Would you guys veto this trade?

Yeah, I think perhaps you totally missed my thesis. The premise of my post was that you ONLY VETO WHEN THERE IS COLLUSION. You continue to argue that people should veto on the grounds of league competitiveness and I don't support that opinion. I don't think the commissioner, and certainly not the league, should be allowed to determine the balance of a trade. The league should be protected from collusion but that's it. At the heart of this matter is the caliber of owners in a league. If you truly want to be in a competitive league you need to build one around people who know how to be competitive. We booted an owner out of our league because he made some highly questionable trades and then proceeded to mismanage his roster (not sitting people on their BYE). Nobody pissed and moaned and cried about how "unfair" it was. We just told him at the end of the season that we wanted a competitive league and invited him to be a co-manager of another team. Problem solved. Finally, trading is super fun. People in my league generally agree that no one want's "blood on the trophy". People don't try to screw other people over. But are there trades that go in one teams favor? Sure! All the time. The alternative sounds a lot like Big Brother. No thanks.

To clarify, collusion is when two parties secretly agree to an arrangement with the intent to defraud, or appear as adversaries. Being a noob or being manipulated or not being able to make the playoffs or being best friends ... these aren't definitive aspects of collusion. Collusion is ridiculously hard to prove and short of something moronic like AP for Neil Rackers, you basically have to have an admission to know for sure. So let's stop calling this and most other "bad trades" collusion. If your league wants to give the right to veto "bad trades", then so be it ... but don't pretend that you're fighting collusion. You're just don't like some people getting what you think is a good deal. If you want a competitive league, you weed out the doofuses that make these kinds of trades. Simple enough.

This is all crazy talk. Does the NFL evaluate a trade to ensure that it's "fair" for both teams? The idea that people think they are the definitive evaluator of talent is mind boggling. Your opinion of one player isn't shared by everyone. Maybe this guy LOVES Buckhalter. Maybe he HATES Smith. Why does the commissioner get to sit on a throne and dictate a players value? For the record, I wouldn't trade away S.Smith for Buckhalter. I'm a commissioner of my league and I work hard to make sure my league stays competitive. We urge people to post players onto the trading board so the entire league knows who's for sale. We've even wagged our finger at teams when it looks like they're taking advantage. But you have to let people do what they want ... UNLESS it's collusion. On paper, collusion and stupidity can look like the same thing. And determining whether there's collusion almost never has anything to do with the players traded and everything to do with team behavior and inter-team relationships. Is the Smith owner not setting his lineup? Is he not actively trying to make his team better (ie, dropping Laurent Robinson for a waiver pickup)? Are the two owners best friends and there has been chatter of stacking one team? Is the Smith owner seeking out the rest of the league to see what he can get for Smith? What does each team have in the way of WR's and RB's? Does the Smith owner have Moreno? These questions reveal way more than whether Smith>>Buckhalter.

    Collusion or Idiot

If only Sketch would infer or hint at some odd aspect of his life, this thread could become epic. Usually it's some quirky (if not fictional) relation to a middling NFL player but it could be as simple as what city he's from. We just need something we can hone in on here. Let's see if I can sniff it out ... Sketch, please fill out this short questionaire: 1) Has Wade Phillips ever visited you in the hospital? If so, what inspirational words did he give that you follow today with your fantasy team? 2) Do you live in a small town known for anything embarrassing or stereotypical? 3) Can you provide a link to your myspace page? Extra credit for a Friendster page. 4) Which of the following NFL linebackers did you have an inadvisable, perhaps erotic, encounter with as a youth: A.) Mike Vrabel B.) Dat Ngyuen C.) Ray Nitschke 5) Do you eat oysters? Do you eat snails? 6) Favorite movie? The FFToday community thanks you in advance for your cooperation. And for gawds sakes, don't let these b@stards drag you down.

    Help me evaluate this trade.

Team B got the better deal (whoever got VJax and 85). But it's fair to hope for a huge bounce back by Westy. Fair trade, especially in a non-PPR.

This guy can't be real. Nobody comes onto a bored with 34 posts, makes a jacka$$ of himself and then tries to throw down when he gets pwned. The kicker is the email address. Nobody is this stupid. Gotta be a fishing expedition. Just in case ... I'm gonna repost his email addy for everyone for when he deletes it. www.bcl625@hotmail.com

Lets talk Mendenhall for week 4

I was just on a Steelers message board. A lot of hate for Mendenhall, but I think that's to be expected from homers after the high draft pick and low results (and embarrassing himself and the team against Baltimore last year). That being said, there was literally no discussion about Moore. Granted, this is a non-fantasy board but it certainly felt like the consensus was that Mendenhall would get the rock. This is a totally unscientific analysis, just thought I'd provide a different perspective on the debate.

    Calling all McGahee owners

Ravens have had the good fortune of playing Cleveland, Kansas City and a roughed up Chargers defense. None of which have (IMHO) a good run defense. I think the Ravens' matchups are going to be hit or miss the rest of the season. They've got to play the Bengals and the Steelers twice - both with very good run defenses. They also have to play New England, Denver, Minnesota and Chicago who will be stiff against the run. That being said, they also get to play Indianapolis, the Lions, the Packers, Oakland and Cleveland again ... and those teams vary from being mediocre to terrible against the run. Personally, I sold McGahee/Walter last week for Boldin. I think McGahee's value won't ever be higher than right now. If Rice were to have a big game, or McClain started getting some more goal line carries I think Willis' value would drop quickly. His stats right now are off the charts (against terrible defenses) but I expect him to come down to earth after his next three matchups ... @NE, CIN, @MIN. And let's not even discuss those knees ...

    Darren McFadden...Time to jump ship?

You managed to fit an Obama reference into a Darren MacFadden thread seamlessly. Makes total sense.

    Darren McFadden...Time to jump ship?

It will surprise most people when you tell them that the Raiders were the 10th best rushing team in the NFL last year in total rushing yards ... but not so surprising they were the 28th in rushing TD's. If DMC can get the lion's share of carries this year he probably ends up as someone you should keep and spot start in flex positions per matchups.

Isnt it time to call Vinny Jackson a tier 1 reciever?

Chargers were the 22nd overall defense last year and 7th best passing offense. Rivers was the 2nd highest scoring QB in my league last year. Not sure things have changed dramatically from last year in those regards. The biggest change has been a reduced number of touches for LT2. It's also VJ's contract year. Those are significant differences. I would also add that, even some of the best WR's take 3-4 years to really break out (ie. Wayne). That being said, it's only three weeks. But even the best WR's don't pull down 8 catches for 120 yards and a TD every week so expectations should be realistic.

Isnt it time to call Vinny Jackson a tier 1 reciever?

CONTRACT YEAR + LT2 in major decline + Gates/Chambers not stealing the most looks + Favorable schedule = A big bump in 2009 VJ production over 2008.

    DeSean Jackson.......going off...........

Drafted him in the 13th last year. Drafted him in the 5th this year.

    The Perfect Draft

I was wondering what the ideal draft would have been, after looking at the scores of the first two weeks, and this is what I came up with in my competitive 10 team PPR league. Assuming all the keepers in my league were not available (like Chris Johnson) I slotted the best player from the previous round one round higher and it came out a little like this ... 1 - Frank Gore 63.20 (RB1) 2 – Drew Brees 76.66 (QB1) 3 - Vincent Jackson 42.70 (WR3) 4 - Santonio Holmes 41.40 (WR4) 5 - Tony Gonzalez 38.50 (WR5) 6 - Cedric Benson 34.90 (RB5) 7 – Joe Flacco 47.98 (QB2) 8 - Sproles 45.60 (RB5 Keeper) 9 – Take a Nap 10 - Fred Jackson 47.80 (RB2) 11 - Willis McGahee 46.40 (RB3) 12 – Lawrence Tynes 30 (K) 13 - Tim Hightower 43.00 (RB4) 14 - Philly D 39.00 (D) 15 - Steve Smith 43.40 (WR2) 16 - Manningham 45.80 (WR1) Essentially, anyone in my league could have drafted this roster regardless of draft position. And if they'd somehow had the nerve to start this lineup for two straight weeks ... Brees Gore/F.Jackson/McGahee Manningham/S.Smith(NYG)/V.Jackson Tynes Philly ... they would have scored almost twice as many points (437) as the highest scoring team in my league (282). I'm really curious who got the closest to drafting this lineup or who has inexplicably put up a ridiculous amount of points after two weeks (barring the clowns in non-competitive leagues who end up with four first rounders and five second rounders).
