I did almost get trampled by people chasing her down the DFW concourse. To be truthful, I didn't even know who she was though. Someone had to tell me. Odds are I couldn't pick out anyone from your list if I passed them on the street, not just because they are on the left, I just don't really follow or recognize movie/music people.
  6. Funny he brings up Katy Tur his former girlfriend. He's a bitter and mentally unstable man.

    Think Biden might have won?

I think he would have lost by more in terms of popular vote. Not sure on the electoral college. It’s possible Trump could have flipped Minnesota, Virginia, New Hampshire, or New Mexico or some combination of those had Biden been the nominee. I think with the immigration crisis any Democrat was going to have trouble winning but once they essentially decided a real primary wasn’t happening, that effectively ended any real chance.
  8. Joy Reid will be fine. There's a market for race baiters and she's an expert in the field.

    New Geeks

The General has been around under that same handle for about as long as I can remember. We don’t agree on a lot of things politically but as far as I know he’s not an alias of anyone.

At the very least the penny and nickel should become obsolete. If paying in cash, just round it up.

Our post office in my zip has had numerous investigations due to checks being removed from envelopes, "washed", and then fraudulently deposited after the theft. We've had local employees arrested on more than one occasion. We get mail that is delayed weeks, in a few occasions months. Everyone here knows using our post office has its risks. This isn't a rural area, likely one of the more affluent zips in the state. Yet they've had to move the dropboxes inside the building because of the outdoor boxes constantly being broken into in order to get their hands on checks and identifying documents. Perhaps it can be fixed by reform, but in the modern world and with the mess that the government is it's much more likely to be run better by a private company. The mail itself is going the way of the old big box stores though thanks to technology and the internet.

Not to throw water on a hyperbolic tweet, but who would want to buy Medicaid? This isn't even rational

    Mass Deportation

Well I'd ask which is it then. He is either doing bad things in the view from the left, by deporting more illegal immigrants than Biden, or he's deporting fewer and therefore is in their argument a fraud. There is no coherent argument to make in tandem because to claim both can't be reality. In my opinion the numbers say that the truth is that he has deported less per day than Biden so far, but has significantly curtailed illegal entries to a trickle, therefore reducing the numbers of deportations needed to reduce the net numbers of illegal immigrants in the country. I'd also further say if one wants to make it about race, he's actually focusing on the criminal element rather than random selections to this point. That would tell me it isn't at all about race but trying to eliminate the violent elements. The argument that innocents are getting swept up in these raids are largely people who are living in the same households with these folks, so it's a necessary situation. That's not to say ICE won't expand these operations in the future, but the numbers now are what they are.

    Mass Deportation

This thread is schizophrenic. Depending on the moment, Trump is either deporting fewer people than Biden or his deportations are an example of how he's the most racist and unfit President in our history.

We actually had an old :e: roto league one year I played in. I think it was $100 entry.

I miss the old live draft days as well. I used to be in an auction league with 7 keepers. Auction day was always the best. Whoever won the league the prior year bought the pizza and drinks and made an afternoon of it.

You need daily lineups to stop the two start pitcher stuff. If it’s points based and not roto just have a 6 or 7 start limit from the SP. Players take so many off days in the modern era it’s hard to navigate fantasy baseball without daily lineups.

How would you spend your $5k DOGE dividends?

Unless I'm understanding what is happening incorrectly, aren't a lot of these items being identified already paid for? So we can cut the funding, save it going forward, but short of some appropriations that are left over what would we get back? We are so woefully in the hole I think the better use is to cut the deficit going forward and continue to work toward reducing more costs.
  19. You have to do what you think is right. If you honestly believe that, you should pull money off the table. It's not like you're selling at a discount right now if you did, the market is still running near all time highs. It's been my experience that the hardest thing to do is hold strong and put more money to work when things look bleak. But my worst feelings about markets were never from a political leaning or even a particular policy outlook, it was about the day to day drubbing the market administered. I mean to be honest, I felt like Covid would hurt the housing market and my rentals but I got an opportunity in 2021 to buy a house that I just felt like I had to take. I figured I'd get under water awhile but end up fine based on the economics, location, etc. That thing hasn't been behind a day since I closed on it. When it comes to stocks, there have only been a couple times I remember in my lifetime it got really that kind of feeling and I'm 50. In 2008 it seemed like we were going down every day. The SP500 lost 38.49% that year. I had just gotten married, buying a larger house. The housing crisis was going on, my wife and I both had homes to sell. In hindsight, the right move would have been to not sell depressed assets but keep those as rentals. It's easy to say now when I'm established and have the funds but those times caused me to raise cash and play it more safe and I regret that. You don't get do overs in the financial world and I learned a lesson. In 2020 during Covid I didn't see the V shaped market recovery some did. While I held strong, I didn't put the capital to work I should have to take full advantage. So definitely not a poor performance, but when panic hits the market, assets get cheap and I didn't buy what I should have in volume. Again, did well investing and holding, but the "safe" money I had on the sideline I was waiting to deploy more and waited too long. I kept waiting for that lower price the next day and eventually those days quit coming. Those two markets were uniquely bad. It would take a prolonged period of economic pain to cause anything similar now. I can't say there won't be another, but you may only see 2-3 markets like that in a lifetime that present both those kinds of challenges and therefore opportunities. If December 31, 2040 the SP 500 is going to end up at the same point regardless, we are better off with dips to buy cheaper along the way. Kind of my point and belief is I didn't like a lot of Biden's policies anymore than you like Trump's. But I think to see anything like either of those conditions I outlined it's going to take a global event, something on a much larger scale. To trade on domestic policy short term is dangerous sledding.
  20. We are down 0.63% on the S&P today. If this causes you to clinch your buttocks you don't belong in the market. The bank down the road has a nice CD you can buy and sleep at night.

    Fantasy Baseball

It's changed for me over the years. I used to get an advantage by running all kinds of spreadsheets for my drafts. But now so much is readily available online and customizable for whatever your scoring is, daily management is the only way to try and gain an advantage. Back when I first started, leagues were only Friday-Sunday and you set one lineup. Then it got to weekly lineups. But later on with online management options the daily lineup leagues now are the norm. It just requires a lot more management than the old set it and forget it days where if you were strong enough at the draft, you could almost win your league outright, or at least have the top scoring team locked up from the rip.

Nose Rings and Tatts Yea or Nay?

Not for my taste on either. I could be fine with a tattoo I guess depending on size and where. But honestly I think a lot of this is function of age. The older the guy, the less likely they are ok with it. I don’t think it phases the younger guys much.

Another example of Trump creating demand in the economy. This time it’s for mental health professionals.
