Hey man, I don't get it either. But like I said, why the obsession with DGSH and things like that when I saw a HS dance team do a routine that was only missing Motley Crue, a couple poles, and peach perfume, if you get my meaning. You can't tell me it's about sexualizing kids or being against any of that at school when that is being trotted out frequently at events largely without a peep. You probably won't agree, but when I look at who the GOP frontrunner is, I find anything the right says about personal responsibility completely laughable. -

I'm thinking a couple of them got tricked and it confused them. -
Also, to be clear - are those the only 10 choices he has, and how many of those 10 does he have to read? My oldest is a Junior - I'll ask him what he has for Lit this year. I think last year was Lord of the Flies and some Shakespeare.

Uh, careful now - it wasn't banned. You can still purchase it online. Yes, and that's why my first reaction to these challenges/bans is to side with it being an overreaction. I've seen the lists of these books that are challenged from both sides for all sorts of dumb reasons. From Judy Blume to To Kill a Mockingbird to Of Mice and Men up to Gender Queer. Most of it is nonsense for anybody with a brain and involved with their kids, but here we are.

Care to share the choices? Classics aren't woke enough, gb.

That lasts until next week when I am due in to read to my kids' class. Thanks for the idea! -

Do you stop to ask people why that is? I can't speak for everyone you feel thinks this way, but for me I am not defending their belief, I am often defending their right to hold that belief and/or don't think it's that wildly different than things we already do or allow. For example, what I asked above - why is a drag show off limits for kids but we still allow (way more frequently) the types of "dance" teams that I've seen? I find the reactions interesting, which is why I am in those threads a bit. I will agree that the types of "freaks" you speak of are largely if not exclusively on the left. We won't agree on the personal responsibility comment and that being a solely left thing. -

Exactly, and like I said - I have no idea context of anybody at those things. Was it a parent who didn't know what exactly was there, were they actively encouraging their kids to do things, do they go to dozens of these a year, etc. Is taking a kid to a drag show or pride parade less or more "abuse" than letting the same kids watch horror movies and a ton of violence? Parents let their kids do all sorts of things that I find questionable, and I'd guess others don't like things I do with my kids. I get people getting this worked up when it's in the schools, and I have seen examples of DG story hour in schools. -

Mostly, I'd guess people's response is that they would go because they (and by default, their kids) are supportive of the LGBTQ community. I'd guess a good number are either LGBTQ themselves, or have friends/family. I would be curious to talk to some of the parents afterward as to what they expected going in, and if they were OK with what was there. I also think there is an element (granted, bizarre and freaky) of purposely trying to piss people off. I had a super gay kid working at the store a while ago that did things like that just to piss people off that he knew might be uncomfortable. I had to talk to him a couple times about it, but just saying that there is a little bit of that mixed in there somewhere. -

As a parent of 2 my fascination with the obsession about DQ shows and pride parades is that there are way more common things that people don't seem to say a peep about. Have any of you witnessed the dance teams and moves and outfits, for example? WTf - talk about sexualizing kids in schools. People seem more upset about a movie about that (Cuties) than the actual thing. It's bizzare to me. -

I'd largely guess they are not, so I agree with you. I just had the urge to be a Richard and find one, but the result would be twofold: f0cking with my algos, and you posting about 100 worse examples. -

Just to be clear, i don't hold you responsible for stupid Rs and don't think you do or should support all their policies. That's all you. Curious how much control we have over who is in the AMA, if they are all libs, and what they recommend either. -

See I find this line of thinking wildly idiotic too, but we can disagree on that as well. -

So that means all "libs" back this? That nonsense is where you guys get me laughing. You can't stop at facts and articles, you have to slip in almost the hyperbole too. -

Wasn't talking specifically on this, just the loons you post in general. Thought his part about "and paid for by the taxpayers" to be the best part. -

Why are Democrats so afraid of "No Labels" in politics?
BuckSwope replied to Mike Hunt's topic in The Geek Club
Yes, the numbers are worse now, that is correct. I never claimed the numbers wouldn't go down in the previous administration, my opinion was it wasn't a long term solution and I have concerns with breaking up kids from parents and the ramifications of SIM that I have brought up. Was it "something"? Sure. Is it a fix to the huge problem that immigration has become? No, and I've explained my thoughts why - hiring and asylum. -

Yes, like that. Do you see me in here rallying behind that or saying it's a good idea to keep dumping Billions there instead of here? -
Why are Democrats so afraid of "No Labels" in politics?
BuckSwope replied to Mike Hunt's topic in The Geek Club
I agree, but I am also not going to rally behind policies or solutions that don't address a problem or worse, waste more money or make things worse. -

BuckSwope replied to Mike Hunt's topic in The Geek Club
He tried, yes. I think his solutions were dumb and didn't help, because again- they didn't address the 2 things above. Imo anything other than that is a laughable band-aid fix, and probably a huge waste of time and money.
