    Vince Young

As a Titans fan, I thought VY looked ok last night. For those who didn't watch the game (only the stats) his WR dropped atleast four passes while he played. I think they actually dropped 7-8 for the game. McCareins dropped one, Gage dropped a huge pass on third down, Roydell dropped one, and I can't remember who the other one was. He also had a nice scramble for the first. Vince and the Titans had no trouble moving the ball on the Falcons, but they still struggle to get in the endzone. If those passes were caught he'd probably have been 12/18 for 150-160 yards and an INT. Not terrible for a half. About the INT, that was a bad pass all the way around and VY deserves the grief on that one. Vince really struggles on the short passing game which I hope will be addressed by Heimerdinger in the next few weeks. And just to emphasize that preseason means nothing, last preseason Vince had a QB rating of 91.

If you can get Colston and Brees

As a Romo/Owens owner last season, I can tell you that the combination carried me all season long.

    Fatal Error

My biggest mistake was remembering Shaun Alexander's strong performance in the 2007 playoffs and burning the #8 pick on him. I was this close to picking Westbrook...this close I say!

Which site do you use for fantasy football?

For the price ($70) I haven't seen one I like more than Fanball. This will be my fourth year with them, and I've yet to really have a major problem as Commissioner of the league. That being said I do like MFL as well. The level of customization on there is fantastic.

Last 10 NFL #1 overall picks

I'm not going to say who is better between VY/Bush and Super Mario just because I think it's too early in their careers to do so. But I will add that Mario Williams has become very overrated on here, and everywhere I guess. He's basically only played half a season of really good NFL football. In the first 9 games of 2007 he had 23 tackles + assists and 4.0 sacks. Very ordinary. Now he did go on a monster tear the last 7 games (37 tackles + assists and 10.0 sacks as well as 2 FF), but just cause he had a good 7 games doesn't mean that he was the right pick or he's leaps and bounds above Bush and Young. If you factor in that he was mostly a non-factor his rookie season, I think you'll see why I'm not understanding all the hype. In my opinion all 3 have flashed big potential, but I don't think any of the 3 have put together an entire season of great football.

    Thoughts on the Tennessee Titans...

I'd just like to add that I think Tennessee has developed one of the best young offensive lines in the league. Michael Roos is probably one of the most underrated LTs in the game, and is well on his way to being one of the best. I love the way RT David Stewart plays, he is relentless and nasty, how I like my offensive linemen. I'm hoping they get him signed long-term this offseason. I was kind've worried when they let Jacob Bell walk, but the signing of Jake Scott makes me feel a lot better. Kevin Mawae struggled a little last year, but he did battle through a few injuries. The only question mark is the other guard spot, and I can't wait to see who wins it, Leroy Harris or Eugene Amano. One thing is for certain, Mike Munchak is a top offensive line coach, and always gets the most out of his players. The Titans have done a wonderful job turning late-rounders into top-flight players, and I'm sure Munchak coaches them up greatly. I definitely think the offensive line will be the strength of the team in 2008.
  7. http://www.nashvillecitypaper.com/news.php?viewStory=60112 I'm not sure what it means, but he has obviously worked very hard this offseason. The fact that he's lost 30+ pounds shows he's atleast committed to football, and it's encouraging to hear him and Heimerdinger on good terms. Perhaps this is part of the reason the Titans didn't draft a WR until the 4th? I'll be interested to see what he does this season.

Houston Texans - Who is the #1 RB in 2008?

I would expect Chris Brown to win the starting job out of training camp. But surely the Texans aren't stupid enough to rely on him for 20 carries a game, which is why I expect Brown to get 12-14 carries, Ahman to get 5-6, and Slaton to get 5-6 as well. Until one of them gets injured, and with this trio it's 100% guaranteed, the Texans backfield will be useless fantasy-wise. I wouldn't mind picking Chris Brown late, since he will come super cheap, and he has a little bit of upside. I'd have to watch Slaton in training camp and preseason before I draft him.
  9. Just read the Tennessean this morning, Heimerdinger sounds pumped about getting Chris Johnson. He said that they may be able to line Johnson up at WR, which is great.
  10. Looks like we just got our replacement for Ben Hartsock. Craig Stevens TE California The extra blocking should help our run game. Alge isn't a bad blocker either. Two TE sets here we come! They must think we'll be ok with Gage and Roydell....I don't know that I share that optimism. I will say that the duo isn't as bad as some think. They both came on very nicely towards the end of the season, particularly Gage.
  11. As a Tennessean I can tell you that I watched a lot of Vanderbilt games. Earl Bennett has great hands, which are probably his greatest strength. In fact I've heard it said by many that he probably had the best hands in the draft. While he's not the fastest player on the field, he's a great route runner, and he knows how to get open. He reminds me a lot of Anquan Boldin in that way. He was literally the only thing Vanderbilt had on offense, and he was still able to dominate the league. He played against top competition in the SEC and did very well. As far as negatives, well at 5'11" he's not the biggest guy, and though he ran better than I expected at the combine, he's doesn't have gamebreaking speed. I'll definitely be following him in the next few years. I was actually hoping the Titans would grab him in the 2nd, but I guess they didn't want to get caught up in the run of WRs.
  12. NO!!! Oh well, the Bears just got a good player. Now the 3rd round WRs left are looking like Manningham, Doucet, Franklin, Caldwell.
  13. And anybody who thinks Chris Johnson won't help Vince out way more than a WR is out of their mind. Chris Johnson has a type of speed that doesn't come around very often. He has the versatility to do a lot of things on the football field. I hope they utilize him kinda like the Saints use Reggie Bush. Swing passes out of the backfield just became a staple of the Titans playbook...I honestly can't wait to see this guy play. Now if we can just get Earl Bennett...
  14. I'd love the Titans to get Earl Bennett in the 3rd. I'm thinking they'd have to trade up though, which Mike Reinfeldt hasn't really shown a willingness to do in his short tenure. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Chris Johnson pick. I do think they probably could've traded down and still got him, but you've got to have a willing partner as well. I said going into the offseason the #1 need on the Titans was SPEED. I think Chris Johnson could be extremely versatile. I could see him being split wide on occasion, and the Titans may design a few plays just to get the ball in his hands. I think this signing helps Vince more than any WR would, altleast next season, since WRs usually take time to develop. The defense will have to account for a guy with game-breaking speed at all times. Also I'd like to see the competition between him and Carr as to who gets the return duties. I don't think Carr has a big contract, so it wouldn't kill the Titans to let him go if Johnson proves to be the better guy. The Titans return game was BAD BAD BAD last season. Vince and the offense will be much better just having the better field position, which I think Carr/Johnson will bring. I can't remember a time when we really flipped field position last season through a really good return, which hurt our offense big time down the stretch. As for Jason Jones, I honestly don't know much about the kid. The Titans do however have a pretty good record on identifying offensive and defensive linemen lately, so I'll trust them on this one. Jim Washburn is a great coach who always seems to get the best out of his players.

    Steve McNair retires

Yeah, I just watched the "Back in the Day" thing, that was pretty cool. I loved the high school state championship part. Mcnair to Mcnair to McNair to the WR...cracked me up. I love the big 70 yard rush TD he had vs. the Bucs as an Oiler. I had forgotten all about that play. That game was really his "coming out" party. That may now be my favorite McNair play

    Steve McNair retires

As a Titans fan, this is probably my favorite McNair play ever. The game didn't work out as I'd like it, but it was definitely the most exciting game I can remember. Check it out at 1:57 http://youtube.com/watch?v=I1oK2xo2WK0

What slow rb would you take a chance on?

I think if the passing game ever got going for TN Lendale could average 4.0 YPC. A lot of people don't realize that he faced a stacked box all season long. But until VY and the gang show any improvement he'll never be better than a #2 RB for fantasy.

    Steve McNair retires

Yep. Ki-Jana went #1, but Steve was the first QB taken at #3 and then Kerry Collins lasted till #5 (Carolina). It was a bold move to take McNair over Collins at #3. Picking a guy from such a small school over a guy from Penn State was definitely a risk. They luckily brought him along slowly, something more coaches should do these days. I really think it paid off in the end with him sitting the first few years.

    Steve McNair retires

You obviously have not been watching football very long. Steve McNair was one of the most exciting players in the league from 1999-2003. That's what's sad, all the people will remember the game-manager that he became the last two years, and won't remember how he put the Titans on the map and was a one-man offense during his MVP season. He's definitely one of my favorite all-time players.

    Monday Night Football schedule

I do agree that they could surprise, but I wouldn't be shocked if they are a better team with a worse record than last year. Fact is they played two of the worst divisions in football last season (AFC East, NFC West), and the AFC North also had a down year as well.

I wonder what teams will not get a primetime game this season? My vote goes to Baltimore and Atlanta, maybe St. Louis or KC.

    2007 NFL Backdraft

A lot of teams simply don't value the position of linebacker that highly. It's rare for an LB to be a top 5 pick, no matter how good they are.
  24. Speaking of Lendale, anybody seen him in the new Snoop video? Don't know when it was filmed, but if Lendale has been getting in shape, it doesn't really show up in this video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ai7ASY3HWCw It should be at about the 1:16 mark...
  25. If the Titans spend another 1st or 2nd on a RB, then they will officially become the Lions of the RB position. That will be 3 straight 1st or 2nd round picks. As a Titans fan, I hated the Chris Henry pick last season. It was such a waste. I'm confident that if he was their guy they could've watited till the 3rd to get him, or maybe traded up in the 3rd. The value was just not there for me as a 2nd round pick. I thought Lendale played well last year, and despite his YPC being a little low, he almost never lost yards, and played very tough. Many people forget that Lendale faced 8-9 in the box for most of the season. Hopefully with Heimerdinger back the offense will be opened up a bit and focus on downfield passing, not WR screens. IF Lendale is still the guy, then I could see him having a better season than last. But he obviously has conditioning issues. I thought he started out the season in poor shape, but as the season wore on he did seem to look better, and he did get better as the game wore on, which is key to any Fisher coached team, who wants to control the clock. You would think his poor start and the knee-jerk reaction of drafting Chris Henry last season would've motivated him to come to camp in better shape. We shall see.
