    Murky Tennessee backfield

Well in 2004 he started 6 regular season games and averaged 123 rushing yards per game. And if you take out all the games he was used just as a 1 yard battering ram into the end zone in 2004 which brought down his YPC, and look at the 9 games he got a featured role in, he averaged 4 yards a carry. He scored 13 times that year which was tied for 4th in the NFL amongst RBs. If he had been featured the entire year, perhaps he would've been considered a top NFL RB for that season, who knows. He was certainly very productive without the best speed or body though. That's for sure.

Vince Young and Lendale White at Mini Camp Here's a more recent picture of him, He doesn't look so fat and out of shape there, but looking at Jerome Bettis the last couple of years, you don't have to be a chiseled genetic freak to play RB, if you have good vision and instincts. Plus he will more than likely be eased into the starting role, with him serving as a short yardage guy this year, so he will definitely have time to develop. I take more stock in how he performs in game time situations (USC/Texas) than how fast he can run a 40 or if he has a 6 pack or not. I believe he showed up at minicamp at 237 which was just 2 pounds off his listed weight (235) at USC. I'm not sure if he can handle the full NFL Load, but the good thing is he doesn't have to right now.

Well, I'm higher on him than most, mainly because the Titans have a seemingly tough schedule this year, and there should be plenty of Volek throwing to catch up. I don't think Fisher will pull him if he's putting up good numbers. But if Volek goes through 1 or 2 bad games in a row, then it could be the end of him.

Players you swear you'll never draft again...

Randy McMichael has burned me in the 2nd half of the season the last 2 years. This year, with the improved QB situation he's looking a little more enticing....PLEASE STOP ME!!!

Reggie Brown has to be up there with Ben Watson as well.

Even the worst offense usually gets to the goal line at least once a game. I personally don't think they will be that bad. But I agree, let's look at the Volek Games last year. Volek's 1 start last year (I believe) wasn't indicative of his talent. He started the game at Arizona, and his two starting receivers were...wait for it....Brandon Jones and Roydell Williams. That's right a couple of 3rd round rookies who were green as grass. And even then Brandon Jones got injured in the game, so in comes Courtney Roby. Well you may say, they still had Chris Brown to open up the defenses, well you'd be wrong, because the main RB was Jarrett Payton, CB got injured early. There you go, Jarrett Payton and his 2.5 YPC. Let's see any QB throw 300 yards and 3 TDs w/ a trio of rookies to throw to and a guy fresh off the practice squad to hand off to. Even with all the adversity his stats weren't terrible in that game. 18/32 198 yds 1 TD 1 INT. I don't think a 56% completion percentage is so bad considering the situation. His other two appearances (Miami, Jacksonville) were in relief work for injured McNair and Mauck, so I'll just say the conditions weren't ideal. Even then, his Miami stats 14/24 132 yds 1 TD weren't terrible by any means. That's a 58% completion percentage, with a 50+ yard bomb TD to Bennett. Let's look at Jacksonville, his stats were 14/25 for 114 and 2 TDs, which was all in 2 quarters. Once again 56% completion percentage. So in his 3 major appearances it looked like this 46/81 444 yds 4 TDs 1 INT. Just glancing at Matt Shaub's stats last year, they're very comparable, and a lot of people think he's a very capable starter in the NFL. This year the conditions are ideal for Volek. He's the named starter, and who knows what he's capapble of working with the A-Team during the whole pre season. Yes I'm an optimistic homer, but I'm just presenting you the facts. I'm glad I got that off my chest :-)

Rumors out of Nashville is to not be surprised if Henry or Brown is traded. As of right now the Titans are carrying 7 RBs (Brown, Henry, White, Nash, Gaither, Payton, Fleming) which is way to much. Payton or Nash could be cut. Gaither may go practice squad. Financially speaking, it would probably be more wise to trade Brown, who will be looking for a new deal next year anyways, Henry is signed cheap. But the coaching staff hasn't trusted Henry since the suspension last year. Everyone assumes White will be the goal line guy, and Chris Brown is a lousy short yardage guy, so White will likely be the more attractive fantasy option, while Brown should be good for about 800-900 yards, while White might vulture 7-9 TDs. I think Brown could be a decent RB3 in certain matchups, he was a great fantasy player for 3-4 games in a row last season. But before training camp, it's anybody's guess. Fisher has said he wants to run more this year, but that's what every coach says before they're down 25 points in the 3rd quarter.

    Opinions on scoring

I'm doing yardage bonuses in my main league this year for the first time. We're doing 3 points for the 100 yard rushing or receiving and 300 yard passing for QB. I don't know how I feel about it yet. The only bad thing I can think is that it kind've devalues some of the receiving threat RBs, like Westbrook or D. Davis whose stats often look like 75 yards rushing 45 yards receiving.
  9. I'm not disagreeing, I'm just wondering why everyone is sleeping so much on him, I know he's a decent red zone target, and Givens is now gone, but Givens was never much of a red zone threat (in the season) anyways. Do you believe he'll be a top tier TE? Are there any non-believers?

NFL.com fantasy football magazine hits June 12

"Expert Advice": NFL.com senior analyst and former Dallas Cowboys personnel chief Gil Brandt gives a position-by-position look at what fans should keep in mind while preparing for the 2006 season." I only hope it can be half as riveting as his fantasy columns on NFL.com

    Aaron Brooks

I'd like to see his stats over 16 games in a given season. Was he consistent? Or did he have monster games followed up by abysmal efforts? I had Hasselbeck last year, and while he was a fantasy monster in December (when it really counted), he was a fantasy pedestrian a lot of the rest. I need a good reliable QB who I can get (somewhat) late that will consistently put up good #s. I had been considering targeting Brooks, possibly as a 2nd QB. If I were able to get Hasselbeck in the 5th/6th and Brooks in the 9th/10th I'd be really excited. I believe I got Hasselbeck in the 6th and Leftwich in the 12th last year. I don't believe Brooks will last that long. It really doesn't matter how many INTs he throws (only minus 1 in my league). I have a feeling someone will bite on Brooks way earlier in the 6-8 round range, just because of the Moss factor.

What Are You Praying for on Draft Day

I'm hoping Denver trades Tatum Bell and picks Maroney. Maroney will be sick in their blocking system since they ran one similar at Minnesota. It fits his style perfectly and he should be acclimated rather quickly. We'll see though, you know Denver never selects a 1st round RB...

Pac Man Jones in trouble again?

But according to Pacman he merely loaned the car to him for a shot in a rap video. That hardly sounds like anything guilty to me. When they find substantial evidence that Pacman was involved in a drug ring or anything like that I'll shut up. But until then he's not in any trouble and their aren't even any investigations going on right now concerning Jones. Their are no charges nor are their any pending charges. Yes he got run through the mud a little with the media but in the end everything's ok. Hopefully.

No one is talking about the Titans?

According to most these days it appears Tennessee is set on taking Young. I personally believe they want Leinart, and are using Young as a smokescreen to attempt to prevent teams trading up to #2 to snatch Leinart. As for who fits the system better, I really don't think that will enter the minds of the Titans. When you get a franchise QB who could potentially be the face of the team for 10-15 years, you will change or tweak your system to adapt to their strengths. Norm Chow is getting paid a lot of money as offensive coordinator, if he has a hard time acclimating Young, Leinart, or Cutler who are some of the top prospects in the last few years, then he needs to find another job. As for the RB talk, unless Bush falls to 3, I don't see the Titans taking a back in this draft. They have two 1000 yard backs in Brown and Henry, and they have a nice developmental guy in Damien Nash and Jarret Payton who provides depth as well. It is accepted that the line underperformed and generally played awful all last season. Hopefully they'll spend a pick or two to help bolster the line since their are major question marks on the right tackle position.

Pac Man Jones in trouble again?

Last year he got in trouble for an altercation with a night club owner. To my knowledge it had nothing to do with drugs.

Pac Man Jones in trouble again?

DaveJ- Why should Pacman be punished for something his friend did? I take it you don't have any friends who do stupid things? I don't think you should be punished because your friend is an idiot. And from your post I gather you think that everyone who associates with drug users/dealers are guilty? He doesn't deserve the harassment by the media because his friend got busted selling drugs. He may be guilty as well in the end, but until it's proven I think I'll lay off of him a little.

    Redskins Cap Situation

The Redskins are definitely an organization on the rise. It hasn't worked in the past, but they did make the playoffs last year. And had an extremely impressive run at the end winning 6 of their last 7. I don't see how the addition of these FAs can hurt the team. The biggest question mark is the play of Mark Brunell who's as inconsistent as sex after marriage. If they had a average-above average QB I think they could really go far. If Brunell plays decent I don't see how they aren't the favorite to win the division. They have all the pieces. Elite RB Great WR corps, as deep as any other team in the league. Elite return guy in Randle El Top 5 defense Rising TE in Cooley Not really sure of their O-Line play but when you have a 1500+ yard back and a 1400+ yard receiver I gotta assume the line is more than adequate

    Antonio Gates

Rivers has had almost 3 years to get comfortable in the offense, but Gates is still the number one receiving option on the team, so he should still put elite TE numbers. I expect he'll start out slow, but as Rivers gets better he'll be fine. I would still be wary of Tony Gonzalez though. I would definitely consider having Shockey or Heap as the #2 TE available. A good consistent TE was hard to find last year, but Gates is still head and shoulders above the rest IMO. Having him is a major advantage at the TE spot since no others can even hope to compare

Zach Hilton - TE - Saints

Considering what Drew Brees-Antonio Gates did, Zach Hilton should be on everybody's radar. Height makes him a great redzone target. Drew Brees loves his tight ends

Pac Man Jones in trouble again?

To be fair, nothing has been proven. According to Pacman, he just loaned a car to a friend, who is an aspiring rapper, for a rap video. And then his friend got busted. And the local media has harassed him day and night about it, leading to the widely viewed video of him cussing out the reporters. He desperately needs to learn how to act towards the media. It was quite emberassing to the Titans.
