  1. I'm so sick of seeing projections for 2009 that mirror so closely the final rankings for 2008. For instance, ESPN just posted their QBs as Brees, Brady, Manning, Warner...which (with the exception of an injured Brady), is pretty much how the season ended last year...So for those of you so sick of seeing the same "Bold" Predictions for this upcoming season, I'll offer a different look at things, so feel free to agree, or tear it apart! PPR League

    Running Backs:

    1. Adrian Peterson - 1,600 rushing yards, 16 TDs, 35/400/2 receiving. Too good to be ranked any lower, only injuries can slow him down.

    2. Maurice Jones Drew - 1,300/11 rushing, 55/600/3 receiving. Will get heavier workload, but not buying the breakout, career year like everyone is preaching.

    3. Chris Johnson - 1,350/13 rushing, 40/400/2 receiving. Hard to believe LenWhale will repeat his TD totals.

    4. Frank Gore - 1,200/10 rushing, 60/550/3 receiving. Should be top5 in total touches, just needs to find the endzone.

    5. Brandon Jacobs - 1,350/14 rushing, 20/200/1 receiving. Could have a breakout year without Ward.

    6. Matt Forte - 1,150/9 rushing, 45/400/3 receiving. Can do it all, but should have an easier workload with Cutler there.

    7. DeAngelo Williams - 1,200/11 rushing, 35/300/1 receiving. Hard to repeat 2008, but don't rule him out just cuz of JStew.

    8. Kevin Smith - 1,200/10 rushing, 35/300/1 receiving. Should also be towards the top in touches, if this team can be somewhat more competitive.

    9. Michael Turner - 1,300/12 rushing, 15/100/1 receiving. Hard to repeat 2008, and simply doesn't catch the ball, especially with the explosive Norwood.

    10. Reggie Bush - 800/6 rushing, 90/900/8 receiving. In PPR leagues, he's pretty much a solid #2 WR with 40-70 rushing yards a game.

    11. Steve Slaton - 1,100/9 rushing, 50/400/2 receiving. Durability could be his only issue, as he is young and ultra-talented.

    12. Ryan Grant - 1,150/9 rushing, 35/300/1 receiving. With the emergence of Rodgers, running game could see more holes in '09.

    13. Larry Johnson - 1,200/10 rushing, 25/200/1 receiving. Somethin tells me he has a bounceback year with the addition of Cassel and a young OLine.

    14. Steven Jackson - 1,000/7 rushing, 40/300/3 receiving. (11 games) - Everyone is preaching his ppg #s, but i'll simply point to his games PLAYED.

    15. Brian Westbrook - 900/7 rushing, 45/400/3 receiving. A year older, with a capable backup (for the first time), and emerging WRs means less touches for him.

    16. Felix Jones - 1,100/8 rushing, 35/400/2 receiving. Just a hunch here, I could see him used as the featured back to keep Barber healthy near the goalline/4th quarter. And their OLine is that good.

    Wide Receivers:

    1. Larry Fitzgerald - 95/1,350/13 - Has earned this spot regardless of Boldin's situation.

    2. Calvin Johnson - 90/1,300/12 - Proved that he doesn't need a talented QB to put up top3 numbers.

    3. Steve Smith - 85/1,350/11 - Nearly missed about 5 TDs last year, and I think DEFs will be concentrating on their running game.

    4. Reggie Wayne - 85/1,250/11 - I think a bounceback year is in order for the Colts offense as a whole.

    5. Andre Johnson - 95/1,300/8 - Lack of TDs is what separates him from Fitz and Calvin.

    6. Marques Colston - 85/1,200/10 - Should return to being Brees' favorite target in this high-powered offense.

    7. Dwayne Bowe - 80/1,150/11 - I think he'll emerge as Cassel's favorite target, especially in the red zone.

    8. Randy Moss - 80/1,200/10 - I know Brady is back, but with McDaniels gone, I don't think we'll see such a pass-happy offense anymore.

    9. Terrell Owens - 85/1,250/9 - Has a history of having huge 1st years with his new teams.

    10. TJ Houshwhatever - 90/1,200/8 - I think he establishes a great PPR season with Hasselbeck back to being healthy.

    11. Vincent Jackson - 70/1,100/12 - I don't think the SD running game will step up, so I think Jackson benefits.

    12. Roddy White - 75/1,250/9 - I think it'll be hard for ATL to build on 2008, even though I'm in the minority.

    13. Greg Jennings - 70/1,150/10 - Should have a strong future with Rodgers, but I think the Packers will go back to the running game a lil more.

    14. Chad OchoCinco - 80/1,150/9 - If he stays in Cincy, I think he'll be productive with Palmer back and 100%.

    15. Roy Williams - 75/1,100/10 - I think the Cowboys focus on the run more in '09, but Romo needs to throw to someone.

    Quarterbacks:

    1. Drew Brees - 4,500/34/16 - With a healthy Bush and Colston, I don't see him dropping from the #1 spot.

    2. Peyton Manning - 4,300/32/12 - Should be in for another big year...just look at his stats in '08 once he got healthy.

    3. Aaron Rodgers - 4,200/28/15 - Could emerge as a top5 QB for years to come.

    4. Tom Brady - 4,300/26/14 - Even if he is healthy, I don't think the Pats will throw as much.

    5. Donovan McNabb - 4,000/25/15 - I hate the Eagles, but I think he has some explosive players to throw to.

    6. Carson Palmer - 3,800/27/17 - Could bounce back in a huge way, especially if 85 is still in town.

    7. Kurt Warner - 4,000/24/16 - I don't think he'll put up the #'s with an unhappy Boldin and the addition of Wells to the running game.

    8. Jay Cutler - 3,800/26/13 - Won't have to throw the ball as much as in Denver, but will have more opportunities for TDs.

    9. Philip Rivers - 3,900/24/12 - Will be relied on more now that LT is past his prime.

    10. Tony Romo - 3,650/25/13 - I think the Cowboys will shift to the running game to take some pressure off of Romo.

Just throwin some ideas around, I know some guys seem like reaches, but year after year we see some young guys emerge, old guys rebound, and stars disappoint...Critique Away!

    very nice list.

    a few things:

I disagree on Kevin Smith. I just dont think DET is good enough nor is Kevin Smith to project those numbers.

Dont think Jacobs will be in top-10 in PPR. He may get more carries this year, but wont duplicate 15 TDs. I expect 9-11.

Chris Johnson - Lendale is on contract year and is already working his tail off. Yes, White wont score 15, but i think the team as a whole wont score 20 rushing TDs. White may get 11, CJ3 8. Wont be surprised at all if CJ3 misses games this year too.

TO - ur correct he blows up first year on a new team, but that was with a passing team like PHI and DAL. This is the Bills with a young QB. Dont see him blowin up.

  2. i love the bold picks like Pierre and Larry Johnson. I do like LJ if everything goes well for him in the offseason, not so much with Pierre.

  3. Ok, I've given it a bit of thought and reconsidered a bit...

    1. DeAngelo Williams - In. stays in top 10, but finishes much lower

    2. Michael Turner - In. Turner will break the string of 370/f guys having down seasons and will stay a top 10 back. He's got low mileage except for 1 season and I think he still finishes top 10.

    3. Adrian Peterson - In. top 10 regardless, too talented to keep out.

    4. Matt Forte - In. Stays but drops a bit.

    5. Thomas Jones - Out of the top 10, age and QB/WR concerns will knock the Jets RB's down.

    6. Steve Slaton - Out. Houston is clearly looking for a backfield mate for Slaton, I think because they believe he won't last a whole season.

    7. LaDainian Tomlinson - Out. Reduced role in the Chargers offense and Sproles will push him out finally.

    8. Clinton Portis - Out. Age and nagging injuries are taking their toll on Portis.

    9. Maurice Jones-Drew - In, but I don't think he's going to finish as a top 5 back. J'ville offensive line is worse than advertised, there are no WR, Garrard isn't a great QB and I don't think MJD can do it by himself.

    10. Brian Westbrook - Out. Philly is also clearly looking for someone to lighten the load on Westbrook.

    I've got 5 of last year's top 10 repeating.

Guys most to likely break in:

Joseph Addai, Chris Johnson, Brandon Jacobs, Marion Barber, Kevin Smith, Jonathan Stewart, Rashard Mendenhall, 2 rookies (depends on who ends up where), Ronnie Brown, Marshawn Lynch.

Out of that list, I like Chris Johnson, Kevin Smith, Ronnie Brown, Marshawn Lynch (providing he doesn't get the suspension from Goodell) and one rookie to make the jump. I think the key is guys who are possible three down backs (rules out Addai, Jacobs, Stewart and Mendenhall), don't have a lot of competition (rules out Barber, Stewart, Mendenhall) and aren't huge behemoth backs who get hurt too frequently (rules out Jacobs).

I don't really care about the order, but here's my prediction...

    Top 5 (no particular order):

Peterson, Turner, Chris Johnson, Ronnie Brown, Marshawn Lynch

6 thru 10 (again, no particular order):

MJD, Kevin Smith, Forte, DeAngelo, Rookie to be named later...

if and when Lynch gets suspended, i doubt he gets into top-10.

  4. at this point we're only 1 season into it and there is really nothing which says that Lynch may not turn out to be the better long term back. Lynch performed like a #1 back more consistently than ADP did last year although he obviously didn't have the large explosions that ADP did. And he did so behind a line that is a significant downgrade over the one that ADP runs behind. I had the #3 pick last year and was thrilled to have Lynch fall to me after ADP and Calvin went. Would I have liked to have had ADP, sure. But one season does not a career make...

only injury would DERAIL Peterson's path to greatness. Lynch isn't in the same tier as ADP, fantasy or reality. nowhere close.

  5. I think the report said GMs of teams are speculating it may need surgery. If the guy ran a 4.4 at the combine and had one of the better all around performances I find it a little hard to believe he'll need surgery. If he does, it won't be a major deal in my mind because he'll be ready by August. If you're looking for the instant impact rookie, Stewart might slip for you if he needs surgery. If you're looking for a guy that will be one of the best RBs over the course of a career (from this class) then I'd still draft him high.

He's still my best back in this class until it's confirmed he needs surgery. Even then, he won't slip much. A player with that bad of a toe injury wouldn't be able to run and jump with the explosiveness that he did just a month ago.

from what i know, Stewart didnt run any other drills aside from the 40. I believe he skipped the shuttle and others. Running straight line may not be that much of an issue with the turf toe, but with cutting and all that, it should be worse, hence why he skipped the other drills.

    thoughts?

  6. I still think compared to Dwayne Bowe and Steve Smith that they were overrated considering they were ranked higher than these two. I think Rice has what it takes and as long as Minny as AD and a great o-line, he has a shot to really develop because I would think Minny will take care of their QB situation in the next year or two. He was someone who I thought could be very good, but just not an immediate factor. I'd say from my perspective he was a pleasant surprise, and definitely worth keeping. Although Ginn's stats weren't much different I saw less of him this year. Honestly, I'll have to watch a bit more next year to revise my take on him if I do at all. I still think Miami will need a more reliable play maker at WR for Beck or whomever QB's the team.

    thanks Matt.

Just pre-ordered my RSP, hoping to get the same results as last year !!!!! :music_guitarred:

btw, how does Stewart compare to Lynch in your assessment? seeing Lynch in the pros, looks like Lynch got excellent vision, burst and his quickness in tight spaces. I havent seen much of Stewart so hoping to see how he would compare to a Lynch.

    thanks.

  7. I was surprised, because it didn't appear to translate on the field as well as the workouts. I would speculate there are a couple of reasons:

    1) His vision isn't great, so he may be more hesitant. Remember Mendenhall could not beat out Pierre Thomas last year and Thomas went undrafted. Of course, he apparently was so much better than Antonio Pittman last year that the Saints cut their draft pick saying it was not even close how much better Thomas was.

2)Although quick, I didn't see him show the ability to drop his hips and move side to side in a game situation where he could use a lateral move to cut from one gap to another behind the LOS. He was decent at making a move down field but this was in open space and they weren't sharp cuts as much as they were stutter steps or dips in direction.

I measured Mendenhall with pads on during that USC run for a score and he ran a 4.38 in one stretch of 40 yards and one in the 4.45-4.5 range depending where you start his run. So I wasn't surprised with the 40, but the shuttle was surprising. Then again, Curtis Keaton had a great shuttle too. If I saw Mendenhall show just a bit more in vision or lateral movement, I'd probably be much higher on the guy. I think he'll be a player, I just not sure I see him as one of the top 3-4 backs

    i'm with you on Mendenhall.

off-topic, what do you think about Ginn and Sidney Rice? You had both guys on the overrated list, but I think both showed something last year, especially Rice. I believe both guys may be stars in the league in 2 years.

  8. Well I can see why Baldinger bashed McFadden. I'm watching the game he gave color commentary (The Cotton Bowl loss to Mizzou where he gained 104 yards on 21 carries). In all honestly, he looked pretty bad in the first half. No patience or display of good lateral movement whatsoever. He had a 4-5 opportunities to create better runs than he had, but he either didn't show patience, didn't make a lateral move several other backs could make, or have the vision to see a better gap. Some of this is consistent with his performance in other games I saw, but it's a bit more amplified here. Last year I watched a game against LSU and I thought McFadden looked like the next Dickerson.

I'm beginning to think I may have to watch that game a second time along with a couple of others of his.

I've done this before with some players when something jumped off the page that I either really liked or didn't like about them and felt like I needed to double check my views on the player. MJD was this type of player for me in the opposite sense in which now I'm going to re-open my analysis into McFadden.

thoughts on Mendenhall's shuttle time? looks like he had the best time of all the RBs who did the drill

  9. I have a ground-breaking new league (redraft) that has been put together to allow for creativity in a challenging and competitive league that provides a change-of-pace to the standard leagues I've seen and participated in to-date. What makes this league so different? There are 2 main features: 1) The incredible flexibility of starting lineups, 11 different combinations are possible to allow room for creative strategists who don't necessarily want to follow the norm of practically being forced to draft 2-to-3 RBs right out of the gate.....in The Presidential Suite, you now have options; and 2) At least one owner will be voted out of the league for the following season, "Survivor" style elimination process for all non-playoff qualifiers (League Administrators excluded).....it's nothing personal, if you aren't pulling your weight and competing to the fullest or are a dull, dead-beat type of owner, you gotta go....and even if all 12 owners are great, active, and really likeable, at least 1 still has to go, but will be eligible for re-instatement after a 1-year banishment......in here, the mantra is "ELECTED NOT SELECTED"........

So, if you're ready and willing to step up for a fun, strategic, and ultra-competitive league, shoot me a PM and/or respond here with any comments/questions that you may have concerning the league.

Additionally, the startup Field Of Green Dynasty League ($300/season) has 1 franchise available for it's inaugural season, to kickoff in mid-July (fees due, draft order determined) and draft in early-to-mid Aug. Anyone interested in this league is advised to be in for the long haul once you sign-on (5-yr commit) and you best bring your ultra "A" game (Alternates are also needed, so don't be discouraged if filled as someone almost always drops out once fees are due and I'll immediately start contacting my list of alternates at the deadline)......F.O.G. II ($200 dynasty) will be launched in '09.....maybe '08 depending upon feedback......

If you're interested, you can email me for a copy of either league constitution

  10. Wow kinda fishy. Great league and setup But....

    Both here and footballguys.com http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=312000

You mentioned the same stuff and the same line of how you would not steal due to your reputation. Well how come you are brand new in both forums? Can anyone vouch for you that knows you and is a long time member here or there?

How are you handling this money? Lots of questions but I have to hand it to you very nice league rules.

I am not a regular poster or anything, but i do browse around in ANTS, footballguys and here. A few ppl in ANTS have vouched for myself and the league administrator (who will handle all the fees). I have a few leagues in ANTS and myfantasyleague with some of the regular ants posters.

We have gotten a few people from various sites and just like what i mentioned on earlier posts above, have no hesitation of giving my work, cell# to anyone who would like to get in. I understand that this league is not everyone and the sole purpose of the league is to get a bunch of hardcore competitive active guys in a relatively higher stakes league. We have 9 ppl signed up on the league page in mfl and have 1 email commitment.

Just like what i said on my earlier post....i understand the hesitation since i'm relatively new here. I make 6-figure income (just barely though ), and stealing from ppl aint gonna make me WEALTHY. My morals and reputation are worth more than that.

Come on in, we got 2 spots left.....trying to get this league to be one of the most COMPETITIVE leagues around !!!!! As you can tell, a lot of THOUGHT has been put in the league rules and several teams onboard have put in their 2cents on how to possibly improve the league setup.

if you're seriously interested, here's our email

    oak_assassin@yahoo.com - league administrator

    or

    allan_fern@yahoo.com - myself (commish)

GolfJim above (on this thread) is in. I have spoken to him and is exactly the type of owner we want -- CONFIDENT owner who talks smack right from the get-go

  11. 30? Holy crap! There must be totally junk on teams that big. Ours is 18, and the ends of the bench on most teams is stuff nobody would start.

In the dynasty league i joined last yr, initial roster is 22, and even with that, Waiver-wire action is there. The Leon Washington/Owen Daniels/Devery Henderson were in the waiver and make a good pick-ups in dynasty leagues. It's a different animal than redrafts and actually more fun. I only play 1 redraft league myself and play mostly dynasty --> it's more for the hardcore football guys.

  12. I understand a lot of people's hesitation, like who's this guy (shaqers)....so let me just say that I'm not rich, but I'm doing better than 85-90 of the rest of America in pulling a 6-fig income. Stealing a few hundred dollars from ppl ain't gonna make my day (as my rep and integrity are worth far more than that), but winning $2000 off of $300 will make my day........My motivation is competition, and for these stakes (and commitment), I expect the true competitors to come to the front.... I respect everyone's knowledge, abilities, and perspective. So u can get in, too. So, if you're speaking for yourself and you'd be interested, what would it take to ease your concerns and join in? Short of my home address and phone number, I've already committed myself to share my workplace, cell, and work # with all owners once they've come on board...I understand this is not for everyone....

League is setup in MFL.com already and we got 7 owners committed and signed up.......

need a few more hardcore GUYS up n hereeeeee......

    8 owners in...4 to go...

2 g's is sweet for a 300-buy-in !!! where are all the fftoday hardcore guys?

    step it up...
