NFL history is full of top QB picks who busted. Just look at Tim Couch, selected one pick ahead of DMac. Or Akili Smith, taken one pick after. Nine teams passed on Mahomes. One of them took Trubisky at 2 overall. Wild coincidence how Big Red keeps ending up with stud QBs.

Smith was considered a massive bust til Reid got there. Vick missed most of three seasons before starting for Reid and playing the best ball of his life. Garcia was on his 3rd team in 3 years before leading the Eagles to the playoffs at age 35. I guess McNabb and Mahomes could have been studs under any coach. Neither were 1st overall picks or considered can’t miss generational prospects.

Reid should get some credit for Mahomes. He’s had the Midas touch with QBs throughout his career: McNabb, Garcia, Vick, Alex Smith, etc. He had AJ Feeley play well enough to net a 2nd rounder. Under another coach it’s very likely most of these QBs are far less successful.
