Biden claims Philadelphia got him “across the line” when he ran for Senate in Delaware.
RLLD replied to Maximum Overkill's topic in The Geek Club
Have you noticed that they have "buddy'ed up" Hunter with him? Forgetting, for the moment, that lie about him not being involved with Hunter and there being separation etc..... I bet.....This is Jill, planting Hunter in there as a safeguard to prevent people from convincing Joe to stop running..... -
I do not really agree. I see your idea as likely leading to anarchy. Our current system ensures that people have a voice, and no political party can run them over. Its not perfect to be sure, but its among the best in the world. If we can leave it alone it will work. It might be true that liberals do not get their way as often as they desire, that is no reason to change the system.

Why is nothing being done to address public school attendance crash?
RLLD replied to IGotWorms's topic in The Geek Club
I think the entire school thing is sometimes laughable. I know there are specific schools in our area where the performance is better, but for the most part they all perform rather well. I am acquainted with a handful of people and among them are those who sent their kids to the <ahem> "elite" school..... which is perhaps the highest performing, and notably their home prices are reflective of this factor too. But their kids mostly performed more poorly than mine, who attended a school that they absolutely looked down upon. The factor is simple, people who had good parents in a good household simply did better. If you had sh!tty parents, you did less well. So these folks apparently did not entirely "get this" and assumed that by sending their kids to the ....."elite" school.....the success was automatic.....which of course, it was not, because the outcome of your kids is mostly YOU...... if you raise them properly.....they are more than likely going to do well....if you suck as a parent, they will do less well. -

It would appear that the system worked. -
We can agree to disagree. I see the rights of states to be more important that federal control, far more important. Many framers of the Constitution feared that a strong central government could threaten the freedom of citizens and become tyrannical. They had just won independence from Britain and were determined to avoid creating another government that could enslave them. They admitted that the central government needed power to function. To balance this, the framers compromised by giving the federal government specific responsibilities while delegating other functions to the states. The framers' concerns about a strong central government were reflected in the Articles of Confederation, which intentionally weakened the national Congress and gave most power to state governments. However, some individuals, including Alexander Hamilton, argued that the Articles didn't concentrate enough power in Congress. The role of the federal government should be drastically limited to the fullest possible extent.

To be fair, I should not. If you really......really......believe a lie, you are not lying....you are just naive.

I think it has to be Harris because to not elevate her would send the DEI elements of the party into absolute upheaval.

The Cabinet is an advisory body made up of the heads of the 15 executive departments. Appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, the members of the Cabinet are often the President's closest confidants. There should be some moderation of the selection of the cabinet through Senate oversight I guess.

The three essential fascist tactics are: (1) demonization of domestic enemies ; Such as referring to people as deplorables, or MAGA or white supremacists..... (2) preposterous lies ; such as Russian Collusion, very fine people, Hunters laptop, Jan 6th, inflation isnt happening, inflation is transitory. the inflation reduction act will lower inflation or Joe Biden is not having cognitive issues (3) contempt for democratic institutions; such as how some folks call out SCOTUS, vilify the police and border patrol

So when you think of employees who oppose him, are you thinking of cabinet members and department heads, or more folks? Just trying to understand a little better. Conceptually what you say makes sense, if the President has people around him to advise him from making bad decisions, well there is value there....
-
I see your point. I might counter that those in leadership positions need to buy into the new administrations policies. So the incoming President should consider this carefully. For me, the entire leadership of the DOJ needs to be considered for replacement, but other agencies maybe not. So there should be some ability for the President to ensure those in these positions are not working against him/her. At least review them fairly, I think it would be less suitable to get into the weeds of the org, let the new leaders root out the folks who only want to ruin things.

Not sure. I would need to learn more about her position, if she would be willing to talk about it. I want to at least give an adult the chance to have an exchange, maybe I would buy into her position.....maybe not....but we should have an open mind and deal with each other forthrightly, and in the end, disagree as adults.
-
While I might contest her position. I am just really happy to finally have someone who can bring forward a thought without being a complete focking child about it. Its like, really....really.....nice....
-
Your assertion is reasoned. I could see this working.

Thank you for this thoughtful and cogent reply, this is in such low supply here lately. Great stuff.
