I’m surprised we haven’t had more out of hand protests and violent conflict between the NG and US citizens. Seems like what Trump wanted when he told them to use maximum force and treat US cities like training grounds. The Guard and most people have shown a lot of restraint.

Shooter worked with the CIA in Afghanistan, cane here under Operation Allies Welcome in 2021, and was granted asylum status in 2025. Can’t pin his being here at all on any admin. My guess is he’s either a straight up nutter / PTSD case or he was angry that the US was reviewing the temporary protective status of afghanis who backed US troops. The fact that he drove across the country to shoot guardsmen in DC makes this seem more ideological than just Islamic terrorism.

HS2 in the UK is roughly the same length at a price tag of around $90b. How come the UK and Japan manage to get HSR done and we can’t? Trump made it about himself when he started canceling federal grants out of spite. Like I said, they’re shooting to start laying track in 2026. I hope it succeeds. It would be a nice change of pace to see government deliver on something bold.
