  1. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Larry will never throw a QB of his under the bus.

    Owens:

    Garcia

    McNabb

    Bledsoe

    Romo

And if he would have played with him long enough, I'm sure he would have found something to b!tch about with Steve Young.

    Then there are the drops.

But hey, Fitz doesn't have his own reality show!!!

Didn't he whinge about Young's left handed spirals being hard to catch?

  2. Not without a RZ target (tall fella) or a bruiser to push the pile for 1 yard - Or is Buckhalter still the answer?

    Brown 6'1"

    Curtis 6'0"

Baskett 6'4" but 16 receptions isn't going to get it done

    Avant 6'0"

L.J. Smith - He could be a big contributer but 22 receptions isn't going to get it done.

With the exception of last season the Eagles have always been pretty good in the RZ duing Reid's tenure. They have never scored in the RZ by having a tall target or playing smash mouth football though.

Of course 22 receptions isn't good enough from Smith but he was banged up all season. I'm sure a healthy Smith will catch in the 50-60 region like he did the previous 2 years.

  3. If the Eagles are going to win the Super Bowl this year, it's going to come down to how well that defense plays. Not just one or two of those guys, but how they play as a unit.

They may have the best group of CBs in the league at the moment, assuming Lito is a part of the team come September. The D-line should be solid, especially if Chris Clemons is the addition they expect him to be.

Their LB core is young and promising, but will need to prove themselves game in and game out every week.

At safety they still have Dawkins. He's slowing down, but is still one of the best at his position. I'm not thrilled with Sean Considine as a every down player, but I think he's decent in coverage. Quintin Mikell may be able to become the starter there, which I wouldn't mind.

With the secondary they have, I think you'll see a lot more blitzing from the Eagles this season. I think they want to have Clemons and Juqua Thomas causing havoc at the line with Gocong coming often from the linebacker position.

Their offense won't change much from last season, but I'm real excited to watch the guys on the defensive side of the ball this year.

Jim Johnson has all ready said Mikell is his starter at SS.

I think the 2 biggest areas of need are defensive turnovers and production from the TE position. IMO a healthy LJ Smith makes a big difference to the O. On D I think Samuel, Bradley and Clemons/Abriamiri are going to determine whether this D can setup from being good last season to being very good this season.

  4. Lets see they both finished 8-8 thats how it worked out. The Cards are a better team than the Eagles. Not counting on injuries it's just of course how you misinterpreted the statement. If the injuries do happen and they finish with a worse record that is no excuse. :Comprehension:

Philly played the toughest schedule in the league last year and the Cards played one of the easiest. They both finished 8-8 yet the Cards are a better team

  5. Here is the big question of all? Can they contend for a Super Bowl? NO! Where are the upgrades? Chris Clemons? Asante Samuel? Samuel is just a small upgrade over Sheppard. Clemons we have no idea. What upgrades have been done to the offense? The Eagles were the worst team in takeaways in 2007 I don't think Samuel will make them a top five team in takeaways. Jim Johnson's scheme is old and kinda reminds me of how Buddy Ryan dominated with his 46 for a period of time. It's time for a coaching change. I mean the team has finished last in the division two out of the last three years. If McNabb struggles I'm sure the Philly faithful will start the Kolb chanting. Quit with all the Eagle threads because the bottom line is you guys are the most  delusional fans in all of professional sports. Have fun playing for third place behind Dallas and the Giants in the division.

Funny how Steve Spagnuolo used the same scheme to help the Giants D dominate the best offense ever in the Super Bowl

  6. It wouldn't be easy, but it's conceivable.

It's fairly easy for a 10-6, 11-5, even a 12-4 team to lose the division, especially in the AFC. The 2005 Steelers, for example, were 10-2 on the road. Play .500 ball at home, in a tough division, peak at the right time, and have a little bit of luck, and it's possible.

Exactly, you only have to finish 2nd in your division to be a wild card and play all your playoff games on the road. If 2 great teams were in the same division a team could easily finish with 15, 14 13 wins and finish 2nd in their division but still go 8-0 on the road.

  7. As an Eagle fan, I find the comment from this source pretty retarded. Bunkley played pretty well this year, and yes, McCoy and Moats haven't panned out.

Calling Justice a bust is premature, considering he came out of college early and is playing behind Tra Thomas. Granted, he had a bad game, but to call someone a bust after one game (where the coaches gave him no help) is ridiculous.

And he talks about the Eagles not having as many free agents out of college on their squad! They hit it out of the park before and now since they haven't lately, they're failing?

The Kevin Kolb thing has been explained numerous times. He's a guy they really liked and the organization was unsure if McNabb would be able to come back. He was long term insurance, which is smart considering QB is, after all, the most important position on the focking field.

It's funny how no mention is made of picks like Shawn Andrews and Brian Westbrook. Westbrook's the best back in the NFC right now and he was a third round pick.

Heckert's been in charge of scouting and player personnel for awhile, yet it's Reid who has the final say on who they pick in the draft and free agency.

Thanks for sharing this, because now I definitely know I'll never read Profootballweekly ever. :overhead:

I agree, that article is complete BS. Bunkley a bust? ;) Moats might have been a wasted pick but I think he might still do ok in this league once he gets a decent opportunity. Hard to do much stuck behind one of the best backs in the league.

How about Trent Cole? 5th round pick who is one of the better DE's in the league now. They've drafted plenty of good players since Heckett has been around, and as you said AR is still really calling the shots.

  8. Andre Johnson is the 2nd WR I'm taking off the board next season.....AJ if he stays Healthy will be fighting Randy for being the #1 WR

That is what stood out to me as well. He should be much higher, AJ was a clear 2nd in points per game in all of my leagues. I would put him up there with Owens and Wayne, with Schuab in his second year in the system I think AJ's value only goes up.

  9. Bush isn't $hit. He will never to be able to carry a full load all year long. He shouldn't even be on this list. Look at Addai he would be no. 3 behind LT, Peterson.

Way to completely miss the point of the post :first:

    1. Bush

    2. McFadden

    3. LT

    4. Peterson

    5. Brown

Sounds about right to me, could maybe switch LT and ADP. I don't remember there being heaps of hype about LT being a can't miss type prospect.

  10. Boy, you sort of cherry pick dontcha? Kind of glossed right over the part that SEA wouldn't even BE in the SuperBowl were it not for the fact that they were the first and ONLY team in the history of the NFL to get in without having played higher than a 5 seed. That means they never even FACED the best 3 teams in the Conference. How is that perpetuating quality football? How does that make them worthy of being in the SB when every other team in the history of league had to AT least beat one of the top 3 teams in their conference? That's jacked up.

LOL I like how you know for a fact they wouldn't have made the SB. Again that in no way proves that they weren't a good team. Just because they didn't play them doesn't mean they wouldn't have beaten them. I mean those other 3 division winners were such great teams they couldn't even make it to the NFC Championship game. The Seahawks obviously beat a team which had knocked off 1 or 2 of those division winners.

I'm no Seahawks fan but your arguments are presumptive and don't prove anything. That you don't think the Hawks are a good team is fine but you're clutching at straws trying to back it up.

  11. So, we'll agree that the Hawks weren't knocked out of the Wild Card playoffs 2 out of the past 4 years. But WERE 2 out of the past four years as well.

SOS matters. Whether you like it or not, to objective NFL fans, it matters. Until / Unless they devise a plan where everybody plays everybody else, it's about the only way to measure the relative strength of the competition a team faces versus their record. - In short, whether they deserve to be where they are.

For example, since Philly was too chicken to do so, I'll give you a head to head comparison of Seattle vs. NYG. Both have the exact same record at 9-4.

    • Yet SEA has already locked thier division (and maybe even a BYE?)
    • The Giants? May be lucky to even GET in the playoffs as a low-ranked wild-card
    • They're not going to win their division and they have the same record as SEA.
    • Seattle only had to play 3 games against winning teams to get their 9-4 record. The Giants? At least 7, perhaps as high as 10 before the season's over.
    • SEA's combined SOS? less than .400. NYG? Over .500.

It's not just a SEA thing, it's an NFL thing. The key is to get the best teams into the playoffs and the SB. The NYG have a much tougher challenge and STILL managed to have the same record as a team that has the easiest schedule in the league. That has to tell you something about one vs. the other. The fact that one team consistently gets into the playoffs - only after having been moved to the easiest division in the league is undisputable.

And that has an impact -

+ On deserving teams who don't get the free pass into the playoffs.

+ On the level of competition against teams who DO get into the playoffs.

+ And mostly on the game itself. When for the first time in history, a team gets to enjoy going to the Super Bowl without having so much as beaten a single division winning team, that's not good for the game, the fans or the league.

That is such a load of BS.

SOS in no way whatsoever is a judge of which team is better. You can only play who is on your schedule, who's to say the Seahawks wouldn't have the same record if they had played the Giants Schedule? I don't think many people would think the Giants are better than the Hawks.

Persoanally I don't think the Hawks are on the same level as DAL and GB but playing in a weak division and having a low SOS in no way proves that.

Also saying that they couldn't beat an 8-8 wildcard team in the Super Bowl is such a weak argument, that same 8-8 team had all ready knocked off supposedly the two best teams in the league on route to the SB.

  12. I was one of the early viewers to that. Of course, I haven't seen you post in a while Giants. Nice to see you. It was nice back then, some smack without the trolls to make it bad. I really miss those days. Nobody was post padding with crap, only valid opinions with a little smack.

 Yes those were the days

  13. Doesn't come as huge surprise to me, Trotter was ordinary last season. With his bad knees his mobility is no where near what it used to be, he was a huge liability in pass coverage and was a step slow in the run D. Teams had a lot of success running to the outside last season in large part because Trott couldn't move well enough to get out there in time.

He used to be a great player but is merely average now. Obviously the Eagles think Gaither is a better option at this point in time. Reid has a good track record of letting aging players go at the right time, off the top of my head Hugh Douglas, Troy Vincent, Bobby Taylor and Duce Staley all did nothing after leaving the Eagles despite a fan backlash at the time.

  14. Anyone who whines about the schedule or trying to equate a team's last year's finish to their current schedule strength is an idiot.

Other posters brilliantly put you down about the Raiders, so I'll talk about the Bears. They play in the crappy NFC North, play the AFC West, the NFC East, and the other two NFC divisional winners, Seattle and New Orleans. There's no "setup" and you play rotational divisions and then only two games are based on your last season record.

Exactly, every team plays 4 1st placed, 4 2nd placed, 4 3rd placed and 4 4th place teams from the year before.

  15. Stallworth, Patriots agree to deal

Free-agent receiver Donte' Stallworth has agreed to terms with the Patriots on a six-year contract believed to be worth a little more than $30 million, a league source tells ESPN.com's Michael Smith. The former Eagle also turned down the Dolphins and Titans.

  16. I always though Rattay looked like a decent QB when he was with the 9ers. He has a decent arm, makes quick decisions and seems in command of the offense. You would've though Chuckie would have given him a chance before tanking their season by going with a rookie.

He looks like a good start against the Browns this week to me.

  17. Bout Focking time! It's only taken 8 years for Reid to realize he sucks at play calling!

It was good to see some patience with the run game today instead of abandoning it after a couple of unsuccessful runs. I'm sure the D was glad to be off the field for more than 30 seconds at a time today.

  18. First timer, too.

Jets fans must be freaking out! Wonder if the ref did not have that angle on the replay? (He certainly did not have the special effects.)

A push out is a non-reviewable play. Still they should have got it right, looking at the replay there is absolutely no doubt what so ever that he was coming down in bounds.
