  1. I doubt he's THAT torn up about his father-in-law..

    How can you say that??!

w.r.t. Bjax, I'm a fan of him but so far he's been taking his lumps in training camp. Reports say he's consistently been getting schooled trying to pick up blitzes...I can only say, I hope he improves, and better to take his lumps now so he can pull out of that rut. This means, I doubt he's value as a fantasy pick before the 7th/8th round. I would target him mid-8th; his stock, IMO, has only dropped recently. We'll see if he can pick it back up but as of now, it seems ridiculous that some people are saying he could/should go in the 5th roundish.

  2. I read on SI.com today in the Lions training camp postcard that QB Drew Stanton had been placed on IR, meaning he's out for the season. I had no idea he was even injured.

As bad as Quinn's start in Cleveland is, this seems like a horrible way to start your career for what could turn out to be the Lion's QB of the future...that's what he was drafted for, right? Not purely a fantasy question, but how long is Kitna supposed to hold down the job? What does the Lion's QB position look like in the next few years?

  3. man... fire... wheel...

that rumor is probably already on at least the 2nd page of this forearm it's been so beaten to death...

but at least this one has a little more substance...

I've seen people talk about this 'bored' so many times I've lost count, but that's the first time I've seen 'forearm.' Not trying to pick anything, but just wondering things like 'bored' are intentional? If so, what's the history behind it? I'm curious.

  4. So basically, it's a fair risk to take guys like CJ and AP early. I've noticed Calvin taken in the 5th quite a few times, and some people seem really high on him, pointing to Randy Moss's rookie season. FFtoday has incredibly low projections for Calvin though.

I guess it depends on what your expectations are. If you're counting on rookies to carry you through the season and get you into the playoffs, you might want to re-think your strategy. But if you can get your key veteran pieces and throw in some promising rookies, you may have the recipie for a champion.

I agree, and expectations are mostly defined by draft position...so I think it's not a bad idea to take some rookies after the 12th round or so, even though they are more low profile. In an August mock last year, MJD fell to me in the 13th round. It seems like the rookies we're centered on this year are the high-profile ones - Calvin, AP, Lynch especially.

But what about guys like, say, Chris Henry? Greg Olsen? Ahmad Bradshaw? :dunno: Probably not at the QB position, but I think Henry might be worth the risk in late rounds, with better upside than LenDale White or Chris Brown.

  5. Yeah, in all the mocks I've done, I haven't noticed TEs going this early...Winslow in the 7th perhaps, and he's one of the first TEs off the board after Gates. Hard to imagine a round 6 run on TEs...hey, it could happen. Still think I'd hold off - and do as you suggested, settle for someone in the 9th or 10th.

  6. Of the players mentioned so far in this thread (only serious suggestions included), here is how they rank league-wide according to the couchscout.com link:

    gopanthers! - Reggie Bush - #34, 3rd among RBs

gopanthers! - Steve Smith - #268, way down the list of WRs

gopanthers! - Chad Johnson - #562, way down the list of WRs

    XToday - Yamon Figurs - #12, 6th among WRs

bswarriors - obscure DB from indy - (Tim Jennings) #5, tied for 3rd among DBs

    bswarriors - Alvis Whitted - #2, 1st among WRs

itsbigmoni - Bucs olympic sprinter in camp - (Mark Jones?) #84, 40th among WRs

CurleyQ and xenophobe - Devin Hester - #90, 41st among WRs

mggoilers - Jerome Mathis - #5, tied for 2nd among WRs

remote controller and xenophobe - Ted Ginn Jr - #126, way down the list of WRs

    frank - Willie Parker - #134, 10th among RBs

    bswarriors won this thread!

The Olympic sprinter is Justin Gatlin, I believe. One of the fastest men in the world.

  7. I like the strategy of drafting QBs late; this year I've been shooting for Rivers/Manning typically (I would maybe, but reluctantly go for a 2nd year, and probably not as my #1). I'd also avoid Trent Green because of durability concerns and...we'll see if he can give me more confidence come September.

But anyways, I first started following this strategy last year, and it didn't work out for me at all. Which is why I'm a little worried. I ended last year with Eli/Rivers somehow, but coming out of the draft, I thought I had two stud QBs in the 6th and 7th....

    ....

    ....their names were....

....Jake Plummer and Drew Bledsoe.

(To be fair, this is mainly an issue with job security, age, and the presence of a young up-and-comer. For these reasons I'm going to avoid Green, Kitna, and McNabb if concerns about his health start swirling, and Losman if they start talking about Trent Edwards having a fantastic camp/preseason...I seem to remember Bill Parcells saying no way he was going to pull Drew Bledsoe. And then he did.)

  8. Johnson had already had been suspended for the first eight games of the 2007 NFL season for violating probation on a gun charge. He spent two months in jail and was released in May.

Last December, police raided the 300-pound Johnson's suburban Chicago home and found six unregistered firearms -- a violation of his probation on an earlier gun charge.

Two days after the December raid, Willie B. Posey, Johnson's bodyguard, was shot and killed in an early morning fight while he and Johnson were at a Chicago nightclub.

Yeah, way to go, Bears. Can't believe you cut such an upstanding citizen! For shame. :dunno:

  9. Vince Young is not Michael Vick.

For one thing, Young actually can put a little touch on the ball.

    Also, Young is more durable.

More importantly, Vince Young is a proven winner with intangibles. I know that might not convert directly to FF production, but I believe that it does indirectly through good karma.

Speaking of karma, Young is much less likely to end up in prison.

I wouldn't draft Young early because I wouldn't draft any QB early, but he could be a steal in later rounds

    :dunno: Agree.

But on the durability, I have to say Vince is more likely to end up with a season-ending injury by week 5.

  10. ....don't try to tell me it doesnt exist. works every year without fail.

Yeah. I'm not really a believer in the Madden curse, but remember last year guys? SA #3! Don't worry! The curse is just a silly thing! SA is a stud! Take him at 3!

    :dunno:

  11. I am in a 12 team, ppr keeper league. We start 1 qb, 2rb, 2wr,1 flex, 1 te, 1 d, 1k. We have to keep 3 of our players, however I have 4 quality backs : westbrook, parker, maroney and mcgahee. Since I am forced to drop one of them, I was considering packaging two of them to get one of the top three. Last week a deal for tomlinson was presented to me for westbrook and parker, however the guy came to his senses last minute and took it off the table. Now someone has offered me steven jackson, he has specified he does not want mcgahee. He has asked me for parker and maroney but also stated that if I wanted to keep one of the younger guys he might consider taking westbrook instead.

My current offer to him is westbrook and mcgahee. I will do this trade without a doubt. If I give him parker and maroney I will be left with mcgahee, jackson and westbrook, pretty sick in a ppr league but westbrooks injury problems always concern me. If I give him westbrook and maroney, I will be left with jackson, parker and mcgahee. He will keep my two backs and larry fitz if we do the deal, but he will now be forced to cut roy williams. If I do not pull the trigger on this deal, my keepers would be westbrook, parker and maroney, I would cut mcgahee.

what do u guys think?? is it a fair trade for me?? and if so which two backs should I give up?? thanks for any feedback

IMO, give up Maroney and Westbrook if he won't take McGahee (otherwise, do that)...then be happy with SJax, Parker, and McGahee (or Maroney otherwise)...least risk for you, biggest chance he gets screwed if Westbrook/Maroney go down or bust. Rather do Westbrook/McGahee though.

  12. Yep. The advantage of both of those is live drafts. 45/60 seconds between picks.

It looks like FFcalculator is incredibly buggy though...I was drafting...made my first two picks...then midway through the 3rd round it got stuck at someone else's pick, nothing happened. I was like, "WTF?" and apparently three rounds had gone by, we were actually in round 6, and the comp drafted a bunch of players for me whom I wasn't targeting.

My experience with mockdraft central has been overwhelmingly positive, though.

  13. I have on occasion taken Bell as my 3rd RB :bench: But I think I'll try to stay away from this as...it seems really unclear what the RB situation for Detroit will be. I heard that Bell was looked at as the starter...but does anyone really know??

  14. If his role in the backfield gets increased, he'll see more rushing yards - but at the expense of Deuce's production. I'm not too clear cut on what their respective roles are, but it still seems to be fairly even split. I doubt they repeat last year to both be top end starting RBs.

I think it's hard to say with receptions. IMO, he could easily reach 88 again, or he could drop down to the 60s. TDs are hardest to say. I would not feel comfortable taking him in the first...unless it's on the turn.
