The mayor of New Orleans had just declared that it was a terrorist act. And DEI Duncan gets up there and says, “This was not a terrorist event.” Exact words. Mistake? No big deal? Good Lord.

So the guy was in fact flying an ISIS flag on his vehicle when he went on his rampage. And still the FBI Lead on the scene said “This was not a terrorist event” at the first press conference this morning. If she wasn’t a DEI hire then we’ve got bigger problems in the FBI.

To qualify as a certified act of terrorism, the incident must be committed as part of an effort to coerce the civilian population of the United States or to influence the policy or affect the conduct of the US government by coercion. The key component here is the bolded. Terrorism requires that the act be politically motivated. Motive takes time to uncover. There can be clues at the scene (like an ISIS flag) but it usually takes more evidence gathering before a declarative statement can be made. In no circumstance should an FBI official say declaratively that something was NOT a terrorist event shortly after its occurrence. Ever. And they are trained on this.

And that she is incompetent. That’s actually the most important qualifier. Because incompetent FBI officials with a nose ring usually don’t exist unless there was another reason going on for hiring them.
