Times Square first hosted a New Year's Eve celebration in 1904 with a giant fireworks show but when city leaders banned fireworks a few years later, the ball drop tradition was born in 1907.

The date is December 31, 1999, and it's a Friday. Babies who are born today will have the star sign Capricorn. Many people have "that Friday feeling" and are looking forward to the weekend. It's New Year's Eve, and everyone is wondering what the year 2000 will bring. The nineties are drawing to a close, and a new decade awaits. In America, the song "Smooth" by Santana & Rob Thomas is at the top of the singles charts, while "I Have A Dream / Seasons In The Sun" by Westlife is the number-one song in the UK. Bill Clinton is the President of the United States, and the movie Stuart Little is at the top of the box office. Tony Blair is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. On television, people are watching popular shows such as "Will & Grace", "Charmed", "Futurama", and "Roswell". The CD is quickly becoming the dominant format for music, and people are buying portable players such as the "Discman". Consequently, sales of cassette tapes are continuing to decline. In fashion, bright and metallic colors are all the rage—a big change from the darker "grunge" colors of the early 1990s. Women are wearing maxi skirts, bell bottoms, knee boots, crop tops, tube tops, slip dresses, maxi coats, and platform shoes. Meanwhile, a lot of men have ditched their grunge and skater clothes in favor of a "dress casual" look. They are also beginning to cut their hair shorter. A relatively new form of communication called "text messaging" is becoming more widespread. Although the technology has been around since the mid-1990s, it was only recently that cell providers allowed users to send SMS messages to people on different networks. It's 1999, so radio stations are being dominated by the likes of Cher, TLC, Monica, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Santana and Ricky Martin. The Nokia 3210 is currently one of the most popular cellphones on the market. Pokemon has become one of the most popular franchises in the world, as trading cards, toys and handheld games gross over one billion dollars. As the millennium draws to a close, people are worried about the implications of the Y2K bug. In celebrity news, Catherine Zeta-Jones and actor Michael Douglas have recently become engaged. If you were to travel back to this day, notable figures such as Big Pun, Jim Varney, Tom Landry, and David Tomlinson would all still be alive. People are playing video games such as "Mission Impossible", "Syphon Filter", "Mario Golf", and "Unreal Tournament". Kids and teenagers are watching TV shows such as "Rugrats", "Bear in the Big Blue House", "The Wild Thornberrys", and "Bob the Builder". Children are playing with toys such as Jenga, Rescue Heroes figures, Finger skateboards, and Amazing Ally.

Mine has to do with pizza chain restaurants again and it's Little Caesars, The one that is two blocks away from me is never hot and ready, The last three times I been there it's a 15 minute wait. I feel like going off on a Seinfeld rant to their employees Do you not understand why people come here for pizza ? It's cause they don't have to wait for it and it's in your slogan Hot and Ready! You need to change your slogan to Hot Whenever It's Ready. Oh and my usual gripe lazy people that can't put their weights back when they are done at the gym. You can lift those heavy weights but just not able to put them back after ? Anyhow what you guys got ?

Got ya and let me try this out. Me and Eva Longoria really have no plans to go out tomorrow for New Years Eve, we are just going to Netflix and chill. -
Forty-five percent of Americans make New Year’s resolutions. The top resolutions are: to lose weight, get organized, to spend less and save more, to stay fit and healthy, and to quit smoking. While nearly half of all Americans make resolutions, 25 percent of them give up on their resolutions by the second week of January.

Doing it in the daylight here in PA was to warn other drivers there is a cop ahead so they would slow down. Maybe that has something to do with it being illegal ?

BeenHereBefore replied to BeenHereBefore's topic in The Geek Club
