  1. Interesting post ... let's work through this:

First off, our definite keepers ... Check Willie Parker ... Ronnie Brown finally has his chance to flourish as a stud runningback prospect, now that Cam Cameron is his head coach, plus the offensive line will only get better, so I'd be eager to hang onto him (too bad it's not a PPR league) ... I'd keep Clinton Portis as well, he can likely finish as a Top 10 back every year, and I suspect Bill Cowher will replace Joe Gibbs in Washingon after this season so Portis will still be on a team that is dedicated to running the ball ... and of course, Antonio Gates has to be kept, he's the Marvin Harrison of tight ends imo and prodcues like a WR1 (especially as San Diego doesn't have a receiving option anywhere near his ability).

So that makes four definite keepers of Willie Parker, Ronnie Brown, Clinton Portis, and Antonio Gates. Your RB core is three-deep with potential/likely RB1s, which is excellent, and you've got a stud receiving option for the future.

As for the rest, let's see. If we pick a 5th keeper, that's at the cost of a 2nd round pick.

Is Torry Holt worth a 2nd round pick in a non-PPR 10-team league? He'd probably fall to the 3rd round, I would think. He has some durability issues, and while Marc Bulger is signed long-term, the state of the Rams offensive line is a key factor. Remember, you've got your RB core set and you can use your 1st round and 2nd round picks elsewhere.

Is Marques Colston worth a 2nd round pick in a non-PPR 10-team league? I don't think so, quite honestly. Especially with how the Saints look now.

Now, is the pair of Torry Holt and Marques Colston worth a 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick? Hmm, maybe. Depending on how many receivers the other nine owners are keeping for themselves, I suppose. And if Holt and Colston show you enough before the end of the season to make that decision.

    Hope that helps.

  2. I think Cleveland Browns runningback Jason Wright would be my number one Week 6 waiver wire/free agent fill-in at RB in general, given the match-up against the Miami Dolphins and if Jamal Lewis isn't fully healthy.

As to the rest of your list, my next tier would consist of Chris Brown and Kenny Watson. Titans coach Jeff Fisher will likely opt for Brown's speed to match up against the quick Tampa Bay Bucs defense, behind one of the best offensive lines in the league. I would think the Chiefs will play a good deal of Cover 2 with a relatively deep two safety shell, thanks to the deep threat of Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmanzadeh: which favors the running game of the Bengals and check-downs to the runningbacks among other possible candidates (PPR league?).

The rest would follow, I suppose.

  3. Waiver wire/free agent pick-ups, perhaps?

I see that the Cleveland Browns play at the St. Louis Rams in Week 8, Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow Jr. should provide a great day for Derek Anderson. Conversely, the Browns pass defense currently leads the league in most passing touchdowns allowed (15), whoever is the Rams quarterback that day - Bulger or Frerotte - will have a good day too, I would think.

Whoever is playing quarterback for the Buffalo Bills is playing at the New York Jets, there's a favorable match-up as the Jets frankly suck. Maybe the Jets quarterback could be a pick-up, depending on how well the Bills secondary is playing at that point.

You might also look at the San Francisco 49ers, who are playing the not-so-great New Orleans Saints pass defense at home. Alex Smith says he's looking to be ready in time for the Week 7 game at New York (Giants). We'll see, I guess. Vernon Davis should be healthy and playing in that game probably, which will help the quarterback.

  4. As a Henry owner myself, I just recently packaged Henry, Selvin Young, and the Eagles defense (a PPR keeper league which awards 2 points per sack among its defensive scoring) in an offer for Larry Johnson. The LJ owner is considering it at the moment, we'll see what happens.

I could afford to trade the Eagles defense, which I drafted, as I picked up the Giants defense this past week and I believe the Seahawks defense is available in the waiver/free agent pool.

  5. Engram should've been picked up when Hackett got hurt but now with Branch out he may be tough to get. The guy never drops any passes and gets plenty of targets regardless. I think he'll have something solid like 7/75 TD and if Burleson keepings dropping balls it could be even better.

I thankfully picked up Engram a few weeks ago, he's been very productive for my team which hasn't been notably productive receiving-wise.

  6. Sucks that he'll miss the New Orleans game and I think it's the Rams after that, those were fantastic match-ups for him.

Definitely pick up Bobby Engram off the waiver wire, he's Hasselbeck's favorite receiver - especially on third downs.

  7. There's a blurb on Rotoworld that Huard has been ruled out for next week and Brodie Croyle is getting the start. We'll see, I guess.

Chiefs rule out Huard; Croyle to start v. CIN

The Chiefs have ruled Damon Huard (shoulder) out for Week 6. Brodie Croyle will start against the Bengals.

Depending on how he fares against Cincinnati's porous defense, this could mean that Croyle will start for the rest of the season. Coach Herm Edwards acknowledged that when Croyle comes in he adds a noticeable spark to the offense. Huard will have an MRI Monday to determine the extent of his injury. Oct. 7 - 11:58 pm et

  8. Out of curiousity, I took a look at LJ's stats last year:

The first five games of the season, Weeks 1-6:

105 carries for 357 yards (3.4 avg) and 3 touchdowns

23 receptions for 274 yards and 1 touchdown

The rest of the season thereafter, Weeks 7-17:

    311 (!) carries for 1432 yards (4.6 avg) and 14 touchdowns

18 receptions for 136 yards and 1 touchdown

  9. The run blocking was still poor yesterday, but the line pass blocked well enough to win that game. Brees just didn't play well, and that's not a good sign. Of course, the continued drops by the receivers and the penalties committed by the offense were still killers.

  10. If anything, yesterday's game provides strong evidence that the Falcons are tanking the season. Nevermind Alge Crumpler essentially saying the same thing in his post-game comments.

And ironically on the same day Kris Brown delivers three (!) 50-plus-yards field goals. The same Kris Brown who threw games in 2005 so that the Texans could have the first overall pick.

    Go figure.

  11. I've been wondering if I should go after LJ right now, in a trade involving Travis Henry/Selvin Young on my part. I don't feel comfortable trusting the Rat once Henry goes down to suspension, I don't like Denver's remaining schedule as much as I do that of Kansas City, and the Chiefs actually have a defense that can allow LJ to touch the ball in all four quarters (yesterday didn't look it, though).

I might be better served going after someone like Clinton Portis though, who has a much better offensive line.

  12. As a Colts fan myself, with the news of today, I'm not expecting Addai, Harrison, Sanders, and Keiaho to play.

Maybe there's a slight chance for Addai or Harrison, if by Sunday morning there are so recovered that they can convince the coaching staff to let them play, but as I said I'm not counting on it.

  13. I'm not sure who if anybody really saw this coming, even though we all knew he was one positive test result away from a year-long suspension.

I'm just glad I handcuffed Henry with Selvin Young.
