Only FF fans can appreciate this

oh, and fantasy guys who "Know" what they are doing can foresee injuries and such? how does it make you any smarter drafting earlier? I;m sure you had Mike BEll winning the starting job...and any potential injuries that happen...you see into the future for those as well???? the playing field is level no matter WHEN you draft. everyone is privvy to the same info. all yo udo by drafting early is run the risk of a guy playing in an unnecessary game, and getting injured without need. So was the guy who drafted Portis early an idiot?

Didn't someone here say Reps wouldn't support Lieberman?

torture when used correctly is a good thing. thank goodness for wire taps! as for racism...yeah, thats a bad thing. i'll give you that one. but at least we agree that Dane Cook rocks! i am one of those Connecticut independents, leaning towards Republican on most things...but Lieberman will have my vote. period. Schlessinger has no chance, and Lamont is harmful if swallowed. good for a candidate to find "Middle ground", where most of America is. granted, he is still polarized on SOME issues, but he's proven he's willing to work with the "Other side of the aisle" on a lot of issues. GO JOE!

    Worst pick ever made?

the worst we saw was a guy who took Warrick Dunn with the 4th overall pick in the 1st round. not as bad as some of these, but pretty friggin bad. last year someone drafted Frisman Jackson. then FJ had ONE good game, and he didnt even start him...started him like the next 10 weeks though, saying that Fj was "Due" to blow up again. btw- just a note. did you notice how everyone on here says "We had this guy who..."...its never "I", its "This guy who"...someone out there is that guy! SHOCKING that no one is "That guy". i know I'm not! it really was "Some guy who..." in our league.

    Offensive Line...

i'd stay away from Emmitt Smith more for the fact that he's RETIRED over his O Line sucking. but yes, you have to consider offensive lines when drafting RB's and QB's as well. the problem is, there has traditionally not been a way to evaluate the impact of OLines. there are methods out there, but only 1 is good, and i can't discuss it, due to rules of this board that i just learned last week. but if you have lines ranked, consider those. don't let them sway you COMPLETELY- a great back can overcome a bad line sometimes...but definetly consider them.

    All That Planning for Nothing!

thats a fine team. you did the right thing. you don't want to over-reach for an RB thats going to put up 5th round points, and pass up a top 5 WR... the BEST strategy I think would be to play them like crazy, get a ton of points for TO, then trade him about half way through the season, before he melts down. Thats IF your #2 RB situation isn't working out. he should have high trade value, as i think he'll start out the season on a good note. invariably, players get hurt. and an owner thats 3-5 and desperate to make the playoffs will likley be willing to trade an RB for TO if TO is playing well. since he'll be scoring well, you should be able to command a high price for him, such as a better #2 RB, and a solid #2 WR... you did better than sticking to a STRICT structure for drafting. you HAVE to be flexible, and see whats available when you draft. but again- its a great start, play it out, see how it goes, and if you still feel you need value, trade him.

Steven Jackson at #4 - no brainer!

You take LaMont at 4, and your league entry fee is pretty much a donation! your other owners will thank you! Lamont is on the worst team in the AFC this year! he may do fine, but no WAY he's fantasy's #4 back! make sure you draft Rolf Benershke in Round 2! and "Handcuff" Lamont Jordan with Marcus Allen. your post made my head spin...just bizarre...

    No Love for Edge

i initially had James ranked 6th (Behind the big 3, Portis & Barber)...but now i slipped him lower, not sure eaxctly where right now. he is in flux. but i've moved Jackson ahead of him, at least. his O Line will not give him a lot of help. he's going to have to earn his yards this year. his defense will be fine, so Arizona will BE in a lot fo games this year, not having to throw all the time. but that O Line raises a LOT of questions. he's still a first round back, but late in the 1st round, at best. i could see his value slip into the 2nd round, but you KNOW someone out there will draft him in round 1. it just won't be me, as i pick 2nd...

    Online Draft

Our league has used fanball 4 years in a row. invariably, sonething goes wrong. the draft board freezes, the chatroom freezes, something happens that makes it difficult for owners. as the commisioner, i've had to halt the draft every year. that said, its a good site overall. easy to use, good interface, and when the live scoring works, its pretty quick. (It works about 80% of the time). the main appeal though is the cost. the owners love not having to pitch in much of their money for site maintenance. more $$$ for the pot at the end of the season. here's a good site- REALTIME SPORTS, or i think its RTSports.com. good site, easy to use, and i don't think its ever crashed in the 4 years i've played in that one (Player in RT, Commish in Fanball). RTSports is a little pricier, but you get good bang for your buck.

My friend Greg Zolan passed away tonight....

I only joined about 2 weeks ago, but i remember the 1st thread i read actually was about Greg. It was a sobering thread to start with, but it really got me grounded in keeping things in perspective. I'll keep him in my thoughts. Here's wishing his family the best. May they live their lives to the best of their fullest, and remember him with love, honor, and respect. Greg, We here in the "Beer is Fun" FFL Salute you.

How Does NoN PPR effect the draft?

in the past, PPR has made a significant difference between RB's & WR's. we dont do PPR for RB's at all, but we do 0.5 for WR's. that brings the average of the top 24 WR's (or so) up by 2-4 points a game. our WR's are now evenly valued with the RB's, but without the PPR, RB's greatly overshadowed WR's. out of our top 36 scorers, (3 rounds worth of picks) there used to be only 3 WR's! now there are 11. MUCH more equity. PPR makes a big difference in overall scoring. devalues WR's considerably. At least it does in our league. i would guess other leagues would see similar impacts- we use standard scorin gother than our 0.5 PPR for WR's & TE's.

Don't think Chester Taylor will get vultured?

thats because that's all they ever HAD in Philly. ui think Taylor will do great, and the presense of Richardson will HELP Taylor. Richardson is a career blocking back, no reason to think that will change in Minny. he's a great blocking back- ask Holmes how much of a help he was the past eyars. Taylor will have a good year. i will take him as my #2 back, because he may not last to my 3rd RB pick, and i really want him.

    Mike Vick: Overrated

i see your point now. there is not really any debate that from an NFL viewpoint, Vick is not a good QB....bad at best. from a fantasy perspective, Vick is inconsistent at best, but still scores points, occasionally. with all of that, i don't think he's UNDERRATED. i think he's right where he belongs- right around #20-25 on most boards. he's a 1-week fill in back up QB, which is where QB's in that range go. So could he be had cheap? yeah. i doubt he'll be the #1 guy on many/ if any rosters. he should go in about the 14th round or so, and be a servicable back up. overrated? by NFL standards, yes. fantasy standards, about right. that said, YES, this would be the eyar to pick him up for cheap.
  13. JMaximus12

Well my draft order is set.

Tiki has been awesome...but i read the article (Sorry, no limk to it) about him, basically saying he "Welcomes" a lighter workload this year. that COughlin plans on cutting back at RB, and Tiki wlecome sit. he said he never watns to face that sort of workload again...so my thoughts are his production will be down, just due to that. he's still a solid #1...but i wouldn't pick him at 4.
  14. JMaximus12

Is there one guy that you always have on your roster?

Steelers Defense, if i can help it...i covet them and flaunt my bias to no end. Wow...who knew JESUS CHRIST played fantasy football??? wouldn't want to play in THAT league! guess which owner would get the divine intervention???

    Mike Vick: Overrated

GREAT point, Domino. the problem with VIck is, he'll never be a good QB. he is Kordell Stewart, with faster moves. Vick has had excuse after excuse...learning a new offense, new coach, no WR"s...the litany of excuses is almost as long as Floyd Landis's. but it comes down to him just not being a great QB. he will never develop into that either, and Atlanta fans will have to be happy with his 2 annual "Blow up" games, and no big time wins...because he is not a good enough QB to carry his team.

    strengh of schedule

It's always baffled me how easily influenced people are by SoS. with playoff turnover at about 50% (roughly 5 or 6 new teams a year make the playoffs), the top 12 teams are in a constant state of flux. their defenses can vary wildly, as can their offenses. playing a team wanked #1 last year means NOTHING this year. here's the way to look at it- however you have evaluated your defenses this year, count up the # of games against THOSE top 10 defenses. thats the way i've done it for my board. granted, those rankings are just projections as well, but at least they are PROJECTIONS for 2006, and not straight reflections of 2005.

    Lamont Jordan

i had originally tabbed Jordan at 10, now i have him at 14. he is in trouble, Oakland is in trouble. i know he'll be the main guy there, they've made that abundantly clear. but being the #1 guy doens't automatically translate into success. he'll do well, but not top 10 well. he'd be a strong #2 back, but i'd hate to have him as my #1.

    Fantasy Draft Ethics

this is by far the best way to handle it. if they are uninformed...well, thats just their own fault. stupid is as stupid does.

could musa smith do anything this year?

the story on Musa is that he is the #2 back...Mike Anderson, beileve it or not, hasn't "Earned" the #2 spot, let alone the #1 spot...last i heard from camp, Musa is the back up.
