CB has been the Lions biggest issue all season. Sutton is a decent CB2, but the Lions don't have anyone who is remotely a shutdown CB. The Lions will be getting both Gardner-Johnson and James Houston back for the playoffs, which will upgrade both their pass rush and their secondary. The Lions are actually super strong at safety. They need to realize they have to double any elite reciever and play more zones. Putting Sutton one and one on Ceedee was a mistake. But don't sell the Lions chances short. No, they abaolitely did not. The announcement came as Goff was finishing up the play calling. They broke huddle and went to the line of scrimmage and hiked the ball with 2 seconds on the play clock. The Lions had no timeouts left. Even assuming Goff was listening to the announcement while he called the play (he wasn't), how is it possible to comprehend the error and correct it when you only had a couple of seconds to spare. The only way to 'correct' it would be to take a 5-yard delay of game penalty. This was an error which has never impacted a play before in NFL history.
