The Peyton question revisted
Leonard Henry -2 Yds replied to Apu Nahasapeemapetilon's topic in FFToday Board
RB depth? Why would I want depth to accompany run of the mill RBs when I could just draft elite receivers or QBs in the first 6 rounds? Trust me, I'll take manning, holt, and _____ WR over steven jackson, westbrook, and kevin jones calibre RB corps ANYDAY. Step back and analyze what happened last year with RBs. Aside from the top 6 or 7, every other RB was practically a roster/gap filler. Kevin Jones, Julius Jones, Ahman Green, Jamal Lewis, Deuce McAllister, Chris Brown, Reuben Droughns, Michael Bennett/Mewelde, etc etc etc (should I name more? I can) all had years and numbers that were similar and not worth a high draft pick (top 3 or 4 rounds). Meanwhile, Marvin, Holt, Chad, Steve Smith (drafted in the 3rd in my league), Manning, Palmer (drafted in the 4th in my league--what vision!), Hasselbeck, Brady were all solid players going into last year's drafts that all had good years. I'm seriously wondering, in your league, if you click that little fantasy pts ranking, where are Manning and Palmer? Right near Larry, Shaun and LT where they belong? or near the bulls.hit guys that you would draft like Steven Jackson number wise? Who was the "solid" 20+ td 3500 yd guy you had last year in the 6th? Aaron Brooks? lol I'm sorry, but if I was in the first round at the 7th pick or so and I chose Ronnie Brown as the elite stud/crutch of my team over a quarterback that is two years removed from BREAKING THE SINGLE SEASON TOUCHDOWN RECORD I might as well stop playing Maybe I should add that he's never been injured, has thrown for nearly 4000 yards in every season he's played, has the same coaching staff and offensive receiving unit, and has a weaker running game this year. Yeah, I'd feel "ok" about that if he "slipped to the 2nd round after I had my average #1 RB" too -

Yeah, you're really smart. I'm pretty sure all the geniuses that stuck to their guns and stayed away from solid QBs and drafted studs like Deuce McAllister, Willis McGahee, Curtis Martin, Jamal Lewis, and Ahman Green in the first 6 rounds owe their championships to your philosophy. You're a moron. -

You're one of the dumber people I've encountered on this board, probably worse than the RB frenzy morons I was sarcastically making fun of in my post. -

All of you guys have it completely wrong. If you don't take a RB in the first eight rounds you're pretty much a tool. If Manning or a top 5 WR is still available past the eigth round, I maybe consider it, but you can't really justify taking elite players at other positions because if guys like Cedric Cobbs, Brian Calhoun, or Verron Haynes fall to the ninth it's pure value. -

With all the runningback question marks this season, I'm not touching any QB until I've drafted atleast ten runningbacks in the first eleven or twelve rounds. Why take Manning in the 2nd round when you can wait and draft someone like Charlie Frye in the 15th? At that ADP, Frye is "pure value." If Manning is still around in the late 11th round in my league, I might opt to take a gamble and pass on guys i have my sights on like LeBrandon Toefield and Maurice Hicks. I mean, who knows? Sometimes the risks outweigh the benefits. HTH -

Ronnie Brown - Steppin Up or Steppin Down?
Leonard Henry -2 Yds replied to Kilroy's topic in FFToday Board
Say hello to Kevan Barlow version 2004. People are jocking this guy's nuts inexplicably. -
There are some lucrative names in the NFL that are hard to glance over. Whenever players like Moss and Owens play, it seems like the spotlight and cameras are completely honed in on them. Moss is coming off an injury plagued season, but showed a spark of his old self in the final game last season. Also, top name players seem hard to completely phase out of a game by defenses and their own coaching staff--call them "keys to success" or whatever. You don't often find yourself pulling your hair out, screaming "WHY AREN'T THEY THROWING IT TO MOSS?!?!?" at the TV screen. With his pure talent, is there any way a player like him can be a bust over the course of a season if he's injury free? I think the closest thing to a bust season (recently) from a lucrative top talent WR was Owens in 2003 on the 49ers, and he still had very solid stats. So, my question is, what is the bottom line worst case scenario of stat line for Moss in a healthy season? I'm targeting him in the early 2nd round, mind you, in a non-RB crazy league. Also, putting last season's stats aside, is there any reason someone would take a player like Moss over more consistent "sure bets" like Marvin Harrison or Torry Holt?
-
I've also considered doing the Moss/TO tandem this year in the first two rounds. The only thing to consider is that they both have the same bye week. That's enough to make me look to another badass receiver combo.
-
thank you to the people who crushed the retarded "get 2 rbs" strategy with real numbers in a ppr league. If I was drafting ronnie brown in the 1st round to be the star player of my team, I think I'd have to quit fantasy football altogether.

Best, funniest league/team names

I was in last place last year and was starting Kevan Barlow during a bye week My team name was "Setting the Bar Low" -
Ugh, damnit. No, you don't need 3 quality RBs right away. Why in the HELL would I draft garbage like Willis Mcgahee if I could draft a WR that will actually put up points? When I said my league wasn't RB crazy, it's that we're slightly QB heavy, along with the fact that we're smarter than drafting trash like Jamal Lewis and Curtis Martin in the 3rd round when we could have a quality wide receiver or QB. This is why top WRs will likely go higher than average run-of-the-mill gap filler RBs like Steven Jackson and Kevin Jones. We like points, not garbage crapshoot runningbacks. We're also an IDP league, so we have 25 rounds and start drafting defenders around the 7th Back to Randy Moss? I was just wondering if anyone thinks he's up to par with the consistent guys like Holt and Harrison, with the upside to be dominant.

What Teams Would You Consider......
Leonard Henry -2 Yds replied to ggroovy17's topic in FFToday Board
Although I do take schedules into account when drafting, I dont put too much emphasis on it. I haven't checked the Giants schedule yet, but wasn't the same "BRUTAL" schedule forecasted for the Chargers last year? Teams (especially defenses) change a lot from year to year--take the Bills for example, or the Ravens. In fantasy football, I like drafting teams with an overall good momentum. If the team itself is sound, usually the players produce. It's really why I've tried my best to avoid teams like the Redskins and Bills in the past--corpse teams with absolutely no momentum and ultra conservative playbooks. People always mention that "so and so team will be playing from behind all year, so their players will produce in garbage time" but honestly, if you can bear with me here, when I was watching inept QBs like Mark Brunell in garbage time in 2004, it was stomach sickening. Sometimes teams in general are so bad that they cant even get a first down in garbage time. I do feel, however, that the Giants are making a collective stride towards a solid team in all aspects. They won't be the type of team that can be absolutely shut down, no matter what defense they play. Also, I don't think any defense besides the Bears is really capable of completely shutting down a good team this year. -

Eli and Tiki. With more and more solidification on the offensive front, there's no reason the Giants shouldnt be the top offense in the NFC this year. -
this just in, Charles Rogers didn't get injured last year!

Antonio Bryant - Steppin Up or Steppin Down?

If you buy into this hype you're seriously gonna regret it -
After three YEARS of speculations, projections, and incessant hype, all I have to say is "LOL" NEVER AGAIN. NOT EVEN AS A WAIVER WIRE PICK UP.
-
dont forget about Darrius Watts!
-
you're picking up Leonard Henry? I already drafted him, in the 5th round.
-
I'm not very up to date on why LaVar Arrington isn't starting or if he's healthy. I know he's been dealing with injuries, but what are they? I'm in an IDP league and noticed he had 9 tackles so I picked him up. Wondering if he's worth a start in week 8.
-
Patrick Pass, Kevan Barlow, or JJ Arrington =(
-
any more thoughts on this? might as well bump a real conversation instead of something entitled BIGGEST TRADE OF ALL TIME (Drew Bennett and TJ Housh for Santana Moss, what do you guys think??????)
-
so are they just using him in certain packages? If so, any chance you'd know which (run stopping, pass defending, etc) I'm wondering so I can spot start him vs certain teams based on their offensive schemes. For instance, people like Tommy Polley not being involved in nickel package KILLED me and gave me 0 tackles when they played the colts, since they run the 3 wr set almost all the time.
-
It depends on what you're looking for. I say, if you want a solid performance every week, go with Pierce, he's good for the tackles. If you want game winning numbers that will actually put you ahead, go with Dansby - usually good for a couple tackles and a sack, with the possibility of putting up 14.5 pts like he did this week.
