    Orton legit

As soon as the nfl gets around to putting the mighty lions on the bears' schedule 16 times in one season, Orton will be better than Brees and Elway and Montana and Marino and Young and Unitas and Favre and Staubach and Fouts and Tarkenton and.........

    Tailgating - cold food ideas?

Here is what you need as long as small sterno cans used to heat food don't get you in trouble. A party pack of chafer trays. You cook some items ahead of time and reheat them with the chafer/sterno setup. You can buy frozen things like wings, meatballs and mac+cheese (Sam's Club, Gordon's Food Service, Costco) which come in aluminum tins which fit right into the chafers. It couldn't be easier. http://www.reliablepaper.com/ProductDetail...1&Click=671 or this: http://www.partyinakit.com/modules/cart/pr...name/ChafingSet I got my set at a Party City store. Sam's Club, Wal-Mart or Target might have them too. Of course you can order online as well. We use them every time we have a party at home too.
  5. While Muhsin only caught 6 passes last week, he was targeted 15 times which was the 2nd most of any receiver in the league. http://www.carolinagrowl.com/Read.aspx?Story=732 He plays at home against his old team and Steve Smith is still out.
  6. Why wasn't the Titans D ranked higher coming into this season? I believe they were 2nd in int's and 6th in sacks last year. They have studs like Haynesworth, Vanden Bosch and Bullock. They also aquired Nick Harper. They beat up on the Jags last week. This could be an elite D.

    kick return scoring

My league awards points based on punt and kick return averages, not total kick return yards. The points are part of the defense's scoring.

Bears sign Marty Booker and Brandon Lloyd

People are not just ripping who the bears actually signed. It's also who they didn't sign. Signing Marty Booker and Brandon LLoyd represents a real lack of effort/will/desire (??) to get a top reciever. I do understand that signing a top wr loses some of its luster when there is no qb to get him the ball, so I don't blame the bears for not breaking the bank on one at this point. Just don't get excited over or overrate Booker and Lloyd. Essentially they are just 2 warm bodies. As far as the bears' 2007 season goes, you've got 2 'ifs' and several injury excuses in there. Shoulda, coulda, woulda. Who is not being objective? We could play the 'if' game all day. If Devin Hester hadn't returned so many kickoff for tds, the bears' record would have been worse. If the bears hadn't had a creampuff schedule in '06, they wouldn't have made it anywhere near the superbowl, and on and on and on and on and on. That's pointless.

Bears sign Marty Booker and Brandon Lloyd

Wow. Just when I thought that the bears could not get any more pathetic, they do this. I started to think that they were deliberately trying to make it impossible for Grossman to succeed but then that would leave them with Orton. They must be targeting a qb in this or next year's draft.

  18. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/22/sports/f...html?ref=sports Under Belichick, the Patriots have often run a no-huddle offense, which forces opponents to quickly call a defensive play. N.F.L. rules allow quarterbacks to hear instructions from coaches — through a headset and into a speaker in the quarterback’s helmet — until there are 15 seconds left on a play clock. When the defensive play call is deciphered, the Patriots could call a play to counteract. The Patriots lost the 2000 opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when videotape of signals was used in preparation, according to the former Patriots player, who was among several former players interviewed by the N.F.L but said he did not want to speak publicly because the investigation is continuing.
  19. Some excerpts: There are some notably sane Dolphin alums. Jim Mandich, a tight end on that '72 team, comes to mind. When recently asked how that team would do against these Patriots, he responded: "They would kick our (butts) from one side of the field to the other." Still, Mandich's teammates seem incapable of acknowledging the obvious. "The weight issue is overstated," the Dolphins' old center, Jim Langer, told The Miami Herald. "Another 50 pounds doesn't mean a damn thing. It's all about leverage." Said Bob Kuechenberg, once a guard: "If we play under the old rules" — basically enabling the defense to beat up receivers all over the field — "we win going away." Back in 1989, Steve Sabol of NFL Films came up with an elaborately modeled computer program featuring 20 of the greatest NFL teams in an elimination tournament. According to Dave Hyde's Still Perfect: The Untold Story of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, Shula detested the idea, and kept calling Sabol to see how the computer was treating his legacy. "That team never got the credit it deserved," he would say. Still, the computer Dolphins won every "game" until the very last, when they lost to the '78 Steelers. Not long after that Dream Bowl, as it was called, Sabol made the mistake of picking up his phone. It was Shula, hollering in what Hyde would describe as "a voice of rage." "What kind of computer is that?" he asked. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7718954?MSNHPHMA

More evidence the '72 dolphins are tools

You are correct but it just keeps rolling in: Kiick asked what rules would be in effect for that fantasy meeting between the teams. Would it be the 1972 set that allowed defensive backs to mug receivers all the way down the field and offered no special protection for quarterbacks, or the current-day set that promotes offense? "Does Tom Brady get to wear a skirt?" Kiick said. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hiSrpKa...lkXZxAD8UI1I200 And here's some sanity from a player of that era: The debate about how the undefeated 2007 Patriots stack up against the undefeated 1972 Dolphins runs largely along generational lines, as the people voting for the Dolphins as the superior team are the people who were alive to see them. However, one player who not only saw the '72 Dolphins but also played against them says it's not even close: These Patriots would kill those Dolphins. Former Vikings defensive end Jim Marshall, who signed autographs Wednesday night to raise money for the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund, said there's no comparison between the two teams. "The '72 Dolphins wouldn't get a first down against the Patriots," Marshall said. When I asked him if he was sure the Dolphins wouldn't have any chance against the Patriots, he put his thumb and forefinger half an inch apart and said, "Not even a small one." http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2008/01/31/...a-first-down-a/

    Super Bowl "Sunday" SUCKS

I actually heard on Mike and Mike in the Morning that the nfl is looking into moving the superbowl to a saturday. Part of the reasoning was that the cost to U.S. companies in lost productivity on the following monday is in the billions. Many of those companies are associated in some way with superbowl sponsorship. Also, with the game on sunday, thousands of workers must automatically miss the monday workday as they must travel on that day.

More evidence the '72 dolphins are tools

Still more: “How elated will you be if the Giants do pull the upset?” someone asks the old Dolphins coach Don Shula. “I’m going to be at the game,” Shula says. “I’ll be jumping up down.” http://www.kansascity.com/sports/football/story/466995.html Classy until the end, Don. Under the rules in place in 1972, "defences could hit receivers any place on the field," Anderson said. "We couldn't hit them in the back or when the ball was in the air, but you could knock a receiver down, and then someone else could knock him down." If the Dolphins could use those rules to defend Patriots receivers Randy Moss and Wes Welker, "I think we probably could win," defensive tackle Manny Fernandez said. "Under the current rules, it would be really tough. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady would just shred our secondary." http://www.canada.com/theprovince/news/spo...10-b2f3fdcc1f9a

More evidence the '72 dolphins are tools

Notice first that VaTerp does not attack or refute any information that I have posted. He (he?) attacks me. Weak. I never posted anything about the '72 dolphins without proof or evidence or something close to it. Witness: Fact 1: One of the easiest schedules of all-time "The biggest negative on the '72 Dolphins' résumé is the strength, or lack thereof, of their schedule. While it's true that they could only play who was scheduled, it's also true that with an opponents' winning percentage of .396, the Dolphins' schedule was one of the easiest since 1950. How easy? Basically, 99 percent of the teams since 1950 had a more difficult season schedule than the 1972 Dolphins. That is a very easy schedule." http://espn.go.com/nfl/s/epstein/72dolphins.html Fact 2: Shula thinks the pats should have an asterisk, yet the dolphins were caught cheating and had to give up a draft pick: "It also should be noted that Shula's own Dolphins once were caught cheating. The team was forced to give its first-round pick in the 1971 draft to the Baltimore Colts for tampering with Shula, who was under contract with Baltimore. Perhaps if the Dolphins had not tampered, Shula would have not become their coach, and 1972 never would have happened." http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/cs-07...chi_sports_util Fact 3: Mindless, delerious statements from whiny idiots (I haven't even bothered to include Mercury Morris comments) "The weight issue is overstated," the Dolphins' old center, Jim Langer, told The Miami Herald. "Another 50 pounds doesn't mean a damn thing. It's all about leverage." Said Bob Kuechenberg, once a guard: "If we play under the old rules" — basically enabling the defense to beat up receivers all over the field — "we win going away." "What kind of computer is that?" he asked. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7718954?MSNHPHMA They don't sound like whiny tools and idiots? Whether the patriots win or not, it's time for these bitter old fools to shut up.
