Does your wife/s.o./ho prefer a man or woman OB/GYN...
Brown Eyed Girl replied to thetxstang's topic in The Geek Club
I've had both and don't have a preference between a male and a female. My choice is to have a doctor who is experienced and good at what they do... male or female... does not matter to me. -

Thanks Porkbutt! For all the Geekette moms.... Enjoy your day, girls!

You're absolutely right. Also with my mom, she wouldn't care if she had zero gifts... but she LOVES receiving nice sappy, sentimental cards. In fact, whenever my sis and I give her a card, the test begins when she starts reading it. If she cries while reading it, we know we did good!

Bought my mom a Mother's Day card yesterday. Slightly larger than average size card... kind of fancy, but not the greatest. I didn't bother to look at the price on the back. The guy rings me up and says, "$6.85." For 1 card???
-
I'd be very cool with that!

That's a nice gift!

I didn't realize full serve stations were still around. Or I thought only the elderly and handicapped used them. Why don't you just pump your own gas?
-
I'm confused here... Who exactly did you tip? Did he pump your gas for you?
-
Yes, I think about this stuff and plan ahead for it the best I can. First, determine which specific things you anticipate the need to save for. For example, here is what I do: I have certain named accounts, such as... - Auto Maintenance - for everything car related (except gas); repairs, regular maintenance, annual registration, possible tickets, car washes. - Vacation - for planned and scheduled trips. - Travel - for an unexpected trip or emergency flight I may need to make. and so on... Each week (or each pay period), I set aside a determined amount into each of these accounts. (it's the same amt. each wk, based on income and budget allowances). After a period of time, you will have built a good amt in each one and you will be able to pull from it when necessary. To elaborate on that: If you know your 'anticipated' expense for your car for the year might be, say... $2000., then you know you need to set aside roughly $38/week to meet that figure, etc. Works great for me and I recommend it. You just have to be sure you keep up with it and make it a regular part of your budget.

Thomas and Nancy Beatie moved to Oregon from Hawaii a couple years ago. They run a successful business, own a home and are expecting their first child, a girl, in July. And then there’s the rub: Thomas, not Nancy, will be the one delivering the baby. Thomas’ story ignited across the Web last week after Thomas published an essay on advocate.com. His impending maternity/paternity leave challenges our notions of gender roles and societal norms, and generally induces a bit of head shaking. Wait a minute – the transgender Thomas still has girl parts? Yep. He decided to keep ‘em during his reassignment process years ago and was – clearly – successful in restarting his period after years of female hormone suppression. Thomas is legally both male and married to Nancy. He certainly looks the part, too, with a flat chest and facial hair, thanks to surgery and testosterone therapy. His six-month baby bump might otherwise pass for a well-fed beer belly, if Thomas weren’t the unabashedly proud father/mother-to-be that he is, even in the face of judgment from the likes of family members and doctors. Once upon a time, surrogate motherhood and same-sex adoption likely blew away firmly held beliefs about reproduction and family. In the future, when pregnancy news is delivered, will “Who’s carrying?” be a common follow-up question to “When are you due?” Link to Pregnant man article

Had my car in the shop this week with a cracked radiator. Cracked in 2 places so it was not repairable. They replaced the radiator and thermostat, added some engine coolant and my bill was $729. While getting an oil change at Jiffy-Lube yesterday, they told me I was overcharged. What do you think? About half of this was labor.

Yeah, my dream of owning a Jetta is out the window, unfortunately as every mechanic has told me the same thing about them. BMW was my other (first) fave, but that's just out of reach!
