But my point with AD is that I don't think anyone would have blinked an eye if a franchise traded 2 first round picks for him to the Lakers. He only turns 32 in March and is an All Star level player capable of scoring, rebounding and playing solid (for the NBA) defense. So if he is worth 2 firsts and the Mavs also got another first in the deal, they theoretically got 3 firsts and Max Christie, with the added bonus of knowing what two of those first round picks are... they are Anthony Davis. No need to hope that you hit with your picks the way Boston did with Tatum and Brown and not the way Philly did with Simmons, Okafor, Fultz... So I think talking heads and NBA fans are sometimes too hung up on huge draft pick hauls for star players. Im not saying Dallas shouldn't have or couldn't have gotten more but maybe 5 firsts isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I didn't quote you directly but I pulled something you said after I saw it and added it to my post on the last page. Again, I think Dallas could have received a better haul but I also think people are underestimating what they got because it's not 7 first round picks. There also seem to be some people posting in here who maybe don't follow basketball and assume that Luka is a picture of health because of his age and that the games missed gap between him and AD is monumental when it's really not.

Realistically AD is only 6 years older than Luka and still an All Star quality player. Luka is about to turn 26, has played in less than 50% of his games this year. He’s had knee and ankle issues and missed over 90 games already in his career but we are talking about AD as the injury prone one.

It’s still not good but let’s look at it from a different perspective. heard a lot of NY sports talk radio mentioning the haul the Nets got for KD, especially factoring in what they flipped Bridges for. And I get it, it was a haul. But maybe there’s something to be said for the known commodity. Would anyone blink if a team traded a 1st for AD? What about 2 firsts, especially if it could put them in contention with top teams in their conference? Probably not. How often do first rounders bust? Probably not as often as the NFL but still pretty often. Look at the 76ers and the process and all the years spent accumulating picks, drafting mostly busts and winding up with malcontent Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. Never been to an eastern conference finals. So how much were all those unknown first round picks really worth?
