Should big corporations be allowed to buy single family homes
jonmx replied to Djgb13's topic in The Geek Club
If the legislature understood the ruling, they could prohibit corporations from contributing to super pacs. They just don't understand they can. The reason Citizens United won is because they were making protected political speech on behalf of individuals who have 1st Admendment rights. Corporate interests do not possess such rights. -

It is not the corporation which has free speech, but the individuals who pooled their money together for the sole purpose of providing a message who have free speech. Citizens United was not speech on behalf of a corporate interest, but was a tool for individuals to speak through. The simple fact that they were using a corporation, does not remove their right to be heard. If you really advocate for and support free speech, you would get it. If this were IBM, it would have lost, assuming the law was written correctly. But McCain-Fiengold was written too broadly and encroached upon free speech. The ruling protected lobby groups, not for-profit corporations. -
It is obvious the New York fraud case against Trump is itself a complete fraud. Even with a rabid Trump-hating judge making absurd ruling after absurd ruling, and a rabid incompetent Trump-hating prosecutor constantly lying, there is little chance anything will come of this case. The banks have testified they were happy with the deals and made lots of money and Trump was never in default. The banks have also said that they conservatively value properties and their opinions often lowers the values from Financials statements when making loan determinations. There were no victims of this alledged crime and there are even experts who said Trump's financial statements had no errors and they even valued the properties much higher than Trump's estimates. Besides all that, most of the case fails because of statue of limitations. Now I don't doubt this highly corrupt Trump-hating judge will find an excuse to convict Trump, there is zero chance it is upheld. All this does is prove Trump was a victim of malicious prosecution and is being deprived 1st Amendment rights by unconstitutional gag orders in the mist of an election. More and more the left is being exposed as corrupt authoritarian bastards who massively abuse their power and are the enemy of all the values which made this country great.

I understand you get educated by watching the media, but really that is one of thousands of pieces of propaganda they feed you which is not true. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_personhood#:~:text=The Citizens United majority opinion,or an association of people. The Citizens United majority opinion makes no reference to corporate personhood or the Fourteenth Amendment, but rather argues that political speech rights do not depend on the identity of the speaker, which could be a person or an association of people. You are welcome. -

That is not exactly what the ruling says. That is a popular mischaracterization. -
The left is so bent on the destruction of free speech that the ACLU steps in and defends the NRA

That is because the media which you adore hides about 50 percent of the pertinent facts. What your media tells you are the Twitter files are a nothingburger. The truth is the Twitter files exposed close ties between government agencies and social media censorship. We are not talking about hate speech. We are talking about posters who take positions against the government narrative on a whole bunch of topics. -

Tim, you know damn well the government provided spreadsheets on a daily basis to all the social media giants demanding that thousands of posts be removed and certain posters banned. The social media platforms also recievd special liability protections under the theory that they are a public square free speech platform. When they get into the business of targeting specific political viewpoints, that violates the principle on which those protections were granted. -
Biden hitting record low approvals, falling behind against Trump in 2024 matchup
jonmx replied to League Champion's topic in The Geek Club
Not at all. The real immediate threat for a totalitarian government is within the current leftist establishment which has taken over all the executive branch agencies. Trump can't really do crap because all the real power rests in the three letter agencies and they will not cooperate. We need to defange all those organizations and put some real checks and balances in place which holds those employees accountable if they abuse the rights of citizens. Including the DOJ with their malicious prosecutions. -

They are state creations. You can establish special rules for corporations which treat different corporation types differently. The problem with the campaign finance reform law was that even if it was an individual, that law would have made that ad illegal. McCain-Feingold was a terrible anti-speech law which needed to be struck down. The reasoning was poor and it would have been better if they took up a different case. -

It was the correct descion, not for profit corporations, but for non-profits who want to express an opinion. -

They are corporations, they are creations of the states. You can put restrictions on them. -

Biden is the figurehead of the corrupt state. The corrupt state fears Trump. That is the difference. -

Our executive branch has way too much unchecked power and we are dangerously close to slipping into a totalitarian state lead by establishment leftists. They hold most of the power the US has. -
What narrative are you talking about? The narrative of watching the entire sequence of events???? Or the narrative that your 'universal coverage' provided which were just snippets that put the cops in the worst possible light possible. It is your side who is lying through their teeth by the massive amount of factual evidence (body cam footage, original autopsy reports, actual training guides the police were given) that is omitted that skews the facts. You are lied to so much, but yet you still trust every word they feed you. There is not a single item in that documentary which is not 100 percent verifiably true. Just because the lying bastards in the media hide that evidence does it mean it is false. It is video of the event. How can you be so dumb?
-
Because the judge was a leftwing activist who disallowed key pieces of evidence and a jury who was barricaded in the middle of a violent mob threatening to burn down the place if a guilty verdict was not given.

Abortion protesters prosecuted under racketeering statues and newer laws which specifically target pro-abortion activists. Whistleblowers like Snowden who exposed large-scale spying of the NSA on American citizen. January 6th protesters who committed no acts of violence. Large scale censorship on social media which has been largely directed by government to monopolistic corporations who are supposed to be a platform of free speech which they recieve legal protections as. Just a few off the top of my head. -
What crime was that? Holding him in a way they were trained to restrain someone who is stronger than you? They were waiting for an ambulance to show up. It was a legal arrest as he was trying to pass counterfeit money and was meth-ed up out of his mind. You go abd try to deal with some big meth head.
-
He was a big powerful man drugged out if his mind. Three guys were unable to force him into a car. They tried for five minutes to put him in the car, but he continued to resists. They put him to the ground in an hold they were trained to do while waiting for an ambulance to show up. They were trying to get him help you focking idiot. One officer was black and another one was Asian. They did not kill him as he did not die of affiliation, but cardiac arrest.
-
It has more than that. It also documents how police leadership lied on the stand saying that type of restraint was not approved of or taught, but the instructor and other officers said otherwise and his mom showed the instruction manual showing that as a proper method of restraint. And the original autopsy report which documented George's poor health, high levels of drugs including meth, and said there was no evidence he died of affiliation. Instead the only autopsy report that was allowed was the one paid for by George's family.
-
I would not bet against him. The guy has the focus and competitiveness of a Tom Brady or Jerry Rice. He is a freak when it comes to being a perfectionist when it comes to his health and skills. Will they get 10 years of peak performance, maybe not. But they will get 5 or 6 years of near MVP level of performance. If he does not help lead them to a couple of championships, those last couple years will be painful.

Any list that puts Mark Knopfler at #93 isn't worth a click. Same magazine which ranked Led Zepplin as the 66th greatest band.

If you would watch the video above you would see two black professors, one who is a liberal who writes for the New York Times. McWhoter has written numerous articles about how this case of George Flioyd shows that police racism against blacks still shows the problem exists. After watching this video he flipped and is disgusted with this movement. The other black professor at Brown University, described what went on to these officers as a lynching and was the kind of justice a black man in the 1930's would have faced. I know how closed-minded you are, and are afraid to watch either of these two videos to see what the side is of the police officers is. But maybe one person is brave enough to watch it with an open mind.
-
John McWhoter (New York Times contributor/Coumbia University professor): "What we were told about George Floyd was a massive web of bullsh*t." Glenn Loury: "They lied to us" John McWhorter: "It should not take 20 years from now to admit that those riots were about something that did not happen."
-
Summary for the uneducated: 1. George Flyod was a lying thug who fought with police and refused to get in the car. He was too big and strong to be forced in. 2..George Floyd downed a bunch of pills when the cops first showed up. George Floyd had a long criminal record with a history of resisting arrests. 3. George Floyd had difficulty breathing long before he was put on the ground. 4. The police chief lied about the restraint they used. It was an approved hold which all officers were trained to used, but the jury was never told the truth. 5. The jury was never told about the very high levels of drugs found in George Floyd's blood. 6. The violence of the riots were far worse than the media portrayed. Even if you just watch the first 30 minutes of this film you will get to see all the body cam footage of what the cops had to go through during the arrest. It was no picnic and it was a black officer who made the arrest. You will also see George Floyd trying to pass off counterfeit bills which is why the police were called in the first place. The cops were angels if you watch the whole thing.
-
Unfortunately the jury was lied to by the chief of police about the training and the autopsy report which showed how much he was loaded up on drugs was not shown to the jury, not was much of the body cam footage.
