I doubt Biden pardons himself. But the timing of the Hunter pardon is telling. Most pardons transpire after sentencing, and where the individual has actually served time. One notable exemption on this would be Nixon, not great company to be in. Biden had to act fast to avoid the presentence investigation, what would likely come out of that would be devastating for Joe.

Might it now be true that every pardon he executes moving forward will be scrutinized more heavily? Why not simply wait until the 11th hour, and sneak it in at the very end? What is the advantage to doing it now? The most important advantage is not having that presentencing investigation......

Through this pardon, Joe has effectively protected himself. The only way we were likely to learn about all the criminal activity executed by Joe Biden was through Hunter. So now that Hunter is protected we likely never learn the full extent of what Joe Biden sold to our enemies for all that money funneled to his family. You seem to have more faith in politicians than I do. of course I think Trump will pardon himself..... just as I was certain Joe would pardon his son......back when you insisted he would not..... I also maintain that Trump WILL pardon himself and he WILL use this example as the reason. Most people are pardoned after serving their time. Prior to the time being designated there is something called a Presentence Investigation, its rather thorough, they have now avoided this. Which is smart on their part. So this is different.....than just about any other pardon I can think of.

Joe could have simply stated that he loved his son and would pardon him, period, end of story. I think we all knew that was coming and expected it. Instead, he pointed toward the legal system being abused, that was extra that was not warranted. This is the same argument Trump has been using for years, Bide just corroborated that the system CAN be used inappropriately, and when a President has decided that has transpired, that President can then pardon that individual. I do not like that precedent. I also take issue with the time frame of the pardon, but that to me is a lesser evil here.

As I noted above, I could see how Trump might now pardon himself.... I think that is a real outcome potential at this juncture, and I think we can all agree that we would NOT support that. I can recall one other instance of a President pardoning a family member, but setting aside the irrelevant for a moment. I can see how this could open up an avenue for Trump to pardon himself. Hunter was always the means to get to the heart of Joe's crimes. This is how the DOJ has always handled organized crime, so the strategy fit. Hunter was a rather easy target and there was obvious deference toward him overall that made it even easier to get after him later. Not surprised he got a pardon, none of us should be, this was always going to happen. The problem here, mostly for liberals, will be the precedent it sets.
