After re-reading your initial post I don't think he has a "bad reputation" with his peers, but with snobby guitar elitists that never made it big. Like MO said, he did have some great riffs, but imo Poison was more of a party band. Part of why I like them so much. They don't take themselves too seriously. Also, music is subjective, obviously. -

Pretty much this. Compared to his peers, he is a low talent guitarist. That being said, I live their music quite a bit and CC never compared himself to any of the other guitar gods at the time. -
