Because people like this like to feel that they are "in". It's the same reason that otherwise reputable doctors will give questionable medication (illegal drugs) to professional athletes on the "down low". They want to be their buddy, their pal. My wife is out there with a bunch of high school kids on a mission trip. Said it was a nasty storm. Large parts of the city were withough power. Their job got changed from cleaning up/repairing homes to helping with the storm clean up. Can't help you with the story about anyone getting hurt at the ball park.

If the election was held 6 mos. ago he would have been a shoe-in. People really like the current govenor, and Osborne was wishy-washy on the Omaha school district issue. I was also very suprised by the results. I thought there would be enough blind husker fans to get Osborne elected.
