The old bridge was sufficient. There’s 3 ways to get through the city. I’ll combine the Harbor Tunnel and the Fort McHenry Tunnel as 1. They both go straight through the city. 695 is a highway/beltway that circles the city and you can go east or west off of 95. The Key Bridge connected the east side, which is no longer an option. While I’d estimate only 15% of traffic used the east side, the tunnels immediately picked up that additional 15% and has been a traffic nightmare going south in the mornings and north in the evenings. The tunnels don’t allow hazmat trucks, so that traffic has been diverted to 695 west, which was already a sh!t show. I don’t know why it’s costing so much, or why the amount suddenly increased like it did. Definitely some pork built in. I also don’t know why the timeline is so long. The original bridge was built in about the same time 50 years ago. It’s hard to believe technology hasn’t advanced enough to get this built quicker.
