How many RBs do you carry on the bench?

In other words, they're all telling you to draft 14 RBs and win the championship this year. Don't listen to any of these guys, they're all morons. It depends on how you draft and who is available to you. 3 rbs is enough on any roster, if you get screwed with injury, so be it. Dont waste your picks on RB trash that will barely be utilized--there's only two starting spots on your team--and COINCIDENTALLY, everyone elses! After 4-5 weeks or so, all of the handcuff RBs usually get dropped by these RB frenzy morons anyway, since the rest of their teams blow and they scurry to find anything decent on the waiver wire.

    IDP drafters

I'd rank Lofa Tatupu pretty high in there, he can only improve and had an impressive rookie season. Sadly, I wouldn't rank Ray Lewis in the IDP elite anymore. I don't want to say he's lost a step, but there's issues in that defense that haven't yet been addressed. Also, Urlacher is great and all, but with the defensive line of the Bears stepping up, and the emergence of Briggs, Urlacher isn't as "all over the field" as he once was Also, I am stunned by how good Zack Thomas is, but he gets injured a lot, seemingly every year. If i knew I could get a healthy season out of him, I'd rank him #1. At this point, Peterson and Bulluck seem like they'll be the top linebackers. And Vilma will probably lead the league in tackles, but wont rack up many glory stats

why take tiki or portis over edge...

It IS a real stretch when guys like Priest Holmes were averaging about 320 carries and 1500 yds with that amount of catches and had the best offensive line in football on a team where the top, and the only real receiving threat was a tight end and the 2nd pass option was the runningback. So along with his 10+ yards per catch and 29 tds Portis will also be averaging about 6 yards per carry on his 320 attempts. He'll also have atleast 60+ targets in the passing game behind Moss and Cooley. I'd love for you to make some projections on their (Moss, Cooley) numbers too, because with even average passing scoring totals, you've elevated the Redskins to the #1 scoring offense in the league! In review: 2006 Portis stat projections: Breaks TD record, breaks yards from scrimmage record, has 6+ yards per carry in a season, has 10+ yards per catch

SeaHawks a clear LOCK over Steelers

Stop kidding yourself, the only reason the Colts didn't win the AFC Championship is because Nick Harper didn't have the mind to RUN AWAY from the direction of the only tackler left on the field and get tackled. If you want to deny this as well, your mind is seriously on a different planet.

SeaHawks a clear LOCK over Steelers

I'm smiling imagining how people on this thread would take a completely opposite view on officiation had the Polamalu "fumble" been of consequence in the AFC championship. Mr. "I have been officiating for 5 years and have a different perspective than the average fan" (meaning refs should not be blamed for abysmal calls?) would be crying and whining. Anyway, if you think the outcome of the game would have been the same, or similar minus the MIND BLOWING officiation in the Super Bowl, you're a mindless moron, and a Holocaust denier.

why take tiki or portis over edge...

This is the most unbelievable projection I've ever read on this site. You're not playing a Madden franchise season here. 1750-1900 yds and TWENTY FOUR tds is one thing, hahaha, then you added 50 receptions (!) for 550 yds (that's over 10 yards per catch--for a runningback) and 5 more tds. Your opinion is henceforth worthless. Need I remind you that when LT posted 100 catches in a season (still unbelievable), and as unbelievably talented he is, he still only put up 750 or so receiving yards. Do you know anything about football? Yes, yes, Tiki Barber has tallied 10 y p catch before, but you're projecting this for a runningback who isn't necessarily known for his receiving skills, and doesn't play in that type of system--on top of a career season.

    My Draft Strategies

Finally a reasonable thread not littered with RB frenzied fantasy coaches. I'm actually in an IDP league where we start 8 defenders and have a 25 round draft. I'm just barely considering not drafting a RB until the 8th round or so. There's SO many "untouchable" RBs out there that I'm almost certain guys like Ahman Green will be laying around. Based on his injury updates, a guy like that is good to target in the later rounds, he'll catch balls and put up serviceable yardage. Guys like Willis McGahee and Rudi johnson are such terrible picks in a ppr draft, so I'll leave them to someone else. I can't even imagine anyone would anticipate drafting them in my league, and I laughed when Rudi Johnson went in the early 2nd round last year. The guy who took him finished in 11th place, taking Rudi and Jamal with his first two picks. As soon as the premier non-rbbc backs are taken, I'm anticipating a massive run on WRs. Corey Dillon and co. will continue to plummet I'm sure. Some of these insane guys on this board are taking Frank Gore in the 4th round instead of a WR or QB, one of them even started a thread asking Carson Palmer/Willie Parker in the 5th round? The funniest part is, he'd already drafted 3 RBs in his posed question. Atleast this is a discussion that applies to my style of draft.

    My Draft Strategies

I have a similar league to yours and I am taking a similar approach at pick 11 Two elite WRs maybe even three. The runningbacks available at the 11th pick are basically position fillers and don't strike my fancy. I want to make sure I have a top heavy team, and I'll take flyers on RBs that are likely to plummet in my draft: Ahman Green, Curtis Martin, Corey Dillon, etc. The only RB I'd consider early on with my pick is Westbrook since it's a ppr league, and since guys like McGahee are worthless, I'd rather have an awesome #3 wr in the third round that will put up the same amount of points than a totally average RB with little to no upside. There's a lot of RBBC or question mark situations I'd rather take flyers on than drafting a total run of the mill RB with my early picks. Drafting Ronnie Brown as the superstar of my team with my first selection would have me hiding under a rock in humiliation.

    Draft strategy for IDP leagues

I'm in a very deep IDP league 8 starting defensive spots, 4 DL/LB, 2 DBs, 2 Util I'm actually going defense very high this year. Last year through some miracle trade work, I accumulated a defense compromised of all studs and they would obliterate opponents every week. The highest defender in my league was Mike Peterson at about 130 pts, which roughly compares to a decent #2/3 wr, but this year since the RBs are so un-sexy I'm starting my IDP run in the 5th round or so. Normally our defensive runs start at around the 7th round. With a staggering defense, you can win games on a weekly basis moreso than drafting middle of the road offensive players with little upside (willie parker and the lot). My corps last year was lofa tatupu, donnie edwards, zack thomas, odell thurman, ray lewis, and brian urlacher with adrian wilson and darren sharper. (Remember the Sharper 3 int, td game? A bruiser indeed!) At times, they were putting up 80 pts or so by themselves, and our weekly average for any given team is about 90 pts total! I want to secure studs like Vilma and Peterson early on, and get proven contributers like farrior and antonio pierce in the double digit rounds. I don't know how your league is with trades, but sometimes our coaches get so defense-envious that they trade pretty good players for a stud DL. They're also great throw ins and trademakers If you decide to hold off on defense, you can still get 2 or 3 "solid" guys that'll get you atleast 6 tackles a game, but you'll really need to work the waiver wire to find those gems (last year: lofa tatupu, demarrio williams, angelo crowell, etc)

Looking for a starting point for 2006 stat projections

This actually looks a lot like how my league would be drafted, surprisingly. We have a qb 6pt td, 50yds passing/pt, ppr league and aside from some 2nd round WR reaches, most of our mocks look exactly like this. Based on the formula, its really surprising considering I've tried arguing my point time and time again about RBs being unbelievably over valued despite many consistent WRs outscoring them every year. Busts like Kevin Jones and Jamal Lewis belong in the 4th round, and unproven guys like ronnie brown also belong in the third. I'll never understand people taking some of these guys in the 1st/2nd. The upside is there, but some of these WRs are near locks for equal to better numbers. Also, the quarterback position is sorely underrated in fantasy football. All Aaron Brooks "3500 20+ TDs" people will agree with me when cusp guys like that are getting you negative pts on a consistent basis. A lot of guys in my league look at these average rb's and compare them to elite players at other positions and think "this is not the guy I want to form my team around" ronnie brown, lamont, and steven jackson are prime examples. It's really hard, at the seventh pick or so, to justify taking guys like that. I mean, even in the 3rd or 4th if you're comparing a solid QB with a 1100 yd 6-8 td RB, the QB will always win, because a bad quarterback (with negative pt penalties) can literally murder a team.

Is Zach Hilton this year's TE Sleeper

He should fall late, that's where he belongs, because he isnt good--yet. Go ahead and take a flyer on Antonio Bryant and Joe Jurevicius too, while you're at it.

Is Zach Hilton this year's TE Sleeper

Can someone say Jeremy Stevens? I often find myself laughing outloud when I think about people consistently drafting the 6 foot 7 "monster" Jeremy Stevens over the course of four years (?) and him being unseated by ITULA MILI on an annual basis. I say Zack Hilton is the Jeremy Stevens of 2004, and I hope people keep taking a chance on him year after year. Hahaha, Stevens has been a sleeper every year of his career, nobody ever gives up.

    The Peyton question revisted

In a QB TD = 6 pts, ppr, 3 WR league, I see no reason why anyone should pass on Manning at even the 4th overall pick. I don't really see how Clinton Portis's and Rudi Johnsons etc are any more of a consistent point scorer than Manning. Manning will also get you more td's than they will. If all TD's are equal, why not go for the guy that is likely to score the most??? I just see no "sexiness" in Rudi Johnson calibre players as first rounders. They're likely to be outscored phenominally by elite WRs and QBs every single year. So why waste your first pick on them?
  25. Leonard Henry -2 Yds

    The Peyton question revisted

The whole point is, your league is extremely foolish if they're taking 5 guys ahead of solid QBs. I'm assuming 3 RBs and 2 WRs? You said you dont take one before the 6th? Especially considering your league, where it seems to be QB heavy, it's an important position that should be addressed early, not taken for granted in an "any ol' guy will fall to me" philosophy. It makes no sense that you'd value average RBs and depth over the most important position in your league. Think of it this way, I'm not going to let Matt Hasselbeck pass me by so I can "shore up" my RB depth with trash like Fred Taylor and hope someone within the range of Hasselbeck will slide to me in the 7th. If anything, I'd take the opposite approach and let the clown RBs slide to the seventh. It's unbelievable to me that people are drafting guys like Frank Gore in the 5th, before they've even taken a QB. That's sickening. I guess your philosophy works in your league because of your RB frenzy coaches, but in my league, Peyton Manning will be taken 4th overall because he is a one man fantasy game winner, as much as Alexander, LT, and Larry. No one can argue that. Also, I drafted Willis McGahee and Jamal Lewis in the first 2 rounds last year (i'll never go RB RB again), and I somehow managed to land in 3rd place in my league. I didn't grab team savers like Willie Parker or Stephen Davis, I just know how to work trades and buy low and sell high - so saving myself from the bust factor is not on my mind in the early rounds. You can use the same philosophy with trash RBs. Why draft Kevin Jones when I can grab any other 1000 yd 8 td RB a couple rounds later? In a league of negative pts for turnovers, QB is a make or break position for a team. You dont win games when you settle for Aaron Brooks and are confident going into the season because he's normally considered a "3500 20+" guy and he's getting you negative pts on a consistent basis
