Denver vs Baltimore Week 1 - In-game Discussion

Please Lord let Woodyard be OK. Man what a tool for doing that. That cost me quite a bit as a Denver D owner in two leagues.

My opponent benched Peyton Manning last minute tonight

If RG3 outscores Peyton, then he was screwed either way!
  3. Leave a link to yours! Completed my draft on Thursday. I'm going to lay out the entire rosters of the two teams in addition to the trade. I'm pretty weak at RB so that's the main reason this trade was offered to me. League starts 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1Flex (RB/WR/TE), 1PK, 1DST. Trade offer - I get: RB DeAngelo Williams & WR Alshon Jeffery I give: RB Isaac Redman & WR DeSean Jackson My whole team: QB: Peyton Manning & Philip Rivers RB: Adrian Peterson, Lamar Miller, Isaac Redman, Michael Bush, Toby Gerhart (yeah, weak beyond top two - basically gave up on it after waiting too long for RB3) WR: Demaryius Thomas, Pierre Garcon, DeSean Jackson, Stevie Johnson, Vincent Brown TE: Vernon Davis, Brandon Myers PK: Randy Bullock, Josh Brown DST: Denver, San Diego His whole team: QB: Matt Ryan & Josh Freeman RB: Arian Foster, Alfred Morris, DeAngelo Williams, Ben Tate, Le'Veon Bell, James Starks WR: Wes Welker, Kenny Britt, Alshon Jeffery, Mohammad Sanu TE: Jared Cook, Brent Celek PK: Phil Dawson DST: Pittsburgh, Tennessee Basically he upgrades his WR3 and security for his RB3 should Le'Veon Bell not come back as expected. I get an actual honest to goodness usable RB3 that can seemingly be counted on to start while downgrading my WR3 slightly from Jackson to Johnson. Alshon is obviously a significant downgrade at the WR4 position from what I have now. I currently will probably be starting three WRs each week and praying to God that nothing happens to my top two backs. I'd probably still start three WRs with the trade but have some security. I really like Jackson this year and think he will do quite well, so I hate to lose him, but I'll be honest, this trade offer struck me as him actually giving up the better part of the deal. What do you all think? Accept as offered? Reject? Counter? I considered the idea of floating Stevie Johnson instead. I'm fairly certain he wouldn't accept Vincent Brown. He also offered Le'Veon Bell & Alshon Jeffery for Lamar Miller & DeSean Jackson which I have yet to refuse flatly but certainly will. That gives me no help at all.
  4. In a 17 week league so this week is our opening playoff round. My team was #1 through Week 11 but have been a free fall of late. RB is a big weakness but I consider all three of these at least considerable starting options this week. League has distance scoring (longer TD = more points), 100 yard bonuses, and double TD value for scoring out of position (i.e. RB catching a TD is worth double) M. Leshoure (at ARI) S. Jackson (vs. MIN) D. Sproles (vs. TBB) Right now I'm leaning Leshoure and Sproles. Leshoure because Arizona is unbelievably terrible and Sproles because while Tampa is good against the run, they're terrible against the pass and that's where Darren comes in. Sproles has scored in 5 of his 10 games this year, and went over 100 yards receiving in one of the ones he didn't, so he's been in double points 6 of 10 games. If you believe in these sort of things, he hasn't scored at home since the season opener, a span of three home games (KC, San Diego, San Fran). My real point of fear is in leaving SJAX on the bench. Of the three, he's the only one with a guaranteed workload, but I also consider his matchup the least favorable of the three. I believe there is also greater potential of the running game becoming a non-factor in that game should Peterson run wild on the Rams (he will) and stake them to a large lead. Please advise! Leave your link and I'll hit you up too!

    Playoff Flex Help

PPR or not I can't imagine going with Rodgers over Brown. I know Brown had a rough week last week - put it out of your mind. The Bucs sold out against the run. He'll bounce back. Mine: http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=414799

    WR and TE Help

The TE to me is an easy choice - I'd go with Olsen. Bennett is picking back up from where he was earlier in the year, but I feel like Olsen is a greater part of the Panthers' game plan week to week. The WR is really tough. I'd go with Johnson but that's honestly just a gut call. I don't know that there's a lot of difference in the two. Mine: http://www.fftodayforums.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=414799

    Lions D or Bears D?!?

I own Chicago in my main league and I'm benching them in favor of the Dolphins if that tells you anything. I want to believe that the Bears will come out with their best effort, but it is too hard for me to ignore what they've done the last month. Other than working over the Vikings at home in Week 12, they've done next to nothing against the Texans, Seahawks, 49ers, and Vikings again. Now the first three are pretty good teams and the Vikes have AD, but the Packers are darn good too. The Bears had a good game against them in Week 2, but it's my bet that they won't again. It's risky to bench your "stud" D, but they sure haven't played like they were one in the last bit. MEANWHILE, any team playing Arizona is a stud D these days. They can't protect their QB, and they've got a nice revolving door at that position just handing out points like candy. I'm looking forward to the fact that Chicago is playing them next week, and you will be too! I'd go Lions. Thanks for your help with mine!

    WR/RB dillema...recent studs...does it last?

On the WRs, you have to play Roddy White and Danario Alexander for certain. Roddy is neck and neck with Julio Jones for the #1 WR spot on that team in an offense that loves to pass (what're they going to do, run it with Turner? HA!). Danario has at least a TD or 100 yds+ in 4 of 5 games, with 5 TDs in that stretch. And he's going against the unbelievably bad Carolina D. So it comes down to Wallace and Garcon. I'd probably lean Wallace, even if RGIII plays. Wallace is a different man with Big Ben back in the lineup, and they're in a dome in Dallas. Garcon will have Haden on him outside in Cleveland, so who knows what the weather will be like. I don't think you can necessarily go wrong with either, but I'd go with Wallace. On the RB situation, I'd probably go Brown, only because you can't afford the risk that Bradshaw will be active and take his touches. If both were playing on Sunday I'd have said hold. Don't let the Tampa game scare you off of Brown, they did nothing but sell out against the run. They're awful through the air and they know it. It's like they don't even try to defend it. Fock You Thread...Playoff edition

A guest fock you for a buddy in my league. His wife dropped Aaron Hernandez when he was hurt (shallow benches in our league but she still lacks understanding of certain fantasy football elements - like not dropping Aaron Hernandez - EVER). The guy he played in the playoffs was the one who picked him up. And who just lost because of him.

    Thursday Night Curse

But of course just remember, Thursday night is just great when it has none of your players. Right Patriots/Jets?
  11. Patrick977

    Thursday Night Curse

I'm so conflicted. Brees tanking is a gift from heaven in a league where I need a win to make the playoffs. On the flip side, in the league where I am #1 but fighting to stay there, this was a death blow. Especially when combined with the fact I also played Roddy White and Gonzalez (though to be fair Gonzo had a decent game). So sneak into the playoffs in one where I will likely not make an impact while I watch my golden team that started 8-1 likely fall to 9-4.

    *** Week 3 Fock You Thread ***

    AMEN!
  13. It's definitely not too much, in all likelihood it is not enough. I'm not sure you can offer them enough to get Julio unless they are just wildly desperate. The hype train on Julio is very high right now, and I'm sure that owner used a high pick on Julio because of the hype and his incredibly high ceiling. I know if it were me you were trying to trade with that I'd tell you Jackson had to be included in the package since I'd be giving you a true stud at WR. You could try to float Martin or Hillis into it and see if he bites, but I doubt highly that he would. Honestly, I think I would just stay where you are. Thomas I think will be a strong WR2, even moreso given that you have the single best WR in the league as your WR1 and he'll pick up the slack for you some. Best of luck to you though, because if he goes for it, you'll have the best 2 WRs in the league in your starting lineup! Thanks for your help with mine earlier!

Picking 9th in a ten teamer - thoughts?

As others have mentioned, you suffered on your WRs for the decision to take Graham first. Still, WRs can often pop up out of nowhere to be had on the waiver wire, even in a PPR league. I think I'd wait a bit, see how things develop, and if the WRs proves to be an Achilles heel for you, you might have to consider moving an RB. All in all though, I see it as a solid B team. Keep an eagle eye on the wire for WR. Thanks for your reply on mine!
  15. I drafted Rashad Jennings on Saturday prior to MJD coming back. It was mostly a just in case draft pick but also one that I did as trade bait should the MJD owner want the must-have handcuff. Well that has led to me getting a constant barrage of trade offers from that owner that I've had to fend off, and so I look to you all for advice on whether it's one I should actually consider. 12 team league, we have bonus points for scoring out of position (say RB catches a TD pass), also distance bonuses on scores The Offer: I get: Maurice Jones-Drew, Isaiah Pead, Mario Manningham I give up: Darren Sproles, Miles Austin The Teams: Mine QB - Drew Brees, Joe Flacco RB - Steven Jackson, Darren Sproles, Rashad Jennings, Mikel Leshoure, Daniel Thomas WR - Roddy White, Steve Smith, Miles Austin, Anquan Boldin TE - Jermichael Finley, Tony Gonzalez PK - Mason Crosby, Justin Tucker DST - Chicago, San Diego His QB - Aaron Rodgers, Ryan Fitzpatrick RB - Maurice Jones-Drew, Fred Jackson, Michael Turner, Jacquizz Rodgers, Jonathan Dwyer, Isaiah Pead WR - Brandon Lloyd, DeSean Jackson, Randall Cobb, Mario Manningham TE - Jared Cook, Dustin Keller PK - Nate Kaeding, Greg Zuerlein DEF - San Francisco, Carolina I went into the draft looking to avoid MJD at all costs. This was primarily because of my concerns over the holdout. I just want to make sure that I'm not blinding myself to something good. If MJD performs like last year, it's obviously a great situation. Miles Austin is someone that I would possibly be able to insert into my lineup if he's healthy, but I drafted Roddy White and Steve Smith as every week starters. Pead would give me what appears to be Steven Jackson's primary backup.

    Victor Cruz

    Still down on Cruz?
  17. Patrick977

    Victor Cruz

Personally, I could not be more pleased by the way the playoffs are going in regards to Cruz. Yes, defenses have been paying more attention to him and consequently his stats have dipped. But more than anything they are being reminded that if they don't pay more attention to Nicks he will destroy them. It's the same reason that Antonio Brown broke out in Pittsburgh - defenses realized they could not allow Mike Wallace to beat them and chose their poison. Defenses will realize that allowing Cruz his is probably still the lesser of two evils.
  18. Patrick977

What we have learned from the playoffs

I agree, but the problem with that thinking is that when they shift from Nicks he reminds them why they can't focus on stopping Cruz instead of him. It's a pick your poison kind of situation, and most teams will continue to choose to allow Cruz to beat them.

    Winners, sign in here!

Winner, winner! Week 17 Starters: QB - Tony Romo RB - Ray Rice RB - Michael Bush WR - Victor Cruz WR - Julio Jones TE - Tony Gonzalez PK - David Akers (I figured it was going to be my day when he THREW for a TD!) DST - Atlanta Falcons Bench: QB - Matt Hasselbeck QB - Stephen McGee RB - Shonn Greene RB - Brandon Jacobs WR - Mike Wallace WR - Dez Bryant WR - Nate Washington TE - Heath Miller PK - Neil Rackers DST - Dallas Cowboys Only "mistakes" I made today was Romo over Hasselbeck and Gonzalez over Miller. Had the weekly high for the league!

    Has This Ever Happened...?

My Super Bowl is tomorrow, but I did advance despite the Romo goose egg. That can be attributed to the strong performances I got from Ray Rice, Victor Cruz, and Julio Jones. David Akers and Oakland's defense weren't too shabby either.

SB in week 17, who will probably sit?

Yes, I think it's that cut and dried. I'm not saying they'd be pulled immediately, but they wouldn't play more than a half, maybe not more than a quarter. What is there to gain by playing them? Momentum? I think that pales in comparison to the risk of an injured player in a meaningless game. The bottom line is that as a fantasy player in a Week 17 Super Bowl, you can't take the chance that they'll play the whole game. The risk of low points in only a quarter or half of action can be devastating to your team. To use my lineup, if Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez got me zero points it would not be impossible for me to win (considering I won this last week getting zero from Romo), but it would be a pretty big blow. I'd rather roll with Dez Bryant and Heath Miller knowing they'll be on the field unless injured. But that's only if Detroit wins.
  23. Patrick977

SB in week 17, who will probably sit?

You have that backwards. If the Lions WIN the 1PM game, then Atlanta has nothing to play for because they'll be locked into playing New Orleans. Detroit is 10-5, Atlanta 9-6. So a Detroit win makes them 11-5, making them uncatchable. A Detroit loss and Atlanta win puts them into playing the Giants/Cowboys winner. Personally, I'm hoping for a Detroit loss because I'm going to have to roll with three Atlanta players (Gonzo, Julio, and Atlanta DST). I can opt to go with Heath Miller and Dez Bryant if I have to, but I really, REALLY hope that Atlanta has something to play for.
