I agree with all your points but I will also add that 162 games and making the playoffs should not potential have your season end in a best of 3 first round series. Admittedly I am a jaded Rays fan who watched my team have the 4th best record in baseball, but because they played in the AL East, Houston got to sit home while the Rays got bounced in 2. Yes, they should have taken care of business, at home (if you can call it home), but baseball playoff series have momentum swings. Hard to see one of those in a 3 game series. If anything, and if they don't want to take a page out of the NBA's book as far as seeding, then at least make that first round best of 5. The DS and CS can then be best of 7 each.

Do you think it would have made much of a difference given the roster? I'm not exactly a Boone fan but Cashman assembled that monstrosity of a roster . Texas has some fiery young players and the high priced veterans (at least the position players) stay on the field. I'm not sure how much a better manager could have done with guys like Donaldson, DJ, Stanton and his .191 average, and how long did it take them to finally cut bait on Hicks? Cashman gotta go
