    Specific Draft Situation

Jimmy did very much what I expected, and even avoided the trappings of taking an unproven rookie QB, instead taking three guys who should contribute right now in Welker, Sproles and Richardson. That he added Witten was a nice selection, but his picking up of Harvin at that point was an absolute steal...very nicely done by a guy who decided not to keep anyone. As for your selection, I am puzzled and curious to hear why you decided to select Bradshaw there. IMO, for starters, the obvious strength of your team is RB and Qb, with two of the top 5/6 at both positions. You also have a single receiver rostered in Bryant, who, while rife with potential, is not a definite by any means. Secondly, forgetting about the state of your roster, taking a back who has been plagued by bad feet, has only had one "starter" worthy season in his five played (2010), and whose team used a first round pick on a running back seems to be a gamble that you may not have needed to take at that point. I am a big fan of the way Bradshaw runs (angry) but he scares the bejeezus out of me because of his frequent nagging injuries...so...what was the deciding factors for you in making the Bradshaw selection over say a Harvin or Maclin?

    Ranking the top TEs

Interesting...was thinking that I would put them behind Calvin, Fitz and Welker in ppr---I think Roddy starts to lose some of the pie to Julio this season...

    Specific Draft Situation

Though it is hard to say with any real temerity without knowing the ins and outs of your league, I would imagine that swinging for the fences on at least one of the top rookies seems highly likely for the guy with picks 1-3...that would be Richardson by most accounts. Then, I would also imagine that he would be looking to pick up a "right now" contributor, with Welker being the top option of the guys you listed. I think the third pick will depend on his level of trust in either of the the top two rookie QBs (RGIII/Luck)---if he is sold on one of them, then I think those are his three picks. If not, I imagine he would look at Harvin or Big Ben in that spot...For you in the four slot, I would be looking at Welker and Harvin if either get by him (I also like Maclin 2A to Harvins' 2)...The other option I would explore if I was in your position would be to trade Brees (gasp, I know!) for a top flight receiver (and a pick or a second tier receiver as well) that is being kept by someone else...You have the future in Cam and could probably snag a king's ransom for Brees because, well, he's freaking Drew Brees. The Saints turmoil and his lingering contract issues have me believing that now is the time to sell, especially since you have such a stud behind him to fall back on. Good luck!

    Let's Talk Oakland WRs

Agree with the poster who is predicting a potentially high powered offense---if things all fall into place. Which, unfortunately, is a big if considering the track record of the guys who will need to stay healthy for that to happen. BUT, if we assume that McFadden, Palmer and the receiving corps remain intact, I think this is an offense with a lot of value to be had. McFadden is a beast and potentially the most explosive back in the league in both facets of the game, which is why he is a borderline first rounder even with his injury baggage. DHB is a guy who may have finally put things together and I could envision a 75-1050-7 type of year for him. He would probably be my pick of the receivers to be the most consistent week to week. I see Moore in the mold of Desean Jackson to DHB's Maclin---will explode a few times this year, but may be inconsistent week to week...something like 60-1020-6 could be a reasonable expectation if all falls into place. I think Ford and Murphy will be too inconsistent to play in other than a huge pinch, but both have some upside (Ford with the HR potential, Murphy as a potential PPR spot start). And Palmer, with this group of (assuming) healthy talent around him, could make for an intriguing backup with upside. Will be interesting to see if they all remain upright in the pre-season long enough to discuss gambling on this offense for some value picks...

    STL Wrs

I like a heathy Clayton to be the most productive STL wideout...Avery should stretch the field and have the occasional big game, but I like the history and chemistry that Clayton and Bradford have----In the short time that Clayton had while healthy, Bradford locked in on him, with Clayton averaging over 5-70-.5 per game in his four games. I think Bradford's comfort level with Clayton will lead to a solid, top 25 season for the former Sooner...

Darren McFadden in the 1st Round...really?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYmj2NGjBnw Speed, power and explosion...This could be the start of something big. Injury concern? Probably...Talent to be the top Rb in football---looks like it. Other than maybe CJ and AP, who else has these tools?
  7. Marshall Faulk Priest Holmes Ladainian Tomlinson In the last ten years or so...it can and does happen.

Darren McFadden in the 1st Round...really?

As a PPR McFadden owner last season, I can say that his injury concerns are the only reason that he isn't a lock first rounder---in fact, looking from a production standpoint, McFadden was both higher scoring and more consistent week to week than Jamaal Charles (who is generally being mentioned after the Foster/Peterson/CJ trio)---he had only 1 game that would be considered a fantasy bust game (against the Steelers no less)---once again, however, Charles played every week while McFadden missed time, highlighting McFadden's injury factor. Having followed Run DMC his whole career, the lightbulb definitely went on for him last season---and he even has upside for bigger things if he can play 16 games and lock down goal line duties. Definitely a high risk/high reward type early pick---but, as an owner who survived a week 14 playoff game (and went on to win the title) behind Run DMC's ridiculous game against the Jaguars (200+ total yards, 3 longs tds), I would certainly consider taking a shot on a 24 year old horse who seems to be hitting his stride...

    Jimmy Smith

On the biggest night of his young life, Mr. Smith decided that the attire he would wear during his one shining moment would be a Godfather two t-shirt with Michael kissing Fredo...If that doesn't scream issues, I am not sure what does. Stay classy, Jimmy!

Jets WR situation - pre draft

I agree about Holmes' upside potential as a true number one---and also think he will end up in green and white. But, I think I like him a whole lot more if Edwards goes elsewhere, allowing Santonio to be the Jets true primary passing game focus, with a bit of Keller and Smith/Cotchery thrown in to keep defenses honest. He will certainly be a guy to target if it is clear that he is the show in NY...

    Who is Chad Spann?

Very impressive highlight video---his running style reminds me of MJD more than Rice or Bradshaw...Begs the question, tho---why no combine invite? And what are the negatives that will lead to him going undrafted? Size, maybe, I suppose, but what else?

Jordy Nelson ... Patrick Jeffers or Edddie Mac

Jordy Nelson will be fighting for scraps next season with James Jones---I envision real similar numbers to what he posted this season....something like 50-550-a few tds. Not only do I think Jennings will continue to dominate the targets, and not only do I think that Driver/JJones will cut into Jordy's chances, but don't forget that the Packers #2 (or 1B to Jennings 1A on the right weeks) receiver will be back in the form of the freak, Jermichael Finley...A healthy Jermichael negates any decline in production from Driver...

Using the Stud WR theory next season.

Maybe not a good YEAR...but, not a single receiver was more valuable when the money was being made, weeks 15 and 16---12 catches, 145 yards and 3 tds...threw in a solid 4-101-1 line for this guys still needing to finish the job in week 17...

Looking Ahead to FF Redrafts: 2011

It is really hard to speculate on an overall top 12, since the scoring rules in each individual league play a huge factor when ranking guys. If we are talking ppr, a guy like McCoy gets a big bump over a guy like Turner and so on...that said, here is my top 5 at each position, assuming ppr... Qb: Vick Rodgers Brees Brady Manning --Looks to be a really deep group next season, with guys like Rivers, Romo, Eli, Ryan, Schaub etc providing good value for those who decide to wait Rb: Foster Johnson Peterson Charles McCoy ---Again, alot of talent here with Rice, McFadden, Hillis, Gore, MJD and Forte all potentially big point-getters in PPR WR: Andre Roddy Calvin Jennings Nicks ---Nicks may be a surprise here, but is a guy clearly on the upswing... Will probably change quite a bit before next September...

    Dwayne Bowe!

Preliminarily, I think Bowe will fall somewhere in the middle of the second tier of receivers heading into drafts next season. Tier one will likely be Roddy White and Andre Johnson. Calvin will either be at the bottom of tier one or the top of tier two. I could see Bowe going anywhere from 3rd receiver taken (though I am not sure I would trust him in that spot, but others might prefer him to Calvin?) to the 10th or 11th guy taken...People may prefer the proven track record of a Colston, Jennings, Wayne or Fitzgerald over him. Others might also prefer the upside of a Hakeem Nicks or even Desean Jackson over him. Personally, I would put Bowe 6th, after White, Andre, Calvin, Jennings, and Nicks...young with alot of upside, but also in a run heavy scheme...

    Pro Bowl Rosters

Agree with most of the guys named as snubs, but most of them were less snubs and more "they play at loaded positions"...especially true with the backs and receivers named. Desean Jackson is the only one of the 14 named Pro Bowl Wr/Rbs that I could make an argument against, and his big plays are hard to ignore...

    Year end Scrooge thread

Randy Moss---straight coal homey. You suck and are a terrible person. I have only owned you during the seasons you have sucked. Go away...I think you will after this debacle of a season. Deangelo Williams- way to step up in the last year of your contract. 14-50 every week until you got hurt was not what I would call ballin. These were two of my first three picks in my ppr league (Calvin was the other). Despite these two assclowns, Jamaal Charles in the fourth, Darren McFadden in the 14th and a cobbled together team of waiver wire pieces (Tamme, Manningham, Blount) has me in the championship in spite of my .333 success rate in the first three rounds. You two jackwipes will not be invited to the ring presentation ceremony when my team takes the title...

Mendhenhall Owners: Do you expect a huge game?

It is less moronic if you take into account what a huge game might mean to some people...For you and the league you play in, the yardage totals above may represent a huge game (though I am not sure that a game under 150 yards qualifies as huge...very good, yes, but huge?)---but, for many, Mendenhall has been consistently good but not huge. In most leagues, huge is McFadden going for 210 total yards and 3 tds. Or Foster going for 231 and 3. Mendenhall has stayed injury free and productive all season---that makes him very valuable. But, he also has only had multiple tds once all year, and a total of four 100 yard rushing days. He has had more games with less than 70 yards rushing (6) than he has 100 yard games (4). So, has he been good? Sure. And should he be good this week? Probably. But, what in his body of work this season would make anyone think it moronic to question the original posters subject of whether to expect something huge from him this week? Maybe "Hot topics" has the answer...

    Randy Moss

PPR league with transactions done prior to week 13...cutting his sorry azz for Mike Thomas and praying that some jamoke in my league picks him up next week...Randy is Torry Holt, circa 2008...the cliff came hard and fast---don't be the guy left trying to hold on to the rock falling over the edge just because the rock is named Randy Moss...didn't produce with Brady (and the coaching staff was obviously ok with letting him go), didn't produce with Favre, didn't produce with Young or Collins...try to convince me that the Randy's fountain of youth lies with some guy called Rusty...

Randy Moss @ Miami this week.....

I think the fact that it is Moss' first game in Tenn and that they have had almost two weeks to prepare could bode well for a decent outing from Randy...I think Fisher is smart enough and has coached long enough to "get" that the best way to make Moss a relevant threat and a dangerous part of the offense is to get him the ball early. I foresee Moss catching 2 or 3 quick ones on the first drive...nothing deep, just a couple of ten yard patterns to get him in the flow of the offense---I think we will then see some more traditional Randy play calls, with one or two play action deep balls thrown his way. I predict 4-6 catches no matter what---worst case, 4-50 and maybe a short Td...best case, 6-110 and a long Td...With Tenn being in the playoff hunt, a coach that has the respect of players around the league and knows how to handle "superstars" and the knowledge that a happy Randy is a dangerous Randy all lead me to believe that Randy will have a decent/good first outing with the Titans---not necessarily the numbers he was drafted for, but definitely "startable" numbers from Randy this week. Also, probably wishful thinking because I have to choose between him and Davone Bess this week But, it makes sense to me on paper!!!!
