First off, congrats to the 2023 National Champ UCONN Huskies. What a great team that made a great run. I'm assuming this thread will die off and come back closer to fall, but would be interested to hear what everyone thinks of the impact we have now seen over the course of a couple years of NIL and the transfer portal. I guess we should have seen the writing on the wall, but what the heck is the NBA league minimum?... Well i looked and it's $953k per year. A deal like this would be a game changer and would really hurt smaller schools and favor the schools with more money to offer...right? They are going to have to make the transfer portal more restrictive somehow, I think. It's all just kind of out of control and needs some modification, in my opinion.

    Calipari the scumbag

John Calipari is finalizing a five-year deal to become the next men's basketball coach at Arkansas, sources told ESPN on Sunday night, a blockbuster move that will shake up the SEC and college basketball landscape. Calipari's contract is expected to have an overall base salary of slightly less than the $8.5 million he's making at Kentucky, sources told ESPN. However, the deal is expected to be incentive-laden with the ability to pass that number. The contract is expected to be completed in the next 24 hours. The key relationship to help the deal come together was Calipari's long-standing ties to John H. Tyson, a billionaire who is a longtime Arkansas benefactor. Calipari is set to replace Eric Musselman, who left for USC last week. After his departure, Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek pursued Ole Miss' Chris Beard and Kansas State's Jerome Tang, although both coaches returned to their respective schools. Arkansas is believed to have offered Beard in the neighborhood of $5 million per year, sources said. Calipari has been under more pressure at Kentucky than at any other time during his 15-season tenure, as the Wildcats haven't been out of the first weekend of the NCAA tournament since 2019 and suffered upset losses to 15-seed Saint Peter's and 14-seed Oakland in recent years. Following the first-round defeat to Oakland, there was enough speculation about Calipari's job status that athletic director Mitch Barnhart released a statement confirming Calipari would return as the Wildcats' head coach next season. Kentucky would have owed Calipari more than $33 million if it were to fire him, but the school isn't owed any money if another program hires him. One of the biggest names in college sports, Calipari has been at Kentucky since 2009. He led the Wildcats to the national title in 2012 and went to four Final Fours in his first six seasons in Lexington. Kentucky then went to the Elite Eight in 2017 and 2019 but has won just one NCAA tournament game since that last run to the regional final. Off the court, Calipari established the Wildcats as a recruiting powerhouse, routinely landing top-ranked recruiting classes. Calipari is 410-123 with the Wildcats. Before taking over for Billy Gillispie at Kentucky in 2009, Calipari was the head coach at Memphis for nine seasons. He led the Tigers to two Elite Eights and reached the national championship game in 2008, where they lost to Kansas in overtime. Calipari also led UMass to the Final Four in 1996 before leaving for the NBA and coaching the New Jersey Nets for three seasons. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39897887/sources-john-calipari-finalizing-5-year-deal-arkansas

What's everyone doing for the eclipse?

How can we find out what time is optimal locally?
  17. I disagree with this premise. Back in the day this place was great because people knew a lot about their local teams. And I like hearing from the fans who really know what's going on in the world of sports. Like if HT is seriously trying to compete in competitive leagues, who knows better about a team's closer situation than guys here who are paying attention to that team?

Is anybody following the royals and chiefs stadium fiasco? Frank White, the one whose number is on the outfield wall along with Brett and Hoswer has done all he can to thwart the royals attempt to move to a new downtown baseball stadium. He's Jackson County executive, and the taxpayers of Jackson County just had to vote to continue the same tax levy they've been paying for years and they got new downtown ballpark and entertainment district and some suites and entertainment & hospitality upgrades and better traffic flow for the Chiefs at Arrowhead. The tax continuation failed and now there's talks about the Chiefs and/or Royals moving to a different county, different state (omg out by the Kansas speedway) or royals to Nashville or somewhere else and the Dallas mayor tweeting out he would welcome the Chiefs moving back to Dallas. And the royals owners wife running her mouth on Facebook that Jackson County officials have killed any chance of the royals and chiefs staying where they are. To Kansas would shorten my drive about 10 or 15 minutes
  19. it wasn't anywhere close. looked like me playing 5th grade throwing up garbage
  20. In 2017 we were getting totality, and were one of the largest cities along the path in terms of hotels and accomodations. So much hype, and then it was cloudy all day. Just a normal overcast, kinda rainy day, everyone in their driveways with their cool glasses and all we saw was it go dark for a few moments and the street lights turnt up.
