I verified this a long time ago. The Russians created a defensive network of mines, trenches and artillery, and it's nothing like any military has faced in the past 80 years, according to some retired general who was interviewed. Ukraine doesn't have the air support to unleash a well-coordinated offensive, and the defenses are much more formidable than imagined. So of course they're going to change tactics. Fresh off kicking ass on D Day, the Allies got frisky and launched Operation Market Garden, history's biggest airborne operation, which failed because they couldn't get to the last bridge, and the Germans overwhelmed them. It was a massive fail. Slower-than-expected progress and changing tactics just comes with war.

A refinery can adapt and handle multiple kinds of crude. Remember all that whining about the pipeline? That was to ship nasty tar sands oil to the Gulf, where refineries there can handle it before the refined product got exported to other countries.
