    Value and sleepers

Now I am a seasoned veteran of fantasy football, and I consistently come in the money, let me get that out of the way... What I am having a hard time understanding is the constant talk of value and sleepers in regards to complete unknowns. I completely understand the concept of value during drafting, and I completely understand the concept of sleeprs. What I do not understand is the hard ons for complete unknowns. People strutt around talkin about, eh he's ok, doesn't have much upside, but so and so was a steal in the 15th, and has huge upside. I play in leagues of 10 teams, 12, and 14, and even in the 14 team league, we don't start the likes of butros butros ghali. Am I missing something, or is it just fantasy nerds actin all cool about some inside info they believe to have. At the end of the year, I'd rather have marvin and his consistent 1200 yards and 10 tds than get a hard on for chris perry and his possible breakout year. Dunno, just wanted to throw it out there to maybe get a better grasp, cuz sometimes I feel like I'm missing out on something, and then sometimes I feel like this is all just retard talk from uber nerds...

    Value and sleepers

perfect illustration of my point in real life. Some schmuck who's reading boards like this one all too much got caught up int the hype. I bet Jamal lewis and 5 other starting backs were still there for teh taking. 'Oh fred taylor, he doesn't have much upside. I like wali lundi, blahblahblah.' Proven commodity over unknown commodity. Common sense. I see it year in and year out. Mainly since the advent of websites/board like this one. Not knocking the board, I think it's great. Lots of useful info that you wouldn't be able to amass otherwise unless you had 8 hrs a day scouring the internet. But some cats get too crazy about the 3rd wr on the saints who's moving up the depth chart and might be named the starter across from horn! Whoop dee doo, just cuz he's starting doesn't mean he'll outscore TJ whosyourmama over the course of a season. Every once in a blue moon, you'll get that anquan boldin, but there is no way in hell anyone was sweating him from the get go. If anyone drafted him, ti was because he was the next best wr letf on the board in round 18. Others got him via free agency and probably still acted like they knew something no one else did. That is the point being made. Quite amusing, and also profitable when others behave in this manner. It's the opposite of the guy who buys a fantasy football magazine in june and drafts off that, but often the results are quite the same...

    Value and sleepers

We're speaking of 2 different things. Taking him is fine. He will get taken by someone, whether they overanalyze the situation or not. Starting him, or even talkin junk like you know something others dont in regards to the player is stupid. That is the point of this entire thread. Everyone gets drafted if your league has enough teams and a deep roster. It's talkin smack about some unknowns like you're 'in the loop' on something others aren't is retarded, when 99 out of the 100 unknowns, including the likes of lundi, will not produce much. That 1 that will, well whoever got him is lucky. Got him through attrition in the draft, not via some inside info ony you were privy to. Dig it?

    Value and sleepers

Yes, that wali lundy is going to be a game breaker man, can't wait till end of season when he's sittin on 1800 total yards and 14 tds! Over analysis kiddies. If you're in a 10-14 team league, there are enough known commodities that you shouldn't be wasting time starting the likes of lundis till they prove themselves over, lets say, atleast a 3 game stretch...

    wow--bad choice on c. henry

  6. Watching yesterday's games, seemed like more than 1/2 the teams in the league were running some form of RBBC. Even teams with solid #1 rbs, like the giants. Is this a new era ushering in, with coaches spreading the love for whatever reason? Makes sense to me, and honestly I have year after year questioned why coaches wouldn't do this to keep their backs healthier through the year. If this is infact the case, it will have a significant impact on how we manage fantasy rosters. Take TIKI for instance. If anyone suspected him losing about a 1/3 of his carries, on top of losing goalline carries, he wouldn't have been the consensus #4 pick. Discuss amongst yourselves, I'm a bit vclemped...

    Brandon Stokley

if either wayne of harrison go down, he is gold. In a league where i have harrison, I drafted him and will leave him on my roster till the end of season for just that reason...

    T. Henry

I think they're still tryin to shop henry. At this stage of their careers, henry is NOT a better back than Brown, the injury bug aside. And with lendale the supposed future, I can see them shopping one of those 2 backs, as was speculated in the preseason...

Is this the dawn of the RBBC era?!?

Stating individual instances, ala dunn/alstott, or tiki/dayne(which never really materialized anyways) doesn't constitute an era. When many teams, like almost half, are giving a 1/3 or more of their touches to a 2nd back, you can say something is shifting within the league. To date, I do not recall this ever being the case. Again, it's week 1, and teams might just be easing into the season, spelling their studs, but I believe it is an ideological shift. I mean it aint like these backs are just coming in on 3rd down, or just at the goalline. Multiple backs yesterday had entire series to themselves, regardless of score, time in game, or position on field. That is significant...

Is this the dawn of the RBBC era?!?

I know the discussion occurs every year, but never have I seen so many RBBCs in a year before. I know it is game one, but damn near every other team gave touches to someone other than their #1. I can understand shanny and his antics, and cats like Westbrook who have consistently shared touches, but this year is different. Seems there is an idealogical shift. Coaches are buying into keeping their main guy fresh throughout not only the game, but the season I suppose. If this idealogy gains steam, it will significantly change the landscape of FF. One will now have to analyze which backs are going to split time, and what % of touches will be taken away from them. That is a variable that will be hard to decipher in most cases. Just take TIKI as a prime example. I think jacobs is a beast, and the 2 headed moster will work wonders for them, but imagine he didn't get all those touches last night. TIKI would have went for 250 total yards and a td, if not 2!

Who got killed by a Td-less qb today?

I got killed by a tittliess QB! That b!tch!!!
  12. p00h

I Told You Guys About Tiki!

I think he's overvalued at #4, which is basically where he went most drafts this year. The sole reason is brandon jacobs. Looks like he aint just a goalline back, he's gonna get about a 1/3 of the touches. And rightfully so. The combo is going to be lethal for their opponents. For Tiki, however, in terms of fantasy value, makes him most definately not a #4 overall. As a football player, the guy is great, no doubt. One of the best in the league, and I agree always underappreciated. HOF is not absurd to talk about. His overall numbers are pretty damn consistent...

    Value and sleepers

You missed my point. Simply put, my point is that even though a chris perry might be a sleeper in the 12th round, what are the odds of him contributing to your team. I mean every year there are about 3 really really unknown players that come through and are fantasy options on a weekly basis. I'm talkin really unknowns. It's one thing to believe Matt Jones will blow up this year, but to go on and on and on about maurice drew and how you got him in the 14th as a steal is over analyzing. That is the point. The way many go on and on about some of these players who will not only not contributre this year, but most likely won't even be in the league in 3 years is just stupid. Some cats think they are actual NFL gms, which is laughable at best. That was the point I was trying to convey. People asking, 'who is starting opposite horn. 3 other guys will step in and talk about this guy has the inside track, keep an eye on this, blahblahblah. Does it matter who is starting opposite of horn? Will that individual, whomever it may be, really be a viable starting option? Answer is no, unless you're in a 20 man leauge or you are required to start 9 wes. So over analyzing those individuals is retarded, and makes one a fantssy 'know it all' nerd...

Think the Texans made a mistake?

What Mario or Reggie end up doing with their careers is irrelevant to the discussion of whether the texans made a mistake. It is absurd to believe they might have made the right move, when the player at hand is the most electric football player to have entered the NFL draft in quite some time. I mean 25 other teams in the league would have either drafted bush with their pick, regardless of who they had at rb, or would have traded down. Mario williams isn't gonna suddenly make that defense respectable, regardless of how well he plays. And that only factors in the football part of the equation. Outside of that, the franchise is a joke. Having bush playing would have sold more tickets, got the franchise a bit of swagger it so sadly needs. Williams can end up surpassing reggie white in statistics, and it was still a mistake. The franchise is a joke, much like the lions are a joke. Their drafting a wr 3 years running is even dwarfed by the blunder of not getting the appropriate value of the #1 pick in a year bush was coming out...

    David Carr

Crack kills. You might believe you have the habit under control. 'I can quit whenever I want to' you catch yourself saying. Don't be fooled. Next thing you know, it's 20 years later, you're laying on a soiled mattress in the middle of Brooklyn, talkin about next year Carr will get 25 tds and 4000 yards, he's got to! Drugs are bad mmmmkay...
  20. p00h

    David Carr

I do not doubt this, which will just further solidify the texans as the worst organization in football. They pass up not only the most explosive back to come out in quite some time, knowing damn well they need help at rb, but also pass on a couple of solid qbs that could be quantified as going #1, knowing damn well Carr is a bust. I think he might be a servicable backup somewhere in the league, but he doesn't have the goods to start. Blame the Oline all you want, but at some point you have to look in the mirror. Texans are a joke, and drafting any player on the team is a joke...

    David Carr

My honest prediction is 3 LOLs, with 1 and 1/2 LMAOs. That is strictly for game 1. I might downgrade or upgrade based on week1 performance...

    Chris Chambers?

anyone with any little injury that might have missed any preseason playing time is listed as zero on cbs. Crack is wack...
  23. Per Cbssportsline: Brown has done nothing to endear himself to the Titans' coaching staff this preseason, requesting a trade at the onset of training camp, so we feel like that plays a role in this move, too. Brown will still warrant carries in Tennessee, but expecting anything more than 15 touches a game is a mistake at this point. Fantasy owners should consider Brown a low-end No. 4 RB or a reserve option worth a late-round pick in all leagues. Is this wacky news even remotely true?!?
  24. p00h

Travis Henry to start in Tenn?!?

Only what cbssportsline is spitting out. FWIW, when Chris brown is healthy, he's a damn solid back. And that offense will surprise people this year. Volek is pretty good as well. That rb spot will produce pretty decent #2 rb numbers...
