  1. Assuming it is a 12 team, start 2 rb, 2 wr and a flex I think that your wr's leave something to be desired. If this is either a start 3 wr or a ppr league i tthink you could be in trouble. The rest of your team looks competitive.

  2. I'm playing in the FBG/FFPC for the reasons you already mentioned. Full escrow of winnings, $350 entry fee, fast pay-out with 80% (or better) pay-out in prizes. I trust that site to do what some only promise.

You had better be projections oriented tho...FPPC has "power scoring" and 1PPR for RBs and WRs and 1.5 PPR for TEs. So it is a little funky, but I think it will be fun. I'm already registered and my league is filled (I'm drafting #5), so I'd like to know who from this site will be competing for the big money.

It would be nice to see who from this site advances the furthest.

I think I will be signing up today...you convinced me.

  3. I just don't feel like getting hosed from CBS again. I guess that the service was not terrible, but the fee is (I feel) outrageous. I would rather put the same dollars toward the payout. Live scoring is a must - no dynasty here.

    What do you guys recommend?

    thx

Ya, ESPN...all you need for free. Keeps historical data from past years, live stats, iphone app. If you are one of those that dispises "the four letter network" go with yahoo or foxsports. All are more than adequate for a redraft league.

  4. Let me know what you guys decide, I'd like to play in a big money league too.

I have narrowed it down to either NFFC or FBG Players Championship. $350 is about my max to spend. Or should I say all my wife will let me! Going to do some comparisons today.

  5. I am really considering trying one of the high-stakes national contests like the FBG Players Championships, AntSports, NFFC, etc., but I am unsure which one to try. I do not want to spend that much money then be totally disappointed. Any biased or unbiased, vested or detached opinions will help. I am leaning towards the FootballGuys contest since they are a name I have known and trusted for quite a while but if there is a better one out there I will show no loyalty. Thanks in advance.

  6. :dunno:

Shape it the way you want, but my point is that there is not a scarcity of RBs as there once was. By you saying that some teams have multiple fantasy options at RB proves that fact. Even weak fantasy teams such as Cleveland and Oakland have RBs that you can easily roster and play as flex starts. Because the change NFL teams have made from a workhouse to a multiple back approach, you do not need to draft RB heavy. Top 5-6 I would get one but after that it makes little sense since there are a ton of RBs that are similar and carry their own risks. I am just saying (depending on league settings) I would rather get the better, less risky players in the early rounds.

  7. Can you call Santana Moss a sleeper?? With the kind of year i expect him to have compared to last few years we can call him a sleeper. I like him to have a big year this year. He can blow up during any game but rarely has because he has yet to play with a QB. He finally has a pretty dam good QB in McNabb.

In 2003-04 with the JETS he had 74 catches for 1105 and 10 TDs and in 2005-06 his first year in Washington he had his best year with 84 catches for 1483 and 9 TDs.

Im gonna say he catches 85+ for 1300+ and 8-12 TDs. That would make him pretty close if not a top 10 WR.

that is my bold prediction for this week atleast. Look for Santana and Freddy Davis to have very good years.

I think he is...alot of people down on him. he is a forgotten man. He could easily outperform his current draft status. But 1300+ and 8-12 tds???? WOW...since I have him as my #3 in dynasty I hope you are right but I dont see it.

  8. i will always tend to favor RB's due to the scarcity of the positon. as Husker outlined, most leagues will require you start a minimum of 2. 32 starting backs in the NFL, some teams have 2 fantasy worthy guys but some teams don't have anyone you would want to rely on at all.

I couldnt disagree with this post more. OK, true, there are only 32 starters in any given week...but who starts between Deangelo and Stewart?....Pierre & Bush....Barber or Felix....Jacobs/Bradshaw? Any of these players could be a solid #2 or flex on any team. My point is that there are so few "feature" or "3-down" backs anymore that you do not have to go the traditional RB-RB route anymore. If you are drafting in the top 6 or so, yes, go get that stud RB, but anytime after this is when to start thinking in another direction IMO.

Especially in a ppr league..I believe the winning formula is getting two stud WRs so you do not have to worry about the position, then load up on a nice, deep stable of RBs. If you happen to land a stud in the meantime, all the better.

  9. ppr or not, I feel Greene is one of the safest RBs this year. #1 RB in non-ppr or #2 RB in PPR = gold. He is the lead dog in a run-oriented team that lead the league in rushes last year. Even w/ Fanaca gone, most would consider the Jets O-line top 5 in the league. He only has a rookie and an outdated LT behind him. The O has plenty of weapons to prevent opposing Ds from stacking the box. And the Jets D will always keep them in games and put the O in great situations!

Now all players come w/risk. The big one for Greene is that his receptions will prob top out at 10 or so. He does play violently so risk of injury is there. and there is always the chance that because he is "LT" the coaches may feel more tempted to play him than they should or he deserved (as SD did last year).

Even before the injury, Pit did not have nearly the line or weapons that NY has. In a ppr I could see going with Mendy since he will get 30 or so more pts than Greene, but in a standard league...Greene all the way.

Mendy is actually a candidate to underperform this year considering where he will be drafted.

  10. Normally it really does not matter where I draft from in a 12-team re-draft league, but this year more than any other in recent memory it is best to be at the top of the draft...the best being 1-4. You get whoever "falls" to you out of the big 4 RBs then get two picks in a row in the 2nd and 3rd to add either two WRs or even an elite QB or even another RB depending on scoring/roster settings.

  11. I think it's Yahoo hands down for a free league. With ESPN you have to deal with the crap that goes along with ESPN. Also, on free ESPN QBs default to 4 pts for a td and they have double rounds in the playoffs.

Ummm...have the league manager change the settings???? My money league has been ran on ESPN for years and no one has any complaints. It is free and they have vastly improved their settings for more flexibility. I like it much better than yahoo.

  12. I think Shonne Greene is among the safest picks and I'd be very happy to draft him in the late first or early 2nd. He's the featured back on a team with a great defense and dominating offensive line, and Tomlinson is thoroughly washed up. Greene should easily be good for 1,200 rushing and double-digit touchdowns, and that's the floor.

Well said and i agree totally. In non-ppr leagues he could end up a top 3-5 RB and you will get him much cheaper than that.

  13. OK, but would you take Best before him? If so, you are indeed the #1 Lion Fan.

I never said anything about taking Best over Benson, did I? But now that you mention it...although Benson will score more TDs, I could easily see Best having more total yards this year than Benson. Best's concern is injuries, but Benson is not a model of health or an ironman either. Would I rather take Benson at end of 1st/early 2nd OR Best in 4th or 5th?....ummm, I'll take Best, every draft of the week....Lion homer or not!

  14. I agree with a previous poster that Henne needs to be on this list and that Flacco cannot really be considered a sleeper. I hope you are right about 4k+25tds.

A deep, deep sleeper is Matt Moore. He looked good at times last year...he has a whole offseason to digest the playbook and get comfortable with the WRs. It is a setback that Smith is out for a while but this could help in a way that the young guys get more work. He has a great O-line and a running game that all teams have to gameplan for. I would be happy to get a stud QB early then fill all other positions and get Moore in the last round or two as my backup.

  15. How many RBs have had one 1,800+ season?

I don't think Johnson would need the repeat last season's ridiculous stats (or really come all that close) to finish as a top 3 RB.

There have only been 18 other seasons where some one has eclipsed 1,800 yards:

1 Eric Dickerson Los Angeles Rams 2,105 1984

    2 Jamal Lewis Baltimore Ravens 2,066 2003

    3 Barry Sanders Detroit Lions 2,053 1997

    4 Terrell Davis Denver Broncos 2,008 1998

    5 O.J. Simpson Buffalo Bills 2,003 1973

    6 Earl Campbell Houston Oilers 1,934 1980

T7 Ahman Green Green Bay Packers 1,883 2003

    T7 Barry Sanders Detroit Lions 1,883 1994

    9 Shaun Alexander Seattle Seahawks 1,880 2005

    10 Jim Brown Cleveland Browns 1,863 1963

11 Tiki Barber New York Giants 1,860 2005

    12 Ricky Williams Miami Dolphins 1,853 2002

    13 Walter Payton Chicago Bears 1,852 1977

    14 Jamal Anderson Atlanta Falcons 1,846 1998

15 Eric Dickerson Los Angeles Rams 1,821 1986

    16 O.J. Simpson Buffalo Bills 1,817 1975

17 LaDainian Tomlinson San Diego Chargers 1,815 2006

18 Eric Dickerson Los Angeles Rams 1,808 1983

Dickerson has done it 3 times and OJ twice - which means only 16 backs (if you include Johnson) have ever reached that threshold. So why would it matter if Johnson failed to have back to back 1,800 yard seasons. Odds are that no back is going to break 1,800 yards next year.

Dont forget Barry...he did it twice too!! So make that 15 backs that did it. But my fall on his face candidate is Cedric Benson. not touching him for as high a price as you will have to pay. I see owners taking him at the 9, 10, 11 spot - insane!

  16. With a deep receiving corp, a potentially elite TE & capable runnning game, how do you see Jennings and Driver doing this year?

Is Jennings a legit #1 fantasy option? Is he in the Roddy, D-Jax category?

Are Driver's days as a 70 catch/1000 yard receiver numbered? Could he be counted on as a weekly fantasy stater?

  17. Moreno may be getting overlooked in redraft and dynasty. Had 247 carries, 28 rec, 9 tds, almost 1200 total yds as a rookie. With no other RBs brought in and Marshalls 100 receptions out of town...all this should go up!

All the buzz is about Greene, Mathews, Rice....but I could easily see Moreno finishing as a top 10 RB in 2010....especially in a PPR league. Are the following projections too high or too low?

    250 carries, 1125 yds, 4.5 average, 10 tds

    40 rec, 280 yds, 7.0 ave, 2 tds

  18. How do you guys see the following older but steady WRs fairing this year? Are any worthy of a #2 or #3 fantasy option in PPR leagues?

Santana Moss (solid #3 WR) - word is he looks fresh...McNabb could add 10 rec, couple hundred yds, a few more TDs to his stat line

Donald Driver (solid #3 WR) - both knees scoped, butthis will only help over the season....wants to play until 40....potent Offense

Derek Mason (low end #3 WR) - could be potent O, but Boldin, Stallworth, Rice, and TEs mean a lot of mouths to feed

Hines Ward (low end #2 WR/solid #3)- QB situation sketchy, not a lot of depth in WR corps though

Torry Holt (free agent wait and see guy) - last year probably proved he's done, but is it possible he gets a shot of youth in NE?

  19. OK, OK - I see the greene v Mathews debate. thanks for all the insight. What if I could trade Greene ($30) away for either the 2nd ($51), 3rd ($43) or 4th ($36) pick in the rookie draft & another prospect? This would land me either Best, Spiller or Dez Bryant and a young, cheap RB or WR. Would you do this and if so which rookie would you target and what kind of throw in prospect would be fair to ask? Remember, this is a salary cap, ppr dynasty league and this is why I am a bit down on Greene.

I am in a $400 salary cap PPR dynasty league and I drafted Shonn Greene last season. I was offered the 1.01 rookie draft pick for Greene (along with a later draft pick I would have to throw in). What this boils down to - is Mathews long term value in SD better than Greene's? Mathhews would cost me $60 whereas Green's salary is $30 this year.
