No. DOGE is not achieving any meaningful savings and they are operating in a haphazard way. Anyone who thinks DOGE is saving anything is not informed. In some ways they have reduced potential revenue with the IRS cuts and research cuts. DOGE will not be a thing for much longer. We need to get serious about Social Security, Medicaid/Medicaire, and National Defense.

Agreed that the debt is unsustainable and needs to be addressed. I just strongly disagree that tariffs are the way to do it. We need to grow the economy, cut spending and increase revenues. We're doing the opposite.

What is the greater good? Personally I think previous generations would be ashamed that we elected an autocrat and allowed him to break the law and the Constitution including sending legal residents to foreign prisons, extortion of private business and elimination of services that save lives here and globally. I don't see how accepting losing your retirement savings, losing your job and paying extraordinary taxes is for the greater good but please enlighten me.

Two things here. Whether or not we should try to be the world's manufacturing giant is up for debate. I don't see why that would be good for America but please explain to me the case for this. The second point is even if you believe we should be a manufacturing giant, why is this tariff policy the best way to achieve that? Aren't there better methods to grow manufacturing domestically?

We import $3.5B from Russia, with a trade deficit of about $3B. No tariff. Look at Lesotho. You probably never even heard of it. We import $240M from them. They got a 50% tariff. That nullifies your argument that light trading countries should be exempt.

We have a case study for this. The washing machine tariffs from the first trump term. It's very straightforward. Tariffs went on washing machines, prices went up, imports down, a few us jobs added but nothing revolutionary. In all the cost bore for each job was around $800k which is a terrible ROI. The washing machine tariffs were a dud. Now he's trying it with everything. We know this won't work.
