Keyshawn Johnson retires (update via ESPN)
The_Mad_Cats replied to DBZFan2K's topic in FFToday Board
Not much more to be said. I just wanted to register my displeasure with this move. It might have been a little easier to take if they had waited until training camp to get a better idea of what they had at the WR position before deciding they could cut their starter. Sure, they wanted to get younger, but clearly they paid his roster bonus so they could keep him in the fold until they saw what they could land in the draft. Bottom line is they cut Key because he wasn't a rah rah Panthers (and Delhomme) guy, so he didn't fit in with the chemistry they're trying to maintain, or maybe even build, at this point. At least he got a nice severance package and has time to shop around for another team. -
Just like the fantasy football magazines that come out every year, he's not reliable, but he's entertaining. I look forward to watching him on draft day every year. The guy doesn't have a crystal ball, but, what I like about him is the fact that he's well prepared. He's memorized a lot of information and can spew it out on cue.

That's the right idea. Trade him now while he's an all world WR. His value will slowly decline through the rest of the offseason with a bump right before the draft.

2007 NFL Draft Weekend Team Thread: Carolina Panthers
The_Mad_Cats replied to Fumbleweed's topic in FFToday Board
Alright, if we don't start padding the post count in this thread, next year we'll be lumped in with some riff-raff and have to share a pinned topic. So, now that the draft has completed, a few thoughts: 1 25 Jon Beason OLB Miami (Fla.) Okay, obviously this guy has versatility and could either be used as the weakside or middle linebacker. As I said previously, although Beason was productive and is versatile, if we were going to select a LB, I would have preferred us not trading down, but trying to trade up for 'P Willy'. I guess we'll see how this pick pans out. As I said, I like the guy for a weakside linebacker and he might be our next Will Witherspoon. Doesn't really matter, because, like all our LBs, he'll be playing for the Rams in a few years anways. 2 45 Dwayne Jarrett WR Southern California I like this pick. Was a good pick for the value. A Keyshawn clone. Having Keyshawn to tutor this kid will shorten his learning curve. Hopefully he picks up Key's aggressive and selfless blocking traits. Great hands and body control. 2 59 Ryan Kalil C Southern California Another good pick for value that fills a need. We definitely need to stockpile offensive line talent. I wonder if he will play center and Justin Hartwig will slide out to guard or vice versa? 3 83 Charles Johnson DE Georgia Another pick for value. Just as teams are always on the hunt for offensive talent, so to are they always scouring the draft for defensive talent. I predict we will see Charles Johnson in a heavy rotation with Rucker to keep Rucker as fresh as possible and to give the kid some experience behind such a steady vet. 118 Ryne Robinson WR Miami (Ohio) Kick returner. Won't see the field as a WR. Could be a gunner on special teams. 155 Dante Rosario TE Oregon Scouted as having good hands. Think they'll turn him into the next Brad Hoover. Hard to say without seeing the new offense that will be in place for the coming season. 164 Tim Shaw ILB Penn State I like this pick. Penn State LB in the 6th? I'll take it on most days. Like that he plays the inside and seems to have a lot of 'want to' in him. Should work out well on special teams and I like him for depth at the middle linebacker position. 226 C.J. Wilson CB Baylor Don't know much about him. Read that he's more of a zone DB than man to man, but that can be said of about 95% of all corners in college. Not particularly fast, but he has the size to shift over to free safety. Hopefully he can learn from Minter and contribute to the team. Not likely given his draft status, but, draft day is a day full of potential. Thoughts? If Peyton were here, he could urge us on with 'Pad that thread!! Pad that thread!' -
I think he'll be fine for the simple reason that they have pretty good odds of winning a bunch of games. Randy has his warts, but a bunch of W's tend to take the sting out not being the first read in every pass play.

2007 NFL Draft Weekend Team Thread: Carolina Panthers
The_Mad_Cats replied to Fumbleweed's topic in FFToday Board
I was mostly pleased with the draft. I think they could have done better with their first round pick. I felt like we needed to solidify the middle linebacker spot (although, I know Beason can play the middle), instead of weakside linebacker. I think they got good value with the rest of their first day picks. I too am surprised they didn't pick up a safety on the first day. Can only mean that they have discussed who's going to be available on the free agent market next year. It will certainly be a weak spot on the defense this season. -
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...NFL&id=1350 So, does a deal get done between KC and the Fish prior to the draft? Personally, I hope Tampa Bay lands Calvin Johnson so I can watch him work in person here in the land of the NFC South.
-
I thought he was made out of high-energy plankton gathered from the oceans of the world? He's much tastier than that Trent Yellow we've had for years.
-
Yeah, you have to take that deal. Manning will always be in your lineup, so really you're just trading your reliable backup for a more youthful option with upside and a nice stable of offensive options. Getting an earlier pick cements the deal.

Is there room on their roster for JJ Stokes too?
-
I'm happy to hear about it. As I stated in another post, I think Jake D. needs some extra motivation, and I think this certainly qualifies. Hopefully the contract terms will not be too offensive. I think I read somewhere that Carr might be listed as the emergency QB on gameday for the Seahawks if he signed because they were absolutely commited to keeping Seneca Wallace active. If true, I think this was an easy decision for Carr; 3rd string QB or potential to start sooner rather than later in Carolina.

Like more than a few WR, (Chambers to a point, Curtis Conway, Rod Gardner and Marcus Robinson definitely), he's made some spectacular catches in the past, followed up by inexcusable drops. The highlight reel keeps him employed, but the lack of concentration keeps him from being a reliable target.

Anybody heard a THING about Antonio Bryant?
The_Mad_Cats replied to huskerboy's topic in FFToday Board
I bet he remains a free agent until after the draft. Probably when some OC finds out he doesn't have what he thought he had at the WR position, or there are 3-4 injuries in camp. -
What Site do you use to Manage your League?
The_Mad_Cats replied to maddog3819's topic in FFToday Board
Another vote of confidence for myfantasyleague.com. My league has been there for 5 years and we have found them to be very responsive and have the others beat in the price point to feature ratio. -
http://www.cleveland.com/sports/plaindeale...&thispage=3 I wonder if Cadillac and his ~3.5 ypc is reading this.

Where does Foster land if he gets released?
The_Mad_Cats replied to Raider 84's topic in FFToday Board
Even though I agree with you, it irks me that the team is hanging on to the three of these guys when they have no cap room. I just don't understand having all of these highly drafted RB's on the roster. This just screams that they aren't sure what they have and what direction they want to head in regards to the running game. -
He had a down year and he has shown a propensity for lapses in judgement. Sometimes those result in a pick 6, other times a TD that just makes you shake your head. That said, I'm still quite content with him as the QB. I heard people calling for Weinke on local sports talk radio, but I think that was all based upon Weinke coming in at the end of the Detroit game in 2005. I don't wish the guy any ill will, but I was glad to see him fail so spectacularly to show people that the success we've had in the past wasn't because of the system. I'd like for them to draft the QB of the future this year or next at the latest. I think it would light a fire under Jake. Get his competitive juices flowing. He hasn't had any credible threat to his job since he's been here, and I think he's the kind of guy that would thrive in that situation. Bottom line is, I haven't forgotten what I've seen in the past from Jake. He's a more than capable QB. He can be a playmaker and he's a good leader and representative for the team (despite the fact that he's a biscuit shill.). I think 'good Jake' reappears if we could get any semblance of a running game back. We haven't had one since Davis held the rushing title a handful of seasons ago.

Chris Brown could resign with Titans
The_Mad_Cats replied to Voice_Of_Reason's topic in FFToday Board
Yeah. Sometimes you're lucky to still be on the team. Just ask Eric Shelton. -
Most recent scuttlebut is that Rivera is retiring.

Ha! This made me chuckle.

I'll never forget that monster stiff arm he threw on Roy Williams during a preseason game. Roy squared up on Chris Brown like he was about to make a play, and then got planted.

WHY MATT SCHAUB WILL THROW FOR 5000 YARDS
The_Mad_Cats replied to dogsoldier's topic in FFToday Board
You hafta break it down though, like in the Maddox thread. Projections for the WRs, the TEs, the RBs, the FB, and anyone else on the roster that might become eligible during a game.
