One problem with anything Congress tries is that it rarely seems to be a single yes/no type deal. The primary goal of legislation might be do "thing A" but then politicians toss in their pet projects or other unrelated crap into a bill. When folks object to "things X, Y, and Z" the bill gets shot down and opposition screams that the other side is against "thing A".

Honest question: What was the % of support among the population just a couple years ago when Democrats had complete control of Congress? Were the Democrats ignoring the will of the people since they could've passed a bill to close this private sales loophole regardless of all Republicans voting against it?

This year I'll be giving my Mom a gift certificate to a local flower nursery. I considered going the usual un-original FTD route but then decided she'd probably enjoy picking out and planting her own flowers. Times like these I wish my parents had separate cell phone numbers so that I can text my Dad and ask her what nursery she goes to. Instead I had to use Google Maps to find out what ones were nearby. I'll of course be giving all of YOUR moms the usual pearl necklace. What are the rest of you doing?

Wife and I went shooting with my daughter and her boyfriend this weekend. I hadn't fired a weapon since I had a 12 gauge shotgun in high school. G0ddamn was that a good time! Her boyfriend has a few rifles and handguns. He also had a couple from his uncle. My favorite was definitely his uncle's VEPR-12. I told her I didn't give a sh1t and then asked her why didn't she get a girlie pink one. I can definitely see how people can get into acquiring various firearms as a hobby.

It was supposed to be Iron Maiden, but they had to cancel due to Bruce Dickinson having bronchitis. Funny how the ads in the paper for the show - remember this was pre internet - had warnings about the adult language. Oh my good gracious they have a song called SMF (Sick Mother Focker) and that Dee Snider would say the dreaded F word. The show was downright PG by today's standards.

Very cool. They also had a 10 year old Asian girl sing the National Anthem and she focking crushed it. She was amazing. Edit: here's a video of her singing yesterday. Bummer that it doesn't show her close up, but you can see her on the screens in the distance.
