Putin signs law banning gender change in Russia
BuckSwope replied to JustinCharge's topic in The Geek Club
A key piece you leave out in all this that maybe while you believe that, the actions of the GOP are pushing for bans in many of those cases, not just age restrictions or other limits. That is not letting people largely do what they want. Each side says they want that, but when you look at their actions it's just for things they agree with. A lefty that wants their choices for trans people might tell you not have a gun and ban that, and vise versa. -

You can pry my old stove from my cold, dead hands. -
I did, and assumed you were being hyperbolic, and thought I'd bust balls instead. Do you have the same gripes about Forest Gump, Scorsese movies, and others have have frequent music cues? What was the point then - what should frequent pop songs tell us about a movie?
-
That it's set in the 80s?
-
Affleck should stay behind the camera for sure.

How long before we get a woke rating for movies and shows? Setting on the TV to filter it out?
-
Well, that's because you are a flaming lib and just nod along to the message. I'm behind a bit on the movies, this one is still on my watchlist.

Was there any whiff of woke or a liberal talking point? At any point were guns drawn or boobs out?

Not specifically, but not a terrible example either. -

My point is your perception and description of the left is not real life representation, at least in my experience. Just like the nuts here are not representative of the right interact with in real life. They vote for the same issues you do, they just might not agree or have different rankings. People largely just want to be left alone and provide for their family. If you go by issues or use a site like isidewith, I line up closest with libertarian. Do you ask people why they voted how they did? Sad thing is largely politicians don't care about the issues or talk about them, so I can't largely blame the population is they get sucked into feels and culture wars. -

Soft on crime is certainly an issue for them. Like I said though, culture war stuff is not at the top of my list when voting for big offices. I still think you all spend too much time online too, I know 0 people Irl who don't care about "normal" people and family, no matter their voting record. -

Debauchery. Exactly, that was the point of my posts awhile ago. I don't view our country in terms of patriots vs. groomers. I have no problems with patriotism and safe communities. I'm sure we differ a bit on the first part, though. -

Exactly, and the sides don't agree on what part of the culture to preserve. The left brings up immigrants and melting pot and the right hardens back to nuclear families and getting away from church. -

Our culture has never been as homogeneous as other cultures, which also should be factored in the discussion. -
What's the average age of the people who post here?
BuckSwope replied to seafoam1's topic in The Geek Club
47 here, probably on the young side for these boards. This is me as well. I lean 3rd party when voting, as a whole but state and locally vote for all 3. I don't understand how people can vote 100% for one party or another. The distinction for me is that while I agree with the right on many things, it's often not things at the top of mind when voting- culture war stuff, for example. Especially for larger office like PotUS. Also, while I agree with many policies, my general outlook doesn't match with the right. -

Its almost as though people are looking for things to be upset about because it gets attention and clicks. Attention and clicks for riling people up too, but that's riskier. -
Not possible - only Trumpers passed on the shot.

The bolded is not a requirement to support defunding or changes.

I disagree, because of the interactions and training. I think it's a deadly combination that has eroded at the trust in the system and safety off all involved. Like people agreed in the other thread - we are largely using things like broken taillights, which while are a safety hazard aren't 100% the reason for the stop - it's to look for more. So we have fostered a system where the citizens know they are largely being pulled over for this stuff, and for their safety cops have to react and treat each encounter like the person is hiding something. Tensions are already high before they start talking to each other. It was shown to be effective a small % of the time, but we use that way of policing most of the time. IMO it's got to change.
-
I get what you are saying, but we default to the side of the cops for good reason. The vast majority are good and how can we trust our system if we don't believe that as well? That said, in no way shape or form should cops be getting rehired when there is a history of violence vs. citizens in cases like this.
-
I'm sure there is a bit of that. But I am coming at it from the side of the police and their safety and I think it's worth it. What's the reasoning behind the outlaw of K9s?
-
Ok, that's pretty funny. I bet there's been some weird dolls in the collection over the years.
-
Dogcows - the only way this thread might be constructive is if there is more detail and follow up to these cases. I have read way too many examples of details coming out later that can and should change perceptions of many of these types of incidents. IMO most of these examples fall in line with what my opinion was in the other thread. We need to change up our policing somehow - step one is way fewer pullover interactions for things that can be a mailed ticket/fine.

I'm glad I opened this one. You reported so many people that Joe of all people had to tell if you reported more YOU would get suspended?
