THE NFL finally got what they want...and it caused

I think the roughing the passer rule is the problem, and the interpretation by the refs and fines by the league are what is frustrating. Last week a 49er DB sacked the Lions QB with a pretty hard hit, was on top 10 replays everywhere. Mike Ferrera, officiating VP said it was a clean hit because he hit the qb on the side and didn't land on top of him with all of his weight. Later that week the niners cb found a letter from the league in his locker with a fine for that hit. I don't think anyone knows how to properly interprit this rule, players, coaches, refs, or the league office. That is what the real problem is here. The result is defensive players letting the qb go instead of tackling him, and the offense getting a free play out of it, maybe that's what the NFL wants, more offense? Did anyone else see in that game where a roughing the qb was called when two browns player hit rothlesburger during a int run back. Another bs call. Thanks league.

A-Train starting over J. Lewis, what an underperformer

Post your crap-ass 2-0 team here

QB- Grossman (ww pick up) RB- Tomlinson (#3 pick in draft) RB- J. Lewis (Team has yet to lean on him) WR- T.O. (can't wait for him to explode against iggles) WR- Andre Johnson/ Antoino Bryant (flip a coin) TE- L.J. Smith (gotta love McNab's favorite target) K-Robbie Gould (riding the chi-town L-train to the championship) DST- ATL (better to be lucky than good) Team is 2-0, had league high score this week, even though T.O. got me only one point. NICE!
  6. That's what I'm talkin about. J. Lewis is a sleeper stud!

    Mike Bell

Starting M. Bell over J. Lewis too, mostly because of matchup.

    Broncos Sign Woods....

I can't believe Denver would sign Woods with any real intentions of him keeping a roster spot. First he was traded by the 49ers to SD, then SD released him. Both of those teams don't have very impressive receiving corps, and he couldn't make it there. At best, I think Woods is just another body to throw to so they don't wear out the other good receivers in camp

    Balance of Power shifting?

    Why do you say this?

    Balance of Power shifting?

OK, so I did this topic a few months ago, and the chatter was significantly that AFC was still dominant over the NFC. I checked the head to head matchups last year and the AFC won 34 out of 64 games, only 2 games over .500! Real dominant huh. This doesn't include the Super Bowl, so ok 3 games over .500. The media will have us believe that the AFC is far dominant over the NFC, but when they actually play the games it apears pretty equal. Whatchathink?

    Defenses

Had to throw out some love for my niners. Got nowhere to go but up. I think their D will improve just from being on the field less and hopefully having less injuries than last year.

    C-Pep and Palmer

    C-Pep Stats Here's a link to NFL.com, I'm just goin by what I read...

    C-Pep and Palmer

C-Pep is an amazing athlete for his size, NFL.com has him listed at 6-4, 264lbs, I thought he was at least 10lbs more. I think his mobility and R. Moss were a big part of what made him a great FF QB in Sota. Will he be able to take a hit, sure if it's above the waist. He will be wearing a knee brace for at least one year, that will help protect his knee, but it won't prevent another injury if a 300lb+ lineman rolls on it. IMO FF wise he is a big risk, with potential for big reward. Which C-Pep will we see this year, the one from 2004 who would have been league MVP if it weren't for P. Manning, or the one who couldn't figure out which team to throw to like last year. Being on a new team with a new system and new teammates is another consideration. I'm thinkin late round draft pick as a #2 QB, definately more of a risk than Palmer.

Ortho PT/ Athletic Trainer in the house. VaTerp is pretty right on with most "aggressive" doctor's approaches to the general public. Other things to consider are 1)previous fitness level, I'm guessing that these professional athletes might be in better shape than most of us watching from our couches. 2)Access to rehab facilities, general public gets three times/week cause that's what insurance pays, college and pro athletes can get rehab 7days/week sometimes twice/day, 3)Money is a big factor, I'm sure most people reading this aren't costing their employers 6 figures/week to sit on the sidelines, big motivating factor. With this all being said, coming back from these injuries 6 months or so after SURGERY isn't unrealistic. QB's usually don't have to make cuts and take the pounding like RB's do, but I wouldn't expect them to be the same as last season due to confidence in the injured knee. FF wise I think you also have to take into consideration the teams these QB's are on. Palmer has always been a pocket QB, nothing will change, O-line is pretty good. C-Pep on the other hand did struggle some last year before the injury, also he is a big QB and some of his fantasy value was his ability to scamble for TD's, I personally will question that ability THIS year, he is also on a new team and will have adjustments to make that Palmer won't. I'm more concerned with Drew Brees's FF value, he is on a new team, very questionable O-line and is recovering from a torn labrum, similar to the meniscus (cartilage) in the knee. The big problem here is the labrum helps stabilize the shoulder and I'm guessing that especially less than one year post surgery, if he takes a big hit from behind while he is throwing, his shoulder may be likely to dislocate (worst case senario, of course). Shoulder strength is a big issue too for making crisp passes for out patterns, etc. So to rap it up, Palmer is the only QB out of this group I would consider at this point without actually seeing them on the field.

    'Handcuff of the year'

Just trying to think outside the box, how about Mat Schaub QB, you know Vick will get hurt...

San Francisco --> 6th overall pick

With VD's speed (4.38), he could be split out wide or in the slot, or be used on the line like a real TE, like Gates does, EJ could still be used to block and catch (until he gets hurt again). VD would be like two players in one. What a bargain! I think a possible pro-bowler in second year with only a couple of good TE's in the NFC. VD creates many missmatches with his size and speed. I think that's who they pick in the first round. Huff did make a visit to the Bay Area last week though, hummm...

    Top 5 Surprise QB's of 2006

I think one of the things that will help improve Alex Smith and other young QB's is a possible rule change that allows road teams to provide their own ball. Alex Smith had his most troble last year with fumbles and int's on the road. Road teams being allowed to bring their own balls will take away some of that home field advantage. I think Peyton and Eli Manning were the force behind this one.

    Parking ?

Isn't that one of the things that TO did last year and was accused of conduct detrimental to the team, but it's ok for McNab?

    Power Shift in the NFL

With all the players leaving the Patriots and Steelers, and Edge and Vandercrack leaving Indy, will the NFC be a stronger conference than the AFC this year?

Friend bets me 50 bucks that...

Here's one for ya. The Niners and Raiders have the same futile record combined for the past three seasons. They both are 13-35, ouch. Only one out of those three years did the Raiders have a better record, good odds. So much for the "Commitment to Excellence".

    Power Shift in the NFL

Just a little stat. In head to head games last year the AFC won 34 out of 64 games vs the NFC. About a 53% win percentage, and only two games over .500, maybe the AFC isn't as dominant as the media claims it is... thoughts.
