Good Lord what a FREAK SHOW. Place is dripping with estrogen. Kinda like this thread. -
JD Vance just launched a whole lot of truth: Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), the Republican nominee for vice president, told Breitbart News on Monday that Democrat elites ousting President Joe Biden as their party’s presidential nominee just over 100 days before the election is “insanely anti-democratic” and “quite dark.” Vance, who was announced as GOP presidential nominee former President Donald Trump’s running mate at the Republican National Convention on July 15, said in a phone interview on Monday afternoon before his hometown rally in Middletown, Ohio, that Democrat elites are proving that Democrats are the true threat to democracy in America with this move. “Whatever we think about Joe Biden — and I certainly don’t like him or like his policies — they effectively removed the president because he became a political liability, and they gave voters no choice in the outcome,” Vance told Breitbart News. “It’s actually quite dark if you think about it: A bunch of billionaires and Democratic politicians getting together in a room, deciding to deprive voters of the choice of who would be the nominee of the Democratic Party. It’s really anti-democratic, and it’s hysterical that after years of saying Republicans are the anti-democracy party, we actually ran a primary. President Trump won the trust and the confidence of Republican voters and the right to represent them on the national stage. Whoever the Democrats ultimately nominate, there is no democratic legitimacy because voters were not consulted. They were never given the opportunity to participate in this process, and I think it’s extraordinarily insulting to them and to everybody to think we could have somebody who has an approximately 50-50 chance of becoming president of the United States who voters have never weighed in on.” Biden announced on Sunday afternoon he was dropping out of the presidential race after weeks of members of his own party pushing for him to do so in light of his abysmal debate performance against Trump in late June. Biden had won the Democrat nomination earlier in 2024, fending off weak challenges from Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) and from author Marianne Williamson. More than 14 million Democrats voted for Biden, and their votes have been erased now with the push to get him out of the race. Vance said if Vice President Kamala Harris wanted to run for president in 2024, she should have run against Biden — and the same with anyone else, for that matter. “It’s definitionally anti-democracy. If they wanted to run somebody else for president, they should have done what everybody else has to do: Advance a candidate, fundraise for that candidate, get the message out there, try to persuade voters to select that candidate. That is how our process actually works,” Vance told Breitbart News. “What they did instead is they got Barack Obama, George Clooney, and George Soros in a room and decided to toss Biden aside because he was a political liability and try to install somebody else. It’s an insanely elitist and anti-democratic process. I don’t think we’ve ever seen anything like this in the history of our Republic where they have identified a political weakness on the president then threw him aside without giving voters the opportunity to weigh in.” When Breitbart News noted that Biden is still technically the president even though he stepped down as a candidate in November’s upcoming election, Vance replied that he is “in theory, right?” Asked what he makes of Biden remaining the president but having no public events scheduled for the upcoming week, Vance said this whole thing is really “creepy.” “It drives home how creepy it is that Biden hasn’t appeared, and he hasn’t spoken to the country,” Vance said. “He hasn’t shown any sign of life other than to announce that he’s not running for president, and, yeah, I think if you have a guy announce he cannot run for president, you should be asking questions about whether he can serve as president. Look, I don’t know what else you can say about it other than it’s extremely creepy; it’s the Democrat elites trying to control the country without giving voters a chance to decide, and I’m just insulted by that. I’m not a Democratic primary voter, obviously, but I think that if you actually respect voters and you respect the process we have, they should get to make these decisions — not George Soros, George Clooney, and Barack Obama sitting in a smoke-filled room.”

Secret Service investigating report agent left post to breastfeed during Trump campaign event

Secret Service investigating report agent left post to breastfeed during Trump campaign event By Stepheny Price Published August 15, 2024 Fox News The Secret Service is investigating a report that a female agent reportedly left her post at a Trump campaign event in North Carolina to go breastfeed. The Secret Service acknowledged the allegations and issued a statement to Fox News Digital stating that an investigation was underway. "All employees of the U.S. Secret Service are held to the highest standards. While there was no impact to the North Carolina event, the specifics of this incident are being examined. Given this is a personnel matter, we are not in a position to comment further," a spokesperson for the agency said. The incident reportedly happened during former President Trump's campaign rally event in Asheville on Wednesday. RealClearPolitics correspondent Susan Crabtree first reported the allegations and said that a female Secret Service agent had abandoned her post at Trump's event "to breastfeed with no permission/warning to the event site agent." "The site agent went to do one final sweep of the walking route and found the agent breast-feeding her child in a room that is supposed to be set aside for important Secret Service official work, i.e. a potential emergency related to the president," Crabtree wrote in a post on X. Crabtree added that a working agent on duty may not bring a child to a protective assignment. She said the agent in question was from the Atlanta Field Office. This latest incident comes as the agency is facing heightened scrutiny in the wake of the July 13 assassination attempt on Trump, prompting more questions and concerns about the agency's culture and staffing. Current and former USSS employees have voiced concerns about the agency being plagued by understaffing, even as its budget has increased to $3 billion. USSS leaders are being grilled not only on the failures on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, but also on their handling of their team's morale and their ability to recruit and retain talent. Following the assassination attempt on the former president, the ensuing outrage forced ex-Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who was appointed by President Biden in 2022, to resign. She was replaced by acting Director Ronald Rowe. Reports indicated that Trump had been denied requests for added Secret Service security on multiple occasions prior to the July 13 rally. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who is running as a third-party candidate, was also denied Secret Service protection before President Biden ordered the decision reversed days after the rally shooting. -

JFC. As jaded as I am, I actually didn’t believe this story when I first heard it. This country is a focking joke. -
I’m a bit torn on tariffs to be honest. I’d prefer that they be used as leverage to negotiate fair trade. But China has been a bad actor and hasn’t negotiated in good faith. It doesn’t do us any good to get cheap Chines parts made if we can’t sell them the end goods. A lot of economists have come around to the realization that neoliberal free trade is pretty much a thing of the past.
-
You mean Biden’s tariffs? You do realize that Biden has brought in more tariff revenue than Trump.

I actually think your first paragraph is a fair point. So I’ll just call her policy terrible rather than get into the semantics nonsense. But I think you’re dead wrong on the second point, and your opinion on that is becoming very much in the minority across all levels of the political spectrum. Until there is fair trade there is no free trade. Sorry.
-
Exactly. My point here is that the traditional, early 1900’s definitions of Socialism and Communism no longer work. There are almost no examples in the current world where a government “owns the means of production.” I’m not even sure people can define what that definition means with real-world examples. Who truly “owns” anything today? What does that even mean? Today it’s more about the degree to which Governments can exert influence over the economy, and that’s primarily defined by the extent of Regulations in play. Private ownership is rampant in China. In North Korea there are more privately owned companies than state-run. SquidTard, @timschochet, and the rest of the Leftists today like to stick with the1920’s definitions so they don’t have to acknowledge that what Kamala is proposing is more closely aligned with some of the most far Left economies of the world than it is to farthest Right. Tim is also stuck in the 80’s and early 90’s with his neoliberalism nonsense. That ship has sailed, and it ain’t coming back. There’s no such thing as “free trade” when there isn’t “fair trade”. It’s a simple concept, but one he will never understand. Fortunately others within the Democratic Party have learned it and have adopted Trump’s policies. What we need going forward is a new economic paradigm, and we are in the midst of seeing it develop. I hope to God that price controls aren’t a part of what emerges, because it’s been proven over and over that they don’t work.
-
And which countries in the world “own” the means of production?

WE’RE making it political??? That’s rich. It’s a known fact that espn is one of the most woke companies in the country. It’s completely dominated by Left-wing ideologues. They’re proud of it. And it’s well known at espn that if you’re going to post on social media, you better not espouse anything overly conservative. Sam Ponder posted against Algerian boxer Imane Khelif on X. Dan Orlovski made a similar post, but was smart enough to take it down, saying: “When you’re an employee of a big company, your social media page doesn’t just get to be your social media page. That’s a fantasy, so you have to represent yourself and the company that you work for in the proper way.” Read his statement carefully and think about Dan’s post which he took down - “Protect our daughters.” Two weeks later Sam ponder is fired in what is being called a cost-cutting measure. But espn isn’t saving a dime by firing her. They still have to pay out the remaining year of her contract. They could have just let her contract expire at the end of the year, so it’s actually going to cost them more money to fire her and bring in someone to replace her. And when was the last time you saw a corporate downsizing that only cut 2 employees? Oh, and the other employee just so happened to also post “unpopular” opinions on social media. We didn’t making it political. ESPN did. And if you don’t believe that you’re just plain ignorant.
