    B. Jackson status?

I agree that Woodhead isn't the greatest option to replace him with, but, I do think that Jackson is probably cut bait at this point...I am assuming Torain, MBush, and Fred Jackson (and that ilk) are gone?

    An embarrassment of riches?

Thanks for the input...was thinking that as well this week, but am somewhat concerned with the "adjustment" period for Moss...and with the Jets and Revis up against him...

    Dude just dropped J. Stewart

He is probably best described as a guy who is droppable if you need to pick up some help right now (Torain, maybe Michael Bush for McFadden owners), but is definitely a guy that would be nice to have the roster spot available for so you could sit on him until later in the year...If there are no injuries to DWIll, I don't necessarily see things getting good enough for him to be worth stashing...but..an injury to Williams would instantly make him a startable back with upside...so, I guess it depends?

Vikings "very close" to acquiring Randy Moss?

Agree with this and would add a couple of other points to it... In NE, Moss had become a deep pattern and red zone threat exclusively, because that was what they needed him to be...His presence on the field opened things up for the other guys, meaning short dumps to Welker, Hernandez and the backs if Brady wasn't taking a shot at him (which he wasn't on the majority of NE's passing plays so far)...Catches were not overly consequential if his presence opened up things for other guys to make plays...Brady, like Brees, is perfectly content to move the ball by throwing to whoever the defense dictates he should throw to and is not a guy who force feeds a receiver---Welker's high volume of catchers is less about Brady force feeding and more about the fact that defenses tended to give up the underneath stuff in exchange for not getting beat deep...With Favre, Moss goes to team with a guy who has a proven track record of feeding his top guys the ball, regardless of matchup or scheme---going all the way back to his GB days, Favre has typically locked onto one guy as his top threat, with the secondary guys fighting for the scraps that were left---Robert Brooks, Antonio Freeman, Javon Walker and Sidney Rice last year---all examples of Favre making fantasy studs out of guys by feeding them the ball...With teams forced to scheme for Peterson, I can't imagine Moss' ceiling being any lower than what Sidney Rice was able to do in this offense last season...A desperate to win now Favre and a motivated to get paid, chip on his shoulder Randy could equal a huge 12 weeks of fantasy numbers in Minnesota...These are arguably two of the all-time best to play at their position teaming up with a good mix of weapons (AP, Harvin, Shiancoe) around them...I wouldn't bet against it...

How to encourage others to trade?

Many have said a variation of this point, but, the key to any good trade is making it as close to a win-win as possible...Too often, guys offer up garbage guys from their team in exchange for an obviously better player on the other side---not only does this offer almost always get rejected, the other owner now has a bad taste in his mouth when it comes to dealing with you in the future...these offers create further distrust in relationships that are, by the nature of competing against these owners with money on the line, already on shaky ground when it comes to wanting to work together. Instead, find the weak spot on another roster that is an area of strength on your team and offer up a player from your strength that will improve the other team while also improving your area of weakness...These deals have a two-fold effect---you improve your own team while only losing some depth, and you lay the foundation for dealing again with this owner in the future---In a league that has the same owners year to year, the long term benefits of building relationships with prospective trade partners is great enough to give up a little more than you might otherwise in a trade today to foster a trading partnership that you may need tomorrow...

I play the only 3-0 team in my league week 9

If the Mayans were right (which they always are) but were just off by some hundreds of days, there won't even BE a week nine to win...so you are wrong...it will obviously be a tie on account of no more world.

    Ahmad Bradshaw vs Bears Outlook

I think that, given the admittedly small sample size by which to judge Chicago's defense, Bradshaw could face a tough time finding room to run tonight against the Bears...A short Td run is certainly a real possibility (3 tds inside the ten given up by Chicago, with a fourth, one yard play action pass td from the one yard line by Dallas), but, I tend to think that the Giants are going to need to throw the ball to beat the Bears---the positive with Bradshaw, though, is that he could be a factor in the passing game as well, so, his total yardage should be respectable---he has produced well enough that he should probably be in most lineups, but, I would temper my expectations of a big game if I had him... Which means he will probably run for a buck fifty and two tds...which is what makes this game so much fun!

    Paradise Picks: Week 4

I like the Henne and Bess selections, for all of the reasons you stated---NE should score some points and, when Miami looks to pass, Belichick will likely scheme to stop Marshall (whether they do or not is another discussion), leaving Bess as a solid check down option for Henne---in ppr leagues, I agree that he could be a good Wr3 with something like 7-70 a real possibility... Also like the Murphy pick, since the Raiders will have to throw---could be in line for 4 or 5 grabs in garbage time alone if the injury is nothing serious... Brown, not so much---he isn't playing...Mike Hart should receive the non-Addai carries, but, wouldn't trust him in my lineup And Williams, while a possibility by virtue of starting opposite Fitz today, would scare the heck out of me if I had to plug him in my lineup...

    DeAngelo Williams Contract Situation

Deangelo has always been a slow starter throughout his career...Depending on how he does today against NO, his start this season is very much in line with just about every year he has been in the NFL---he's never run for over 100 yards before week 5 and has scored a total of 5 Tds in weeks 1-4 in his four years prior to this one...his monster 2008 season saw him start the year off even worse (if that is possible) than he has so far this season...There is a whole lot of season left and, while the offensive struggles of Carolina look like they could linger all year, I imagine that Carolina will see how the season unfolds before deciding on whether or not to let Dwill walk next year...they have to consider that this is a guy who is currently 16 games removed from a 1500 yards rushing, 20 TD season...It may make sense for them financially to not re-up with him next season, but, it will be a much more difficult decision if he ends up putting up numbers in his next 13 games that rival his last two seasons... Deangelo owner grasping at straws over here

    Things We've Learned

...In fact, I would classify all four of these under the heading "Things we know we know in September but seem to have a way of forgetting in the summer---Calvin, Deangelo and Kolb drafter here....

    DEN WR Situation

Denver's use of receivers and passing game as a whole is best described as the poor man's Saints...Orton playing the Brees role of accurate, spread the ball around, take what the defense gives you Qb---Gaffney in the role of ostensible #1 receiver, who has some high volume games followed by some games where he disappears completely (sound familiar Colston owners?)...Royal in the shifty slot guy role, played to up and down results week to week by Lance Moore in New Orleans...Lloyd is the Devery Henderson deep threat, while Thomas is the highly touted draft pick with all of the physical talent to be the number 1, much like Meachem has been the past three seasons---Bottom line? You can't feel overly confident starting ANY of them, as they are all just as likely to have a 2 or 3 catch game as they are to have a 8 or 9 catch game---After watching the games McDaniels played last season with his receivers, I am looking elsewhere...Plan to drop Thomas in a Wr/Te combined PPR for Keller...

    Randy Moss

I think your concern is based on sheer numbers alone without looking a bit closer at what the Pats have been doing with Randy and how the games have been unfolding---a sub-par 5-59 line for Moss during the week 1 blowout over the Bengals (which saw the Pats take a 31-3 lead very early in the third quarter and basically abandon any effort to move the ball down the field through the air in the second half---Randy was 4-50 in the first half when the Pats were still throwing)...A week 2 game where he got open against arguably the best corner in football and made the TD catch of the year so far---while he and the entire Pats offense got stymied in the second half, Brady took numerous shots down field for Randy, they just didn't connect---In week 3, his two catches were Tds and both were designed specifically to get him the ball in the endzone---he converted on both. So, after three weeks, we have an uber-talented receiver being showcased when the Pats are looking to score through the air, both from long and short range, while not catching alot of balls---If you make even the slightest leap of faith that the catches and yards will be there come the end of the year, Randy's start should have you excited for his next 13 games more than worried about what fast starting flavor of the month you can move him for---Straight cash homey

    Colston

Colston is as frustrating a guy to own as any receiver in the game outside of Greg Jennings...He has seemingly every ingredient in place to put up monster numbers (talent, great offense, great Qb, red zone size, weapons around him to keep the D honest), yet consistently puts up complete clunkers over the course of the season. Brees spreads the ball around too much and doesn't make any effort to "feed" any one receiver on the team, meaning that Colston's success week to week has much more to do with the looks the defense gives Brees than it does with any concerted effort the team makes to get him the ball. Sure, he will have the occasional big line (think 8-92-2), but, he will also give you the 3-36 week killer about 5-6 times a year as well---if I were looking to upgrade an already weak Wr unit, I would target a guy who provides more consistency than you will get from Colston---

    dwill

I second this and then some...Williams looked quick, decisive and had a couple of runs where he got loose in the secondary---The coaches and the play calling were just brutal today---Williams would make a nice run and then be off the field for the next ten minutes, the defense got them a turnover in the red zone and they decide to throw on first down instead of pounding it with Dwill (resulting in a pick)---just brutal...On top of all of that, they had something called a Goodson on the field for most of the fourth quarter, catching screen passes and dump offs as they were playing catch up---can anyone explain why you would not have your most dynamic Rb on the field (or, at the very least, his extremely talented backup Stewart) if you are going to be calling plays that put the ball in your back's hands in space? Instead, Foxtard had Goodson on the field while Deangelo stood on the sideline with his thumb up his azz....It was like he channeled his inner-Todd Haley...The biggest problem now is that Deangelo is almost a must-hold, since you will get bent over if you try to move him...This could be ugly all year...

    DeAngelo Williams

Deangelo has now made a habit of getting out of the gates slowly...He has never run for more than 100 yards prior to week 5 in his career and has scored a total of 2 tds in weeks 1-4 in his previous 4 seasons...Even looking back to his huge 2008 season, he didn't really get rolling that year until game 8, having just 1 100 yard game and four total tds in his first seven games before exploding for 16 tds and 7 100 yard games in his last nine...patience is the key with him---you are better off riding him out for a few more weeks and then hope that he comes on strong in the later portion of the season...

What player is Vick worth in a trade?

I traded Vick and Moreno for Romo and Spiller...league scoring is based on hitting 70 yards rushing and 200 passing as minimum thresholds for points...Vick kills in this format when he has a game of 185 passing and 60 rushing---

All three guys sorta stink...In reverse order of stink, I'd put them Jackson Titles Greene Forsett...When in doubt, play the one whose uniform is your favorite color.

    Andy Reid is a moron

I understand your take and agree that, in a best case scenario, Reid would have handled things differently...But, at the same time, could he (or anyone really) have expected for Vick to step in and play as well as he has through 1 and a half games? And, isn't it reasonable to assume that, since Kolb was the annointed one coming out of the summer, that he would immediately defend his position and what he thought was the future of the franchise (which is potentially why he made the comments he did on Monday)? My point isn't to say that Reid has handled this situation flawlessly---just the opposite in fact. But, at the same time, doesn't it speak, at least somewhat, to his leadership to recognize that new information (Vick playing "out of his mind") has been presented and processed and to have the fortitude to make a decision that, while potentially the right one, would lead to some short term questioning of the very leadership it takes to make a call like this? Now, if Vick comes out and craps the bed the next couple of weeks, I think that Reid is swimming without a life vest, especially if he flops back to Kolb...But in the meantime, I am a fan of the fact that he made what appears to be the right decision for the team right now and didn't just stubbornly stick with a decision based on old information and pride...

    Andy Reid is a moron

I think it was Jason Whitlock from Fox who had an interesting take on Reid that I tend to agree with---Instead of everyone bashing Reid for being indecisive, shouldn't he instead be lauded for not pig-headedly sticking by Kolb? Too often, leaders in all walks of life fail to adjust when the bullets start flying due to ego or fear of looking weak by admitting a tactical mistake. Everyone knows that Reid had a tremendous amount of faith and invested quite a bit of his professional credibility on the fact that Kolb could be the new franchise...the easiest move for him would have been to stick with that in the face of all evidence pointing to Vick being the better option moving forward. Instead, as all great leaders do, he recognized that his strategic plan could be improved by shifting gears on the fly, even if that meant a short term chance for some haters to bash him for being indecisive or wishy-washy...It was the right move to insert Vick as the starter and it was the right move for Reid to recognize the need to move away from his own pet project for the greater good of the franchise...

    Gates Stock

Very sound observation---as a Gates owner, the only real concern I have is exactly what you pointed out, that teams will roll an extra man to Gates...I still think he will get his on the underneath stuff, but expect a few weeks of Nanee and Floyd being the primary targets for SD... I would hold pat with Finley and Jackson for now and maybe look to upgrade elsewhere...

    Andre Johnson

And, for the record, starting a thread called Andre Johnson with a statement of "hope he is not double teamed all day" and ending it with a curvy backbone pooping (known to most as a question mark and used exclusively after questions) probably should have confirmed whatever thoughts you may have had regarding your intelligence... Will teh Andre Giant have a good gaym? I shur hop so!!!

Too many choices ever a BAD thing?

I have definitely felt this same way, and it is usually when you have a group of guys who are ranked right around each other as the season progresses...What I typically try to do in these cases is to choose which of my guys I like most to produce over the long haul, and then move the remaining guy or guys in a trade to upgrade at an area where I am weaker---this usually results in good deals, since you end up trading a guy who has good value at a position of strength for an equally solid option at a position of lesser strength----good luck...

    Andre Johnson

Seriously? You went to the trouble of starting a thread titled "Andre Johnson" and then state that you hope he isn't double covered all day? Well, on the off chance you are not trolling, let me respond with this: He will be double covered much of the game, on account of him being Andre Freakin Johnson. He will still get his numbers as long as the Texans throw the ball, but, yes, he will be double covered... Now, in case you are trolling, let me add some equally conversation inspiring questions to this thread: Will Pittsburgh try to stop Chris Johnson? Will the Giants try to pressure Peyton Manning? Will God and Buddha punk the world and reveal themselves as the same person? Will back hair ever be considered hot? Will two in the one hole and one in the two hole ever make sense to gay men? Discuss...

    Now with Grant gone

Not sure how you are so thin at Rb, but I have to assume it is because you landed a stud Qb and a stud (or two or three) wr...That being the assumption, Ahmad Bradshaw would immediately become your best Rb this week, while giving up a player who won't see the field for at least three more weeks and who will likely be playing in an unfamiliar offense that may take some time to get accustomed to---I think you take this deal and move on---you will still likely need to shore up your backfield, since neither Harrison nor Jackson are sure bets as every week plays...

Need a little league help here

I think you all should gather back at your buddy's hotel (is he Chris Makepeace from "My Bodyguard"?...would be cool if he is!) and have the two owners disputing ownership of Jackson oil up and wrestle for him---winner not only gets to input Jackson on their roster, but they also get to input "johnson" in the losers' empty slot...Best of luck and let me know if you use my idea!
