  1. Very western MA....Pittsfield for 6 years, then east to north of Boston for 4 years.

    Ahh yes...

A long field goal try away from the New York state border. Yeah, I've been there once or twice. Had to go to Lanesborough for a company project.

  2.

BUT, those of use that grew up with the 70's, 80's , and early 90's teams remember a different NFL. We remember MONSTER teams filled with HOFers....you didnt beat them with cheesey calls or strange fumble recoveries...you beat them with REAL talent and extreme force.

Great post, however, strange things did happened back in the day.

    I just have one word.

    Snowplow.

I can only imagine the crap that would have been all over boards back then if the internet was more than just a smattering of dial up BBSs.

  3. Dude. I was 7 years old when I became a Steeler fan. I lived in western MA at the time (later moved to Boston) I was more likely to become a Giants fan then a Pats fan where I lived. But whatever.

Oh and by the way, from 1976-1980 the Pats were 50-26, so they weren't that weak when I became a Steeler fan. But you wouldn't know that, would you?

    :first:

Western Mass. Now we're talking my stomping grounds. Springfield / Holyoke area by any chance?

  4. Look down at my sig. I am a Patriots fan.

I have been one since the lates 70s. I grew up with Steve Grogan and Stanely Morgan. I remember the 1-15 season with Rod Rust. I lived through 'locker room-gate' with that dipshit lady reporter. I got psyched up for the Tuna Bowl battles with the Jets. Now I am enjoying the golden age of the Patriots. Don't hate us true homers, we've waited for this. The bandwagoners will leave us and join your team when its over. ESPN will slobbering all over knob of your quarterback and everyone will hate you.

Like I said in another thread. Hate the franchise all you want. That just means my team is on top. If they weren't they wouldn't be getting all the attention. Your hatred is a badge of glory that the Patriots have earned with some great coaching, good athleticism and yes I will say it, luck. Every winning team has combination of those three things.

And I will still love this team when it can be said, "Oh no, we suck again!" :bandana:

But that won't be for some time.

  5. The reason I brought up the Bears can't beat the Saints bit is because I have been more impressed with the Saints than the Bears in the last quarter of the season. The Saints have really come into their own. Reggie Bush is beginning to demonstrate the talent that he has. Colston and Brees are two very good talents who have hooked up all year. As for Grossman, you guys still don't know which Grossman will show up. Is it going to be QB who has his head screwed on right or not. The Bears D is still strong, but that has shown some signs of faltering and defense just isn't enough. The Ravens and Chargers both had strong defenses and they both lost. Overall I feel that the Saints have peaked at just the right time.

Now as to why that game 21 years ago is significant to Pats fans should be bloody obvious. That game was the first SuperBowl appearance by the Pats and they were humiliated. Tony Eason was a joke who should not have started that game. The Pats were just plain lucky to get as far as they did. However, they had so many organizational and coaching flaws that culminated in that ultimate humiliation. (Imagine the Detroit Lions in the SuperBowl, it was like that.). I grew up with those guys, they weren't always bad, sometimes they were horrible, yet they were still my team. Parcells, Kiam, Belichek and Kraft all turned the ship around. However, that legacy of a generally thought of hopeless team is still in the closet. A victory over the Bears in the SuperBowl would make the circuit complete. No its not McMahon, Peyton, Perry and the 46 Defense on the field, but their successors are on the field.

So Bears fan that is why I will be your biggest fan this weekend.

And people as a Pats fan I respect your animosty towards my team. It means they are the prime target, the evil empire and all that. I hated the 49ers back then, nothing different now.

  6. LT was pissed off because the Chargers lost. The ###### went both ways in that game, no team was clean. He took something that is rather common at the end of an emotional game and blew it totally out of proportion. He was a sore loser, end of story. I still respect his athletic ability, however we'll all know he just can't take losing with grace.

  7. Though it would be nice to finally bring justice to the evil done in days past I just don't see how the Bears beat the Saints. Although I am pulling for you Bears fan. We Pats fans have been waiting for this re-match for quite some time.

  8. how many 14-2 teams have you seen, dipshit.

    2005 Colts

    2004 Patriots

    2003 Patriots

    2001 Rams

    1999 Jaguars

    1998 Falcons

    1998 Broncos

    1992 49ers

    1991 Redskins

    1990 49ers

    1989 49ers

    1986 Bears

    1986 Giants

    1984 Dolphins

    1983 Redskins

    1978 Steelers

1977 The season is only 14 games which makes it difficult to get to 14-2 in the regular season. So I would say there were actually quite a few 14-2 teams. Please note that I ignored the sprinkling of 15-1 teams that I saw. Oh yeah, don't forget that 82 was the strike year they only played 9 games.

    Cheers! :dunno:
